A great collection of 12 short stories with appearances by Miss Marple, Poirot, Tommy & Tuppence, and Mr. Parker Pyne. These were previously published before, now compiled in a beautiful hardback. I enjoyed some of the stories more than the others, but overall these are entertaining stories to read if you prefer something light and cozy.

LeahBergen I enjoyed this collection. 4mo

While her short stories don‘t have the same depth as her novels, this was a great collection. Witty and charming with several standouts that I‘d read again. In the future I think I‘ll recommend this to anyone looking for an intro to Agatha Christie‘s writing, as it has a combination of Hercule Poirot stories, Miss Marple stories, and standalone stories. #Booked2023 #ShortStoryCollection @alisiakae @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage

Cinfhen GORGEOUS edition!!! I want to read this collection just for the cover 🤩 1y
IndoorDame @Cinfhen seeing this edition being read by people around Christmas is half the reason I read it too, and completely the reason I decided I needed to buy not borrow this one 1y
Cinfhen Agree😍it‘s definitely one to own ❣️ 1y

TheAromaofBooks I haven't been able to resist these special editions as they have been released. The covers, the end papers, the back covers - they are just SO GORGEOUS!!! https://beautifulbooks.info/illustratedbibliographies/illustrators-and-authors/a... This website is doing a great job keeping track of which ones have been/are being issued. Unfortunately for my budget, they've been increasing the pace! 😂 @Cinfhen 1y
IndoorDame @TheAromaofBooks oooh, I didn‘t realize it was a whole series of rereleases. I want so many of them! Thank you!!! 1y
Cinfhen Oh no @TheAromaofBooks you might have unleashed a beast 😂 1y
TheAromaofBooks @IndoorDame @Cinfhen - Use caution; they're addictive 😂 They're just SO perfect; I'm in love with everything about them!!! Especially the gorgeous end papers 😍 1y
Cinfhen I looked 😅 @TheAromaofBooks THEY ARE STUNNING 😍 1y

When I was younger short story was one of my favorite genres. At some point I got disillusioned, reading mostly books with 1 or 2 great stories and the rest meh, and just feeling like it wasn‘t worth my time. But this year I had a really good year with short stories! I read a few meh anthologies, but the 3 pictured reminded me how much I loved the format. I‘m going to try the tagged book next, but I‘d love recs for short stories to read next year!

jlhammar I love short stories! Have you tried Alice Munro yet? You can‘t go wrong with any of her collections, but this is one of my favs 1y

IndoorDame @jlhammar very excited to try the Alice Munro! Thank you! The other one I may have to read an excerpt from and get a feel for it. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with Appalachian fiction. 1y
IndoorDame @jlhammar loving these titles! Almost all of them are new to me! 1y
Soubhiville @Eyelit is a big fan of short stories, maybe she‘ll have recommendations? The one stand out for me this year is a novel told in short stories, and I loved it: 1y
IndoorDame @Eyelit these look fabulous! I‘m so excited to add them titles to my list. Thank you!!! 1y
Kimzey Thanks for the recommendations! 1y
IndoorDame @Kimzey my pleasure! That‘s what I love about our platform! 1y

Terra and I are trying to stay warm and cozy tonight.

I enjoyed this collection of 12 short stories though I have read some of them before. I still prefer her full length novels but I‘ve never been a huge fan of short stories.

Just downloaded this on audio for holiday listening and jigsaw puzzling. Does anyone have other suggestions for holiday-themed mysteries, cozy or otherwise? Thanks!

Beatlefan129 I listened to this one recently, it was short and cute 1y
KathyWheeler Donna Andrews‘ Meg Langslow series has a Christmas themed book every year. I fact, I got into this series through How the Finch Stole Christmas, which is actually #22 in the series. 1y
Kimzey @Beatlefan129 Thanks for the recommendation! I‘ve added it to my list! 1y

KathyWheeler @Kimzey I love this series because it‘s light and has likable characters. I hope you like it. 1y
Jemgirl2014 Peter Swanson has a gothic Christmas mystery coming up in October. “The Christmas Guest”. It sounds really good! I already recommended it to my library. 😊 9mo

I am finding it incredibly difficult to rate this seasonal anthology. As is the case with many story collections several pieces simply didn't work for me (The Coming of Mr. Quin & The World's End), yet most of them did. The initial work in the collection-Three Blind Mice, & at almost 80 pages, the longest is my favorite not only from this collection but works by Christie that I have read. I was also introduced to Tommy & Tuppence in👇

vivastory The Clergyman's Daughter. I have added Partners in Crime to the top of my mystery TBR. The volume ends on a high note with Christmas Adventure, a seasonally appropriate yet somewhat bittersweet story as Poirot reflects on missing Hastings company even while being celebrated by the people around him.
On a side note: why aren't there more mystery novellas? I was recently wondering why they are exceedingly rare. When done right, as w/ 3 Blind Mice

vivastory or the longer stories in James' Sleep No More, they are unforgettable. 2y

I exercised admirable self control and did not buy the illustrated Dracula. Although it will more than likely be picked up at some point over the next couple of weeks. Bought two literary magazines: the new issue of Bookmarks & Oh Reader. I have not read Oh Reader, but it looks charming. Also picked up the newly edited collection of winter themed Christie stories. A bit of a cash grab, since I have her collected stories but I like the seasonal 👇

vivastory collections. Not pictured: an iced peppermint mocha, consumed, & King's Mr Mercedes as a surprise Xmas gift for my cousin. I bought my cousin Carrie a few months ago & he really enjoyed it, but he wasn't sure where to go next. I *almost* bought him Salem's Lot, but I think that Mr Mercedes shows King's range without having to read a brick like 11/22/63. 2y

I really liked some of these stories, but others failed to capture my attention. The first one was my favourite, I think. And I always love to see Miss Marple (Hercule Poirot, not so much). Great #audiobook narration!

Christmas present for my Grandma. Will hopefully get to read it to her in the future!
Also, yes, that is a cheeky present to myself in the background. I had a voucher to spend!!!

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Piranesi is WONDERFUL! Enjoy!! 3y
RaeLovesToRead @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Should I read Jonathon Norrell and Mr Strange first? I have that in paperback. 3y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled They‘re both great, but not related, so you can read either one first. I loved them both. Jonathan Strange is deliciously academic. The footnotes are delightful 😂 Her books are definitely original! 3y
RaeLovesToRead @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled thanks! I've heard great things about Piranesi and the book is so pretty, but Jonathon Strange is quite chunky and I like longer books usually... so I'm spoilt for choice!!@ 😁 3y
