Murder at an Irish Christmas
Murder at an Irish Christmas | Carlene O'Connor

The O'Sullivan clan of County Cork, Ireland, are back to investigate another case of murder--this time at Christmas! Garda Siobhn O'Sullivan's holiday plans hit a sour note when murder rearranges the Yuletide carols into unexpected eulogies... This December in Kilbane, if you're planning to warm up with a cuppa tea at Naomi's Bistro, you may have a bit of a wait--the entire O'Sullivan brood has gone off to West Cork to spend the holidays with brother James' fiance Elise's family, including her grandfather, the famous orchestral conductor Enda Elliot. Siobhn is so happy for James and Elise but also quietly disappointed that she must put her own wedding to fellow garda Macdara Flannery on hold. Mac will have to join them later, so he can spend part of the holidays with his mam. When the O'Sullivans learn everyone will choose a name from a hat to buy a music-related Christmas gift for someone else at the gathering, it seems like their greatest concern--until the cantankerous conductor is discovered crushed under a ninety-pound harp in a local concert hall. With the extended family--including Enda's much-younger new wife Leah, a virtuoso violinist--suspected in his murder, it's up to Siobhn to ensure the guilty party faces the music. But as a snowstorm strands both families in a lavish farmhouse on a cliff, Siobhn had better pick up the tempo--before the killer orchestrates another untimely demise...

I enjoyed this book-the snowy Irish setting, the MC and her brood, and the mystery, which I did not figure out. I usually don‘t, but with this one really I had no idea!

Coastal Ireland, an extravaganza Christmas concert, the murder of a famous orchestra conductor, a dysfunctional family of liars, Irish brown bread, an inquisitive, red haired Garda & her”brood” of brothers & sisters, her Garda fiancé— make for an entertaining holiday read.

Overall, I really liked this one. Christmas and murder in Ireland. Loved listening to this one on audio because of the accents. So that probably made me like this one a bit more. The story and mystery were good and interesting. Glad I read this one.

I enjoyed this - three minor issues: some editing errors; MC constantly reminding us she is not officially working the case so she has to go about things differently than if she were working the case; the mis-directions were a bit convoluted -
Overall though, a light and enjoyable read.

Almost forgot to post my #BookReport! Finished 3 books this week. 1 on audio. Getting poisoned made me so tired this week I just couldn‘t read a lot.

#CurrentlyReading - The Last Graduate, about 40% in, should finish this week. Listening to tagged on audio

#WeeklyForecast - Matzah Ball is due back at library next week and should start my #LMPBC book. Hopefully I can get more reading done this week before the holiday

kspenmoll Poisoned? What happened? I am so sorry hut glad you are recovering! 14mo
Cinfhen What??? Food poisoning??? Ugh 😩 Hope you‘re feeling better now!!!! 14mo
Laughterhp @kspenmoll @Cinfhen Yeah, basically food poisoning for me. It was gluten poisoning, which I have celiac so I can‘t process it. It left me really groggy and tired easily for 3 days. I‘m much better now. 14mo
Cinfhen Ohhhh, I‘m sorry…. It‘s terrible when you don‘t except it 😫😭 14mo

Fun! I haven‘t read any of the previous books, but it wasn‘t hard to to follow along and enjoy the story. This was a solid mystery with a, for me, surprise ending. Good peek into Irish Garda practices (for an American), and definitely gives all the Christmas feels! Best enjoyed with some biscuits and a hot beverage of your choice.
