Away with the Fairies
Away with the Fairies: A Phryne Fisher Mystery | Kerry Greenwood
20 posts | 30 read | 13 to read
Searching for the murderer of a famous author, sexy, sassy Phryne goes undercover-and is up to her ears in fashion gossip and office politics.... Phryne Fisher is asked to investigate the puzzling death of a famous author and illustrator of fairy stories. To do so, she takes a job within the womens magazine that employed the victim and finds herself enmeshed in her colleagues deceptions. But while Phryne is learning the ins and outs of magazine publishing first hand, her personal life is thrown into chaos. Impatient for her lover Lin Chungs imminent return from a silk-buying expedition to China, she instead receives an unusual summons from Lin Chungs family followed by a series of mysterious assaults and warnings.

I've been doing some easy reading of late and, this for me often means a bit of a cozy crime. Something that is not to grizzly with lovely characters that returning to is like visiting with old friends. Phryne Fisher is definitely one of those characters for me. How I love her for her intelligence, bravery, wit and strength.

This one didn't disappoint. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Another book down in my #PhryneMarathon I love this one, it has two storyline‘s, the 1st is the poisoning of Miss Lavender who illustrates the Hilda & the Fairies cartoon for Women‘s Choice magazine & on the side answers the Please Help letters, and the 2nd is the disappearance of her Chinese lover, Lin Chung, after he departs for China on a silk buying mission. Both are convoluted & both are tied up very neatly by the end. #phryneappreciationclub

Louise I really enjoyed the Netflix series. What do you think of the writing in the print version? (edited) 4y
Lizpixie @Louise I enjoy both. They have so many differences I prefer to think of them as two seperate but linked stories. For example, I love the Phryne+Jack❤️in the tv show, but I also adore the Phryne+Lin❤️in the books. There‘s no Ruth or Mrs Butler in the show, but likewise, there‘s no Aunt Prudence in the books. I know the books can get a bit cliche sometimes, but you have to remember it‘s really a cozy crime series & they all get like that🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
Louise Thanks for filling me in. I might try the books on audio sometime. Cozies make great bedtime listening! I think your idea of thinking of them as two different but related things makes good sense. 4y
Rissreads I have never read these books but I love the covers 💚 4y

Still at my reread of the Phryne Fisher series, though I can feel the glares from the piles of my #MountTBR👁👁 Phryne is called in by DI Jack Robinson to help out when Miss Lavender, the author/illustrator of “Hilda & the flower fairies” is found dead. Working undercover at the Women‘s magazine, she tracks down first a poison pen then a murderer. Added to her troubles is the news Lin Chung has gone missing in China. #phryneappreciationclub

I‘ve been finding it hard to read print books lately, due to eye strain, aching joints & neck pain from holding a heavy book not to mention just feeling like crap constantly. Thank god for audiobooks! Even on my worst days I can still listen to an awesome book, even in the shower(bought myself a waterproof Bluetooth speaker👍). I‘m really enjoying the Phryne Fisher books on audio, the bonus Kerry Greenwood interviews alone are worth the credit!

CarolynM Sorry to hear you're still struggling. Hope things improve soon 😘 In the meantime, Phrynne's good for some feel good distraction🙂 5y

Fairies, pirates, Phryne Grandmother Lin... 😊😊😊 More stress re-reading but I love Kerry Greenwood and it‘s been a while. A solid offering for the Phryne Fisher pantheon, extraordinarily well written, perfectly edited, well paced and immaculately researched. Not my favourite in the series but as always with Greenwood, highly, highly recommended.

I'm sorry to say l didn't like this novel at all.
I found the mystery quite uninteresting, extremelly stretched out (entire chapters were useless, really) and the adventure about Lin Chung unrealistic and preposterous. I didn't find that turning the roles male/female around made human objectification acceptable.

A complete miss for me. Lots of other Miss Fisher novels far better than this one out there.

#NovemberByTheNumbers #day11 This is the 11th book in the Phryne Fisher series by Kerry Greenwood. I was planning on getting all 11 books out on the floor but that means bending, sooo you get a pretty picture of the pretty bookcover! In this mystery, Miss Lavender, a well known author of children‘s stories is found murdered and Phryne goes undercover at Women‘s Choice Magazine to find the killer. New book please Kerry! #phryneappreciationclub

JazzFeathers I've just started this. Only a couple chapters in, but honestly at the moment is not doing anything for me 😑 6y

I couldn't figure out what i felt like reading, so I decided to go with a reliable favorite series that I'm slowly working my way through for the 2nd time. I love Phryne's hat and side eye on this cover 😁

I've been sick a fortnight now, and not reading much, so it seemed like an ideal time to reread something undemanding and spend time with beloved Phryne. Just gulped down half the book, but very much should be asleep...

rabbitprincess Sorry to hear you've been sick for so long! Hope you feel better soon. 7y
shanaqui @rabbitprincess Thanks! It's down to a cough now, but it's a wretched one -- I've pulled all the muscles in my ribcage. 7y

I just received my very first Fairyloot box and I LOVE it!!! 😍😍😍😍 Don't worry, the picture is spoiler-free. 😊 This box is easily as good as owlcrate and the products are high quality, but postage is so much cheaper within Europe. Plus, it only took two days as they seem to have a German distributor. ❤️❤️❤️ #fairyloot #bookbox #bookishgoodiesgalore #surprisebook

Kalalalatja Is it only bookish goodies or do you get a book also? 😊 7y
scripturient @Kalalalatja 😂😂 Oops, sorry! Yes, you get a book as well. 😊 7y
Kalalalatja Awesome! Thanks for the tip 👏 7y
