So… the cinnamon bread a huge hit
Blueberry I like mine better but it was good just a bit crispy 🤷🏻‍♀️

The boys don‘t like streusel 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ so I left it off.. my daughter and I LOVE IT. But we ate it before the picture 🤣🤣 and she had to go home🙃.

There is a page for quick breads and then under it is cinnamon blueberry etc..I‘ll post it next👩🏻‍🍳

Tamra @TheBookHippie I picked up a very very well loved (as in falling apart) first edition at an antique store. I wouldn‘t normally buy something like that, but it was the strangest sensation I‘ve ever had in a store. I couldn‘t leave something so obviously treasured homeless. Peculiar. 🙃🤪 2mo

It‘s Thanksgiving planning time - already! 😅 This year the kids say they‘re going to help. 🤔

Betty has been my Thanksgiving grandmother since 1988. (Edition 1987)

ravenlee My sister‘s married name is Crocker, and whenever people ask about her cooking she calls it “an old family recipe, from Great Aunt Betty.” 5mo

dabbe Where's the mustard??? I know that's not technically part of a Reuben, but still! And what is “almond“ cole slaw? Cole slaw with almonds thrown into it? 🤢😊🤣 1y

2 1/2 cups shredded cabbage
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup diced green pepper
1/4 cup diced cucumber
3 tablespoons minced onion
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper
1/2 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
2 or 3 tablespoons light cream
1/2 cup toasted slivered almonds

Combine all ingredients except mayonnaise, cream and almonds. Chill. Just before serving, blend mayonnaise and cream. Toss dressing and almonds with salad.

mcctrish I had NO IDEA there were his and hers versions of these sandwiches! My mind is blown! I love a Rueben and I didn‘t not know about the sauerkraut in mayo, or the turkey truthfully but maybe I‘m just so busy shoving it in my mouth I don‘t pay attention! 🤣🤣 I think almond cole slaw sounds quite good 1y

Let the Turkey Day prep begin! It wouldn‘t be complete without the jello marshmallow “salad.” 😋

I‘m quite certain jello is indigenous to the Americas - isn‘t there always a bowl of it on display in depictions of the first Thanksgiving meal?

ljuliel I just looked it up and flavored Jell-O was first “invented” in 1881 , by a man named Pearle and his wife May. It‘s been around a long time. 4y

marleed We have a 20-yr video when neighbors from Sweden came to live in Kansas for a year while the dad was an allied officer. We fed the girls, 8 and 9 yo‘s, jello for their first time. They recently returned when their dad was honored in a hall of fame. My son has captured all that video and was able to give it to them. It was priceless as they had no memory of that singular experience. 4y

melrailey Oh and yes I‘m cooking desserts. I‘ve actually just finished but my cheesecake has to sit in the oven for two hours so I‘m taking a bubble bath, drinking a glass of wine and reading (or checking Litsy). 6y

I always have to make at least one recipe from my mom's old cookbooks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This pumpkin bread is one of my favorites. I couldn't find the exact cookbook in the database but close enough. I have so many cookbooks that have been handed down from Grandma to Mom to me. They are ragged and well worn from many years of use. 😊💜

GlitteryOtters @suzze this is the copy my mom got at *her* wedding shower (with her first husband) in 1973. She cooked a little at that time, but not too much and all in a more Californian/Mediterranean style and she was marrying a guy from Oklahoma. His parents realized she needed good instruction on how to make the type of food he loved, so they gave her the newest version of their family favorite cookbook (and that's how we became a Betty Crocker family) 7y

GlitteryOtters @SusanInTiburon we came into Betty Crocker not by intent, but by accident (my mom's first husband grew up eating food from an earlier version of this cookbook, so his parents gifted it to her so she'd know how to make all his favorite dishes, as she grew up cooking a more California/Mediterranean style, and cooking by instinct, without recipes as that's how her mom cooked). After the divorce she felt this was still useful, so she kept it & used it 7y

GlitteryOtters @SharonGoforth I have both this and the edition available in 1999 (since that has some new and different recipes, and I got it on remainder when I worked at a bookstore, so it was a cheap edition). The cookies and sweetbreads from this edition are basically my childhood desserts, so I still use it a lot (if I switched banana bread or cranberry bread or zucchini bread recipes, I think my husband would revolt!). I just veganize the recipes. 7y

GlitteryOtters @Mcoun yes it is--plus it has so many of the cookies and sweetbreads we regularly had as desserts when I was a kid. That snickerdoodle recipe was my favorite! 😋😋 7y

Suzze @GlitteryOtters I have three copies, my mom's from the 50's, my wedding copy from the 70's and and the update from the 90's. It's funny how recipes my mom made from it are now healthier in the 90's copy, even though they keep the integrity of the 50's recipe. 7y

GlitteryOtters @bookishkris this is my mom's old edition & it is full of recipes she clipped out from magazines, my step grandma's family bread recipe that has been in use in her family or ours for well over a century, a few handwritten recipes from some of my mom's elderly customers over the years. It is very treasured. 7y

GlitteryOtters @Suzze I have the 90s edition too and you are right, they did a really good job at updating it (and the reference sections with cooktimes for different veggies is my go-to when I am cooking...I swear, I can never remember how long it takes to cook each vegetable, even the ones I cook constantly. I always have to look it up). 7y

This is my mom's Betty Crocker cook book from 1961❤️. I am at her house at the end of my big trip home for a visit. Just finished packing ( had to find room for all the books...yikes). Now my feet are up & I'm perusing betty😄
