Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions of her multi-million selling board books. These whimsical and hilarious books, featuring nontraditional texts and her famous animal characters, have been printed on thick board pages, and are sure to educate and entertain children of all ages.

My friend's son had his first child, a daughter, last October and I have yet to send a gift. I have decided that I want to start, or severely populate, her first library. I know there will be some Boynton books definitely included, but what other books would you all recommend for a first library? What are the classics? What are the hot new books? Any an all recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 😊

Clwojick Oooo. 1y
Clwojick Okay, thee book tagging feature isn‘t working… but pretty much any book by Robert Munsch, especially Love You Forever, 50 Below Zero, and The Paperbag Princess. Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. The Wonkey Donkey Books. The Bear series by Karma Wilson. And The Littlw Blue Truck books by Jill McElmurry 1y

DrexEdit @Clwojick Thanks! I will check these out! ❤️ 1y
monalyisha Love Boynton. Tagging my newest favorite. 1y
Clwojick Not sure how many of these come in board book form, but nevertheless I‘d save them on your list of idea for future years to come. I have an ongoing list for my best friends 3 little ones. They get a couple books added to all their gifts. 💖 1y
DrexEdit @monalyisha thanks very much! 👍 1y
Clwojick And maybe it‘s random to have a favourite Halloween childrens book, but this is it! ❤️ 1y
DrexEdit @Clwojick that's a great idea! I feel a new Goodreads list coming on! 😉 1y
Clwojick I spent an afternoon at the library, reading through all the childrens section to make a list of favourites for Greyson. Now I‘m using the same list for his little twin siblings. ❤️ 1y
DrexEdit @Clwojick 🎃🎃🎃❤️ 1y
monalyisha You‘re welcome! It has no Litsy info but you can see more (check out the illustrations, etc) on Amazon. 1y
BethM Jabberwocky was and is my son‘s favorite. Anything Pooh, any of the 5 minute stories books. 1y
BethM Loves the colors and pictures in this 1y
BethM I like the Jane Yolen how do/why do dinosaurs series 1y
Aimeesue No suggestions, because that was a loooong time ago, and I can't remember any faves besides the Boyntons and, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Pooh, but I can still recite Hey! Wake up! and Hippos Go Berzerk by heart. And every once in a while, to my children's horror, I do. ❤️ 1y
Clare-Dragonfly Boynton books are always a great choice! I also recommend Margaret Wise Brown—Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny—as well as 1y
DrexEdit @BethM Thanks very much! I like all these suggestions. 😊 1y
DrexEdit @Aimeesue All classics! Thanks for these ideas. Too bad Litsy does not have video capability. I would certainly love to see you recite Boynton! 😊 👍 1y
DrexEdit @Clare-Dragonfly Oooooo! Yes! Love these suggestions! Perfect! 😊 ❤ 1y

monalyisha @Charityann It was very considerate of the trees to arrange themselves in such a way that I was able to get one of each color in the shot. Thanks, trees! 😅💛🧡❤️ (edited) 3y

I bought books.

My niece (and her parents!) are coming to stay next week, hopefully. Haven‘t seen them since Christmas, when she was just 2 months... So books were in order.

Lcsmcat My kids loved Moo, Baa, La La La! (And all Boynton books.) (edited) 4y

I‘m in Canada for a month, visiting my parents, and today at a yard sale I hit the jackpot! 15 books for $3.75! I really wish China had this kind of second hand culture, but I‘m happy I can at least stock up on books for my kids every summer for cheap!

A few favorite animal books for day 28 of #31bookpics! I‘m not an animal person myself... but my 5yo has always loved animal stories. And James Herriot is great even if you‘re not an animal person! 🙂

ravenlee My daughter and I loved Little Owl‘s Night! I was a little disappointed in the sequel though (but seriously, I had expectations for a board book sequel! 😂😂😂). 5y
CarolynM Moo Baa La La La was such a favourite in our house when the children were small that it's my go to gift for new babies. I can still recite it and it still makes me smile.💖💖 5y
howjessicareads @ravenlee Haha! We own 2-3 of the spin offs too. 🙂 So cute! (Although not as good as the original.) 😝 5y
howjessicareads @CarolynM I memorized most Boyntons when my brother (12 years younger than I) was a toddler. Was handy when my own kids were small, I could read with my eyes shut!! 🙂 5y

Can you tell which ones are for me?

If you said “all of them,” you got it! 😄 Ian is too young to have an opinion about books. Well, OK, he has one book opinion, and it‘s the same as his opinion about everything else: “It goes in my mouth.”

Caught my grandbaby reading by himself and it made me so happy. 😍💚📚 (of course he moved just as I took the picture and you can't actually see there's a book in his hands 😑)

AJones He is adorable! My boys also enjoyed Sandra Boynton‘s books. 💙📚 6y
bookandbedandtea @AJones I sure think so! 😉 Yes, her books are perfect for this age. I read them with my kids and now with him too. 😊 6y

LeahBergen Who is that little purple guy? 6y
saresmoore @LeahBergen He‘s the representation of fear from the Disney movie, Inside Out. My favorite character, by far. 6y
LeahBergen Oh! Like a little “anxiety man”! He should be my mascot. 😆 6y

saresmoore @LeahBergen Exactly! Pictured here with his comfort cow. 🙃 6y
Karkar I am sadness all the way from Inside Out. I loved that movie 🎥 6y
saresmoore @Karkar Yes! My favorite scene is when Joy is dragging the limp and lifeless Sadness around. We all have those days. 6y

BiblioLitten @saresmoore I remember that and love it! 😖😀💜💞 6y
Moray_Reads I love Inside Out. One of Pixar's best ❤️ 6y
saresmoore @Moray_Reads Agreed. I love how they cross genre lines from Bildungsroman to drama to horror/thriller. It‘s a bit like Toy Story 3, that way, but I think Inside Out is much more clever and enjoyable. 6y

#jubilantjuly Day 10: Onomatopoeia. "The cow goes moo. The sheep goes baa..." #moobaalalala is one of my favorite books to read to my nephew. Sandra Boynton is also my go to children's book author/illustrator when it comes to books for the littlest ones.

I have to share this from Man Cub's field trip yesterday .... LAMB ONLY ONE WEEK OLD! There were 3 of them and so adorable.
I didn't get much reading done yesterday since I spent the day with 29 3rd graders. Didn't get much done today either because I was so tired from yesterday.

We love some Boynton books! This one is full of animal sounds plus an opportunity to correct the narrator and an invitation to make your own sounds 😀 Above all: these singing pigs are the first thing babe saw in a book that caused a smile 😍 #picturebook #childrensbooks #babyreads

bookishkai Sheep says baa, three little pigs say la la la. 8y
Megabooks Barnyard Dance is my favorite! I still remember 11 years later, "Stomp your feet. Clap you hands. Everybody ready for a barnyard dance!" 8y
Ericmanciniwriter @Ebooksandcooks I know! Having kids has made me a kids book snob, there are so many bad ones. But all of the boynton books are fun to read 8y
AmyWrites My sons love anything by Boynton! And they are so much fun to read. 😍 8y
ValerieAndBooks This sure brings back memories-- my kids loved Sandra Boynton especially Barnyard Dance! Nice to see her still enduring. My oldest is 20 already. 8y
