#Pemberlittens Listening to Audio because of life and it's Juliet Stevenson. Then I read footnotes in the Annotated.

"In all her novels but her first, Northanger Abbey, there is a young man with great surface charm and attractiveness who tempts the heroine to a degree. The previous four—Willoughby, Wickham, Henry Crawford, and Frank Churchill—all prove untrustworthy in some respect, though in varying degrees."

The seashore is such a important part of Persuasion. And since I can't make it to Lyme here's a favorite beach I have been to - South Padre Island, Tex.

#Pemberlittens name a beach you love and tag me with a photo. 🏖

I've been saving my Persuasion socks to wear this month. And since I'm wearing them with my gardening boots here's a gardening quote:
"I have been several times in the garden with Mackenzie, trying to understand, and make him understand, which of Elizabeth‘s plants are for Lady Russell." ?????‍?

#listenwhileyouwork @sprainedbrain
*Annotated Note in Comments

Crinoline_Laphroaig *"Mackenzie would be the gardener. Gardeners, whose work required great skill and knowledge, especially on properties with extensive landscaping, were upper servants; this is why Anne refers to him by his last name, a mark of respect. First names were used for lower servants." 3y

A re-read, and still I was glued to the page and couldn't wait for THAT letter. You know the one. Now I'm in the mood for the film adaptations.

PickwickPlockPlock @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It might have become my favourite too, over the years. I think now I have to read Pride and Prejudice again to make sure! 3y

Okay, Litsy. I need your advice. I started reading this version of Persuasion because I wanted to reread the book and thought the annotated version might be fun. There is literally a full page of notes opposite each page of text. Does a person really need that much trivia in their brain? Should I ditch this for one of my other editions or tough it out?

Redwritinghood Maybe just skim the notes? 4y
REPollock I would not want that much extra information unless I was writing a report on the book. 😐 4y
DGRachel @Redwritinghood I‘m not sure I know how to skim. 😂😂 4y
See All 8 Comments
DGRachel @REPollock Can you tell I didn‘t look at the book before I bought it? I was a bit overwhelmed when I started reading it last night. 4y
wanderinglynn I have the complete annotated Sherlock. I only look at the annotations on the items that I‘m curious to know more about. Otherwise, I just read the text and ignore the annotations because it is a lot of info. 4y
Tamra Oh yikes no - would ruin the flow state! 4y
DGRachel @Tamra Exactly! I was talking to someone today and said that it was a good thing I was so familiar with the story as I‘d have been completely lost with all the breaks for the notes! 4y

I had to leave work early because of a terrible migraine, but after ice and pain meds, I feel well enough to read. I had planned on the tagged book, but I‘m intimidated by the quantity of annotations - a full page of notes for each page of text! So, I think I‘m going to try a new-to-me romance author to see if that‘s more the speed my still aching head can handle. 🤞🏻

Jas16 Hope you feel better soon 4y
rachelsbrittain I LOVE Alyssa Cole and A Princess in Theory! Hope you enjoy it and start to feel better 4y
DGRachel @Jas16 Thank you. @rachelsbrittain I am definitely enjoying her writing style and I can‘t wait to see where this story goes. 😊 4y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @DGRachel I just recently started the emgality injections and tapered off topamax. I haven‘t had one in about 2 months... I hope you are feeling better! I‘m just upset I didn‘t get to read any today, my only day off 😫 4y
robinb So sorry....feel better soon. 😞 4y
DGRachel @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks The emgality did absolutely nothing for me. I hope it works for you. 🤞🏻I can‘t tolerate Topamax at all anymore. I‘m back on Lamictal but all it‘s doing is eliminating auras which are my early warning system. Today‘s migraine felt like it came out of nowhere. 😭 4y
DGRachel @robinb Thank you. 😊 4y
Geenie Feel better! 🙏💖👍 4y
Crazeedi @DGRachel migraines are debilitating, so sorry you have to deal with them. I hope you find a treatment that helps, hugs❤❤ 4y
Graciouswarriorprincess Feel better and sending hugs! 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @DGRachel oh no!! I‘m sorry! Mine was hurting when I got up, but usually I have an aura too... I have fioricet, but it doesn‘t do much.. 🤯 4y
DGRachel @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Fioricet has never done much for pain, but it used to help stop auras if I took it as soon as one started. I took one when I got home from work, so it did help me sleep for a couple of hours. 4y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @DGRachel I‘m worried about stopping the topamax.. I‘ve been on it for so long... I hope you feel better and get some rest ❤️ 4y

#FebruaryFeels #LongWait

It was a long wait for Anne Elliot & Captain Frederick Wentworth but the wait & his almost broken heart & pierced soul led to the letter to rule all letters. (Swoon 💜)

ralexist My favorite Austen! I recently did a "re-read" listening to it as an audiobook. I loved revisiting the story in a different format ? 4y
DebinHawaii @ralexist Yes! I listened to the Greta Scacchi narrated version a couple of years ago & loved it. I keep hoping Rosamund Pike does one. I love her Pride and Prejudice & Sense and Sensibility narrations. 4y

#QuotsyDec17 #letters 📃🖋Jane Austen's books are full of letters and quotes about them, but I think 'the' letter has to be Captain Wentworth's in Persuasion. If you have never read it, you must even for that letter alone. ❤️I love these two quotes about Anne's anticipation of reading it and on the after effects of reading such a letter. #janeaustenknowsall

Kalalalatja Love love love love Wentworth's letter #swoon ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
benchley1 Oh That letter...I swoon everytime...and hear it in Juliet Stevenson voice... 6y
SandyW Now I'm going to have to read Persuasion again. What a hardship. 😜 6y

DGRachel Yes! I ❤️ The Letter. @Kalalalatja #swoon is right! 6y
batsy Oh yes! Now you're making me want to read Persuasion again! 😍 6y
DebinHawaii @Kalalalatja @benchley1 @SandyW @DGRachel @batsy Maybe a Persuasion buddy read in 2018? 😆📚❤️ 6y
benchley1 @DebinHawaii I would be in. I'm always rereading or listening to Jane Austen, Harry Potter, or Dame Agatha 6y
SandyW @DebinHawaii @Kalalalatja @benchley1 @DGRachel @batsy I could be up for that. It would be my first. 6y
Kalalalatja I'm in! I have read it so many times, so for once I might be able to pace myself a bit with a buddy read, instead of reading the book all at once 😄 6y
DGRachel @DebinHawaii @Kalalalatja @benchley1 @SandyW @batsy I‘m always up for a reread, but I can‘t promise not to read ahead. I tend to get swept away by the story. 😊 6y
batsy I'm cool for this, as well! Always game for an Austen reread 😊 but yes, I have difficulty with pacing as well 😆 6y
benchley1 Maybe with a buddy read we'll have to slow down the reading pace and saviour...I read it like I eat popcorn 6y
DebinHawaii @Kalalalatja @benchley1 @SandyW @DGRachel @batsy I'm happy you guys are interested! I've not organized a buddy read before but would be happy to try. Would love opinions on how/how much you'd like to read there are 24 chapters so we could do 4,5,or 6 a week, or one a day...Also timing...January too soon? Feb for romance? Later on? We probably can't make it perfect for everyone but would love to make it fit as much as possible. 6y
Kalalalatja I haven't participated in a buddy read before, so I'm completely inexperienced as well 😄 but I can say, I don't have any preferences for when to read it, but maybe Feb, if there are some who need to buy/borrow it first? 😊 6y
DGRachel I think the last one I did for Persuasion was a chapter a day. February sounds great! 6y
SandyW Newb here. I'm very flexible and could probably make any time work, but January is my quietest month. I think 6 chapters a week over 4 weeks sounds reasonable. (I am happy to defer to group consensus, but 1 ch/wk would be too slow for me.) 6y
benchley1 I have no time preferences. I've got the book, ebook, and audio... 6y
batsy I already have my copy, so can start anytime as well. I'm open to any month 👍 I like @DGRachel's idea of a chapter a day, but if that's too much then 24 chapters over a month sounds good 😊 @Kalalalatja @benchley1 @SandyW 6y
SandyW I can do a chapter a day... I could even commit to something like the entire book over a weekend, but that might be too much for everyone else... 6y
