10 posts | 15 read
Jessica would stop at nothing... Gorgeous but ruthless, Jessica Wakefield is determined to be the chosen queen of Sweet Valley High's fall dance this year. Once she's crowned queen, surely Bruce Patman, the most popular boy in school, will finally notice her. And the only person standing in her way is Enid Rollins, Elizabeth's best friend. But when Jessica uncovers a secret about Enid's past, she knows the crown is within reach. She doesn't care that revealing the secret could cost Enid both her reputation and boy she loves. Can Elizabeth save Enid from Jessica's vicious gossip? Can she stop her scheming twin in time? From bestselling author Francine Pascal.

4✨ Enid‘s secret is revealed and Liz is to blame? Plus rumors are buzzing at Sweet Valley High. A fun read and I‘ll be reading another next month.

They (whoever that is) say that secrets are no fun… but after reading the second book in the Sweet Valley High series, I‘m not so sure that‘s true! The book is called Secrets, and our conversation about it on this week‘s episode of my podcast continues my unofficial tradition of marking a new year with the Wakefields. On Episode 150, author Lacie Waldon joins me to discuss what we love to hate and hate to love about SVH. Link to listen in my bio!

#GetMovin Day 19: The Wakefield twins remain #AmericasSweetheart(s) for me - with their blonde hair, blue eyes, and their golden tan in eternally sunny Ca-li-for-nee-yah. I was craycray over these books when I was in highschool.

I couldn't think of any #cookie 🍪 quotes, but then I remembered this scene from Secrets. Project C.C. Cookie? 🙄#QuotsyDec17

Susannah Nothing like a SVH quote! 😂 6y
whatsthEStorey I just had a flashback! I could smell the Love's Baby Soft & taste the root beer Lip Smacker when I read this! 😂 6y

The best thing about this book was that the controlling boyfriend was portrayed as being unreasonable. No "oh, he just loves you too much" crap. It's mentioned that his parents were divorced because his mother had an affair (explaining his distrust) but thankfully that wasn't used as an excuse to justify his behaviour. The message that excessive jealousy & lack of trust aren't part of a healthy relationship is an important one. #NostalgiaNovember

TK-421 And fortunately, Enid later realizes that she's better off without him because "a relationship that wasn't built on honesty and trust wasn't any kind of relationship at all." 6y
Sace I'm starting to think that SVH was a little more forward thinking in their stories/character reactions. A lot of the Wildfire books I've been reading have a real anti counter-culture vibe to them. So it's a lot of girls are taken with kind of jerky guys and the future is pretty much marriage and family. 6y
TK-421 @RestlessFickleBookSlut I have some Wildfire books still tbr. From what you said, SVH might've been a bit better: Mrs Wakefield has a career & Liz is a writer with goals beyond dating boys & being popular. But Jessica? 😡 I'd rant about how much I loathe her & why she's a terrible role model, but I need WAY more than 451 chars! In both books, Liz teaches her a lesson, but the punishments don't come close to matching the scale of Jessica's schemes 6y

Sace I've still got SVH on my TBR. The Wildfire books seem to try to have modern aspects. Ellynne's mom was in law school and there's been a couple of mentions of women's lib, but overall it's felt like "let's make sure this new gen doesn't get caught up in that hippie culture." 6y
TK-421 @restlessficklebookslut Ahh, gotcha. No anti-hippie vibes in SVH so far... (edited) 6y
TricksyTails SVH... the good ol' days! 😆 6y

@RestlessFickleBookSlut look what I found inside SVH book two! I forgot all about the weird library system I had for keeping track of the books my friends borrowed! I was wondering why there was a piece of tape on the inside front cover of book one 😂 #NostalgiaNovember

Rachbb3 So cool! I loved SVH! 6y

If you're on Instagram and enjoy laughing and (very) dirty humor, you should definitely follow paperbackparadise. Old paperbacks made new again and it cracks me up every time I come across one in my feed.

Wish me luck! #readjanuary

jpmcwisemorgan GoTs has been on my TBR forever! Some day... 7y
Blair_Reads I'm up to 48 on my currently reading GR shelf so that's one of my goals too! 👍🏻 7y
JenlovesJT47 @jpmcwisemorgan I know what you mean! I really love the show. But when I'm trying to keep up with my Goodreads challenge, I'm not always motivated to read these huge books. Fingers crossed, I'm already 30% in on the GOT audiobook. 😬 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Blair_Reads ok you made me feel a lot better, I thought I was the only one who did that! 😂 Problem is I get a lot of things from the digital library and don't always have time to finish them before they expire. Here's to better reading habits! 🍾 7y
jpmcwisemorgan I put some big books on the list for some of my reading challenges just so I would get through them. 7y

Does anyone ever go back and read books they grew up on? I'm thinking I might bust out the kindle and download some Sweet Valley HIgh and Judy Blume books ! #memories #sweetvalleyhigh #superfudge

Megabooks I've read some Blume and Baby-Sitters Club! 8y
Trina_L @Ebooksandcooks , yes! I've forgotten about Baby-sitters Club :) good stuff ! 8y
Dineen73 I loved SVH!!! Actually, I re-read The Little House series back when my daughter was reading it, and I confess to reading (and giggling) through the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books, and still loving them. 8y
Trina_L @Dineen73 SVH was the S**t! Wasn't it fun to go back ?! Oh sweet nostalgia ;) 8y
