So many great books this year that ive read! Where have these been all my life. I mean if this is how my year is going in books i cant wait to see whats next 💗 this book was AMAZING. Its just that simple. I loved the story of the Nightingale and it shows just how powerful a woman can truley be. She overcame so many obstacles and showed such bravery! Just beautiful. Must read thats for sure 💗

Lost. It makes it sound as if I misplaced my loved ones, perhaps I left them where they don‘t belong and then turned away, too confused to retrace my steps. They are not lost. Nor are they in a better place. They are gone. As I approach the end of my years, I know that grief, like regret, settles into our DNA and remains forever a part of us.

Wendyloohoo77 Best first page of a book I‘ve read in a long ass time. ♥️ 5d

I love Historical Fiction and Nightingale is at its best. ! Besides being very informative, the relationships are strained but they tell their story beautifully. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a well written story that will touch you deeply.

This book ended up being better than I expected. With that being said, I do not think it is as wonderful as everyone says. I am giving it a pick, but I struggle with that. I basically feel like this is a romance novel set against the backdrop of WWII. It did not feel realistic to me. For a beautiful WWII book, try All The Light We Cannot See. For WWII romance, try All But My Life.

Well now I know why this book has so much love on Litsy. I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I had forgotten how much I enjoy historical fiction.
It was very interesting to hear how women helped shape world war II, we tend to forget the important role they played and how brave they were.

There are no proper words to describe how beautifully written this story was. Isabelle and Vianne are two French sister living through the German occupation during WWII. Their story shows the strength of women during WWII, and how different woman worked to protect not only their families but what was right. Kristin Hannah shares a story of a mothers love. But also the love that sisters have.

Fascinating how fast I am bored and annoyed by a book that I was sure to love as much and inhale as fast as “Magic Hour” (?? „Das Mädchen mit dem Schmetterling“).

I was bored by everything. It began with the Word-War-II-setting, continued with the father … Don‘t know. Not at all for me. All felt wooden. The figures, the plot. From the first chapter that‘s set in the past everything felt so simplistic.

So it‘s better to move on.

I‘m sure it‘s my own fault that I don‘t like it at such an early stage like 50 pages but I ignored (or probably forgot) that it seems to be a war story. Those are not particularly interesting to me anymore. ??‍♀️ Maybe I could like this one if there weren‘t the unlikeable father and Isabelle‘s unlikely meeting with Gaët. ?

The only one I‘m interested in is Vianne. And, of course, the old lady from the beginning.

Yes, this is a beautiful cover. But … I‘m 50 pages in and not hooked or interested in any extent. 😟 I‘m almost inclined to admit that at the moment I‘m finding it boooo…oring. Which is sad because I looked forward to it so heavily and already now feel disappointed. I‘ll give it another 50 pages before I decide to bail on it or not.

As it came to: “What to read next❓?” I quickly decided to grab that one from my online library. First, because it was available and second because after my non-fiction book I strongly felt I need something with kind of a „Like‼️?“-guarantee. The first book by her I read was “Magic Hour” (?? „Das Mädchen mit dem Schmetterling“) and I loved it very much. It touched me – so I‘m really excited to start this one.

IvoryLunatic I love this book! I wonder if I can get some of these books for my kindle in German. The longer I live in the US, the worse my German gets. I keep thinking about getting more physical copies in German but didn't even think about getting them for my kindle. That would be so much easier. 1mo
Buechersuechtling @IvoryLunatic Then: Go for it. 👍🏼 Even though I as a native speaker of course can‘t judge if the language used and/or the translation is easy or complicated. But in general, I think she is a good author to read in German. I once tried a T.C. Boyle novel in English and gave up so frustratedly. But I think her style – in contrary – is quite nice to follow. 1mo
IvoryLunatic @Buechersuechtling I'm actually a native speaker too but between autocorrect (for English) and my worsening grammar in German, it's less embarrassing to be typing in English until it gets easier again. 😖 It's embarrassing but hopefully it'll be easier again soon. 1mo
Buechersuechtling @IvoryLunatic Ja, ich erkenne das Problem. Deutsche Grammatik ist nun wirklich nicht die einfachste. (Sorry, could not resist. 😈) 1mo
IvoryLunatic @Buechersuechtling In Deutschland war ich sehr gut in der Schule aber nach 12 Jahren in den USA ist es viel schwerer. Hoffentlich wird es in den naechsten paar Monaten aber leichter wieder. :) 1mo

Oh dear god, I‘m still sniffling. A few lengths at the beginning and a bit short at the end, but The Nightingale is definitely a must-read. It tells the story of two very different sisters trying to survive WWII in France with courage and heart. I‘m drawn to WWII stories and this book may be one of the best about that period.
