Women in Love
Women in Love | DH Lawrence
14 posts | 25 read | 18 to read
"Women in Love is a work of genius. It contains characters which are masterpieces of pure creation." -- New Statesman WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY HOWARD JACOBSON Women in Love begins one blossoming spring day in England and ends with a terrible catastrophe in the snow of the Alps. Ursula and Gudrun are very different sisters who become entangled with two friends, Rupert and Gerald, who live in their hometown. The bonds between the couples quickly become intense and passionate but whether this passion is creative or destructive is unclear. In this astonishing novel, widely considered to be D.H. Lawrence's best work, he explores what it means to be human in an age of conflict and confusion.

Pickpick

Stupendo ogni oltre dire. Di Lawrence lessi qualche anno fa L‘Amanti di Lady C. ma non mi entusiasmò più di tanto. Questo romanzo secondo me è infinitamente superiore

I actually finished this in bed Monday promptly fell into a coma and have only just recovered enough to review it.

Man was this book boring and tedious I didn‘t like any of the characters and am glad to leave them firmly in the past.

I gave it a low 3 stars purely because I have read worse books.

Reading this book is a greater tedium 🤣🤣🤣

And boy does it make me sleepy.

Only 7% left to go...

AshleyHoss820 Almost there!! 😊 2y
Daisey So close to finishing!! 2y
JenP Yes! I hated it but you can do it! (edited) 2y

Have made it to 63% and so far it is as @Leniverse put it a load of bollocks 🤣🤣

AshleyHoss820 Aahaahah!! What!? 2y
Leniverse 🤣 I'm at roughly 50% so I still have that gem coming up. Sometimes there's a hint of something interesting, that whole post-war disillusionment and searching for something new, but then after two paragraphs or so it dives off the deep end again. 😏 These characters all have the mood swings of 14 year olds and they sulk like they're 5! 2y
BookwormM @Leniverse I think they all need to grow up they are so annoying 2y

Chili I‘m only 50 pages in and I‘m already sick of these people. Ugh! 2y
BookwormM @Chili they don‘t get any better 😡 at least I am on the home stretch now 2y
Daisey @BookwormM @Leniverse I‘m so glad I forced myself to finish this book this month with all of you so I can mark it off the list and laugh at comments like this instead of just bailing on my own! 2y
BookwormM @Daisey group reading is great especially with a book like this 2y
batsy @AshleyHoss820 That is my exact reaction 😂 2y
AshleyHoss820 @batsy 🤣🤣😂😂 2y
Readerann Ugh. This is going in my 1001-list ‘NO‘ pile. 🤔👎 2y

I‘m not sure about this one. 175 pages in and I find the characters awfully dull. #1001books

Anger and hurt probably being the predominant reactions all these people have to each other

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sorry to hear that☹️ 2y
JenP @Riveted_Reader_Melissa are you liking it? I@seem to be in the minority 2y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JenP I‘m not reading this one, my schedule was a bit to packed for it this January. 2y

BookwormM @JenP have you read The Rainbow? I am tossing up whether to read it first or not based on other books I have read I am not a Lawrence fan 2y
JenP @BookwormM no. I read lady Chatterly‘s lover which was just okay for me. Haven‘t read any others 2y
BookwormM @JenP The Rainbow is the first book in the trilogy so far do you think you need to know back story of anyone? 2y
JenP @BookwormM no 😂 I don‘t think I could stomach 2 books about these people 2y
BookwormM @JenP I feel like that but my OCD side hates reading series out of order 🤣🤣 2y
JenP @BookwormM I‘m about 50% I‘m and haven‘t felt like I was missing any back story 2y
BookwormM @JenP good to know 2y

I love DH Lawrence, although this is the only one I own. And this old Shakespeare is so special to me, I have the vinework from the inner cover tattooed around my ankle.

Re-reading a book I haven't looked at in YEARS, and I built myself these super essential shelves, because all these books were sitting on the floor in my closet-room until today.

Carissa-Green-Reads I read this one back in the day. I remember thinking a more accurate title would be "Men in Denial." 4y
