#catchingup on #fallintobooks #day14 - #classicsforclassicshaters

Can't say this will win over the haters, only that it was among the first classics I really enjoyed, certainly the first to encourage me to actively seek them out.

GatheringBooks i don't think i have read this one yet. 7y

I love this Christmas classic & read it every year. I've taken part in a live dramatic reading of it one year. I read the parts of Little Fan, Belle, a Cratchett daughter, and Fred's wife. #ClassicsForClassicsHaters #FallIntoBooks @RealLifeReading

LeahBergen I enjoyed this one. 👍🏻 7y
DGRachel I'm scared to try this one. I ❤️ Jane Eyre so much, I'm worried this will ruin it for me. #chicken 7y
JacintaMCarter @DGRachel I actually read this before I read Jane Eyre, not knowing that there was a connection. But, personally, I liked this one way more. 7y

Satire, parody, slapstick. There's a little bit of all kinds of comedy in this book. #classicsforclassicshaters #fallintobooks

Sace This is a great choice! I should go back and read this again. It's a fun one! 7y

#FallIntoBooks

I read Frankenstein years ago, more because l though that, being a fantasy lover, l should read such classic. I ended up truly enjoying it. I found it so modern and so relatable, more complex than we normally think.
#ClassicsForClassicsHaters

myers85 I absolutely loved this classic. I was surprised at its depth - my view had been obscured by the movie image of Frankenstein's monster. The original monster in the novel is much more interesting and complex. 7y
batsy Yes, great review. I thought I would hate it and it surprised me. 7y
JazzFeathers @myers85 That's true. Almist less of a monster, if you know what l mean 7y
JazzFeathers @batsy l was greatly surprised too 7y

#FallIntoReading - Day 14 - #ClassicsForClassicsHaters : #TheHandmaidsTale by #MargaretAtwood (sort of a classic - definitely iconic 🤷🏻‍♀️) 💕 This is a #dystopian novel set in a near-future, in a #totalitarian, Christian theonomy that has overthrown the US govt. The novel explores themes of #women in #subjugation and the means by which they gain individualism and independence. #TBR | Also pictured is my #ReadingLight for Day 14 of #AutumnReads

youneverarrived Great choice! 🙌I just finished watching the TV series not long ago it's one of the best things I've watched in a while. 7y
ephemeralwaltz Good choice. I loved the series too, @youneverarrived ! 7y

The book that made this classic hater into a classics lover was Jane Eyre by Charolette Bronte when I was 20! I also included Rebecca which is on my #tbr #classicsforclassicshaters #fallintobooks

rubyslippersreads Two of my favorites. 😊 7y
Gezemice Oooh two of my faves, too! @rubyslippersreads 7y

The Master and Margarita | Mikhail Bulgakov

The place to start in #classicsforclassicshaters is probably children's lit (Wind in the Willows/The Secret Garden/Peter Pan). If what you want is a gripping story, try East of Eden or The Master and Margarita. Looking for a mind trip? Go w/ A Clockwork Orange. An adventure? The Hobbit. Beautifully rendered stories w/ characters you can connect to? Pick up Elizabeth Bowen's works (on which I wrote my thesis). Have fun! #fallintobooks

RealLifeReading Great recommendations! That reminds me that I bought Heat of the Day at a library sale sometime ago and never read it! 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @RealLifeReading Oooh, that's one of her later books, set in WWII I think? I haven't read it yet but I've read 5 of hers and they were all AMAZING. She rides the line between Realism and Modernism so well--one of the few of her time not to pick a side. :D (edited) 7y
Theresa I've had Master & Margarita on my TBR for a while. I may need to bump it since it's a gripping story. 😆 I loved Clockwork Orange. Not sure what that says about me, tho. 😜 7y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Theresa Hahaha, I thought the same exact thing when I read it! You've got to try The Master and Margarita, it's so good (but also a little weird, in a good way). 7y
