The Witcher is an interesting character. The short stories here though didn't really get me excited as I was hoping it would. Seeing that it inspired a game and now a netflix series I was a bit surprised. I may try the next book in the series, but I'm in no rush to do so.

I wanted to like this. I don‘t think I‘m much of a short story person. They have to be amazing. This feels so disjointed and incomprehensible! The writing is awful and I just can‘t care enough. It bounces so many places I can‘t seem to get my head around this world at all. Needless to say I didn‘t finish.

I think it‘s best for me to just start with the trilogy and get I to the actual heart of the story.

RainyDayReading I‘m in the same boat. I know everyone says to start with the short stories but...I think I may just skip the rest and just jump right into the regular series. 5d
Booklover2 Yes I‘m totally gonna do the same thing. This book makes no sense 5d

The Witcher books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski came well before the popular video game franchise.

There is soon to be a Netflix series based off the books staring Henry Cavill.

I have to admit - I'm more a fan of the game so far. I've only read this first one, which is a collection of short stories. Apparently they get better so I'll haveta read more & see for myself.

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
@OriginalCyn620

Jari-chan I never played the game (only watched Hubbie playing it) but I love the books. And to me the world becomes better and deeper with every book I read. Maybe you'll like them a bit better too at some point. And if not - at least you can enjoy the game! 1w

When I heard that the new Netflix adaptation of The Witcher series was going to star Henry Cavill this series zoomed to the top of my TBR. The recommendation for reading order starts with this collection of short stories which I thoroughly enjoyed. The audio narrator is really good. The Comic Con trailer can be seen here https://youtu.be/cSqi-8kAMmM

Cheshirecat913 I had to laugh when I showed my husband the trailer. He was oh, making movies out of video games don't really work. 😅 2w
toofondofbooks @Cheshirecat913 the video games were actually based on the books 2w
Cheshirecat913 That is why I had to laugh, that the video games are more well known than the books. 2w

New trailer for The Witcher was released yesterday and I've got mixed feelings. I need to remind myself that they're basing the show on the books and not the video game series (which I loved more than the books). And now I feel like I need to go re-read the books. I'm a little surprised at how old Ciri is in the show though and Henry Cavill actually wound up surprising me in a good way!

An absolutely brilliant set of short stories that provide excellent Witcher lore. I‘d always wondered about the back story to the Witcher and Yennefer/Dandelion and this has given me an insight into a small part of it. I love playing the Witcher games on Xbox and from reading the first in the series, the games have Geralt‘s character spot on. I can‘t wait to read the next in the series!

Jari-chan The Witcher books are great reads. He's not your typical hero. 1mo

This has been the story of the last few months. I start books, yet never finish any of them. I am almost done with 5 of these (within 50 pages) halfway done with 2 and just started the last. Yet I have no motivation to finish any of these despite liking the stories 😪 Anyway, this is why I have been MIA. Can‘t really post if I‘m not reading much 😅

I read the first two books in the Witcher series, I loved the fantasy but didn‘t really get some it.So I finished the The last Wish which is a book of stories that definitely gives you an understanding of the Witcher,the world and some of the politics.I definitely will read Sword of Destiny and then go back and pick up the third book in the series having a better understanding of the characters,politics and the world 🗡⚔️

I recently discovered this excellent series. SO GOOD. It‘s by a polish author that started the series back in the nineties. They just released the english translation of his most recent addition last year. This guy gets it, understands folklore and mythology in a way that even good fantasy authors don‘t seem to. It‘s not a bright and shiny epic. First couple books are anthologies and the rest are novels (7 or 8 books in total, I believe).

Ddzmini Read it I‘m moving to 👇🏻 now 😝🥰📖😋 5mo
Ross Which one is that in the series? I just found out that the newest one (Storm of Swords, I believe) takes place during the timeline of the anthologies and should be read before getting into the rest of the novels proper. Have you read that and if so, do you suggest I read them in the order published or hit up Storm of Swords next? (edited) 5mo
Ross lol also, what are your (spoiler-free) thoughts on it so far? 5mo

It was recommended to me by a few folx, all of them male video gamers -- as, apparently, there is a game called The Witcher based upon this series.

Surprisingly good for a story about a man with a golden dick. Geralt as a character developed surprisingly well through out the story, it's just a shame that the other characters felt a little lacking in comparison. I'm hoping that they are further developed in subsequent books.

There is a noticeable disjointedness to these stories, but the writing is beautiful, the creatures monstrously gorey, and the world building gloriously gorgeous. Even though this is all introductory setup for the novels to come, I sort of fell in love with G! He‘s smoking hot gorgeous and just steams off the page. Definitely plan to continue this series in 2019.
