Captive Prince
Captive Prince: Book One of the Captive Prince Trilogy | C. S. Pacat
Damen is a warrior hero to his people, and the rightful heir to the throne of Akielos, but when his half brother seizes power, Damen is captured, stripped of his identity, and sent to serve the prince of an enemy nation as a pleasure slave.Beautiful, manipulative and deadly, his new master Prince Laurent epitomizes the worst of the court at Vere. But in the lethal political web of the Veretian court, nothing is as it seems, and when Damen finds himself caught up in a play for the throne, he must work together with Laurent to survive and save his country. For Damen, there is just one rule: never, ever reveal his true identity. Because the one man Damen needs is the one man who has more reason to hate him than anyone else . . .

Just want to give a shout-out to the Libby app and my library for letting me check out books 10 minutes before my bedtime and without my parents seeing ☺️

Ok, so I'm 35 (I can read what I want), but we make weekly trips to the library together. ?And trying to explain to them the premise behind these... ? "Yeah, so think Game of Thrones, but with, like, pleasure slaves..." ?‍♀️

Reading slump ✅ Exercise slump ✅ So I decided to re-read this series which I love & finally unpack my bike from storage to get back outside and off the stationary bike. The wind almost killed me yesterday, but so happy to be biking again. Hoping to finish out these last 2 weeks of #bookfitnesschallenge on a high note! #bfc @wanderinglynn

jessinikkip Congrats! I really think something like a stationary bike or treadmill would help me, but we don't have the money or anywhere for one yet. Not with 4 people's stuff still needing to be sorted after the move. 2mo
Caterina Great job dragging yourself out of your book and exercise slumps!! You rock! 🙌💪 2mo

I've been trying to read more LGBTQ+ (because I realized it's an area I'm lacking in and can't recommend to library users) and have heard this trilogy is hugely popular. I picked it up and I was hooked. I get why everybody loves it. #LGBTQ #fantasy #historical #slightromance

I‘m rereading this historical m/m fantasy romance. This trilogy, especially the first book, is crammed full of trigger warnings and may be problematic for some readers. But I‘m so infatuated with Prince Laurent 🖤. My weakness is bad boys.

YMMV, for what it is, it's good. This trilogy plus epilogue is fun, mindless, and restful. It requires no brain power, and that's what I needed after 9 days with my parents. It's an alternate history circa 200CE, where only Europe exists and everyone is gay. Most of the narrative is warring and intrigue, with some nice M/M sex interspersed and a lot of sexual tension. Very fanfictional. TW for threats of and offscreen rape and pedophilia.

EloisaJames What‘s The Summer Palace? I read the other three and couldn‘t put them down. I met her—super smart and eccentric, as you might expect. (Eccentric in the best meaning of the word) 14mo
tournevis @EloisaJames It's the smutty epilogue. They meet at the summer palace a month or so after the denouement and bang 14mo
Leelee.reads This is a fun series. I loved your summary of The Summer Palace 😄 14mo

tournevis @Leelee.reads I dare anyone describe it differently! 14mo
EloisaJames @tournevis ha! I definitely need to read that! I read the books to and from work on the subway, trying to make sure no one read over my shoulder 14mo
tournevis @EloisaJames For what it is, it's not very explicit overall. I've read erotica (I should be honest and say porn) on public transit and sitting beside my parents over the years. 14mo

Ok so someone recommended this to me WITHOUT mentioning this is pretty much erotica. I was expecting a romance. To each their own, erotica is just not my cup of tea.

A great warrior and heir to the Akielos throne, Damen, is caught unawares by his half brother's power play for the throne. Damen is captured and sent to serve as a pleasure slave for the prince of an enemy nation.

Great slow burn between Prince Laurent and Damen. Really need book 2 now!

The cold sass of Laurent and the just flat out Warrior Damen made this fun to read

"Don't be presumptuous", Said Laurent, coldly.
"Too late, sweetheart", said Damien.

The attitude that sums up their entire relationship.

I liked this, the writing was strong, the characterization was great. I admit I expected a bit more sexy stuff, hehe, but I still enjoyed the story. Some parts felt a little rushed. I feel like this story could easily be even longer, more on the scale of a good old fantasy epic with all the descriptions of travel and courtly life.

StellaDz I love this series!! Stick with it because the sexy stuff 😉 comes! It is a very slow build up to. 3y

These books survived the cull. 😊 I think if my place we're on fire, I'd have to save my Melina Marchetta YA books. Which books would you save from burning? #captiveprince #keepers #shelfie #romantsy

Chachic I might not survive because it would take me ages to gather all the books I want to save. Although I've been doing a good job of culling every time I go home. 3y

BookThingo @EloisaJames Not quite hardcovers. These are the C format Australian editions. They're large, but softcover. 😊 3y
Chachic Will they last until then though? Because books in the Philippines tend to age fast because of the heat and humidity. I don't think my books can be kept for my non-existent kids. 3y

How awesome is it that an original slash fic can end up a Penguin-published trilogy in our day and age? C. S. Pacat has a great ear for language and her first novel is so exquisitely plotted, I tore through it in a single sitting. It reminds me a great deal of the YA Winners trilogy (fantasy world of warring nations, main cast of royalty/courtiers, legal slavery as source of conflict/sexual tension) but M/M and VERY adult. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #romantsy

EloisaJames I do not like slave narratives at all--but this one was fabulous! 3y

I'm now the proud owner of the Captive Prince trilogy! I checked these out on Overdrive originally, but once I finished the series I knew I had to add it to my library! 😍

CaitlinSiem YAY!!!! CP and PG have bonus scenes in them in the paperback versions! 3y
CaitlinSiem Also, didn't know if you know or not, but the first of three short stories Pacat is doing for the trilogy just came out! (It's only available in ebook form) 3y
Fullmetalmarshmallow I can't wait to read the bonus content! Part of the reason I knew I had to buy them. I knew that Green for but a Season just came out, but I haven't seen it on iBooks (and I thought she said it was going to be there?). I don't have a kindle app and I wasn't really wanting to spread my ebooks over three things (iBooks, nook, AND kindle), but I might. Getting desperate 😪 @CaitlinSiem 3y

The Training of Erasmus is a short story at the end of the Captive Prince paperback (I have the US copy so I'm unsure if it's included in the UK copy as well or not).

This was my first time reading it and I enjoyed the sneak peak into Erasmus's life before we meet him in CP. It's a sweet story with its own heartbreaking moments. I just wanna give Erasmus a hug, poor thing.

It's rare for me to read a book twice in a year but as Laurent never leaves my thoughts, it wasn't hard to convince myself.

How happy I was to have my atrocious smol Prince Laurent back once more! (Honestly, I love him a ton even though he's wretched most of the time, that's part of his charm)

It's such an interesting storyline and it didn't fail to suck me in once more. This trilogy is truly a favorite and I loved CP even more this time around.

I loved the trilogy. I have never read a love story like this but I found it real attractive while it danced around the question of trust, political greed, wars and freedom of love within slavery. Also I love the little jealous, condescending, arrogant pack of surprises and intellectuality, Laurent. Yup team Laurent.

CaitlinSiem @GinaAnderson This is a reread. And I agree, it's a favorite of mine. 🤗 3y
CaitlinSiem @CDT It is a trilogy (Captive Prince, Prince's Gambit, Kings Rising is the order) that I love. It's fantasy but reads more like historical and without magic (one of the countries has a Roman flare to it and the other is a little more French(?) so it has a fun dynamic). There's an incredible slow burn romance, too. And the two main characters are so different but fascinating. I'll add there are trigger warnings (rape) in the first book. 3y
GinaAnderson @CaitlinSiem I'm morally obligated to tell you this series is fanfic for The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. I think there are maybe 40 of us who've read Lymond but we can't shut up about it. If you follow me, you know I'm among the worst. 3y

How do I recover from reading an insanely incredible book that's left one helluva book hangover behind (Empire of Storms, I'm looking—longingly—at you)? By rereading another favorite, of course!

StephTKO Tell me more about this Empire of Storms... 3y
Laalaleighh What is this captive prince? 3y
CaitlinSiem @StephTKO Empire of Storms is book 5 in the Throne of Glass series. (There are 6 books in the series, EoS just released this past week). It's one of my favorite series. 🤗 ((I have tagged book one in the series if you wanted to take a look. They really build with each book into something awesome and huge and entertaining)) 3y
CaitlinSiem @Laalaleighh Captive Prince is the first book in a trilogy that I adore. It's a fantasy that has a bit of a Roman/Greek time feel to it but unique enough that it's not exactly. It's about two princes. One is kind of a strong teddy bear and the other is a sassy, too smart for his own good, grouchy peanut (or something. I love him). There is an exceptional(ly) slow burn m/m romance too. It's adult and a bit dark at times but 😍. Quick reads, too. 3y
