Making Up | Lucy Parker

I love Lucy Parker‘s books, and she has a new book out on Tuesday! (Same day as my Too Wilde to Wed, actually). Have you read her books? If you haven‘t read her first two, jump at them! Sexy, funny, English, adorable. #keepers #romance

dylanisreading I love Act Like It! 6y
EloisaJames @Bianca me too! I‘ve read it 3 times 6y
MarriedtoMrT I think this new one is actually my favorite so far! I hope you like it. 6y
EloisaJames @MarriedtoMrT I am loving it so much—making myself read slowly. 6y

I spent a happy afternoon in Provence, rereading an old Jayne C. I love the early ones, because she was hitting romance tropes out of the park. Here Stone (gotta love it) is declared unmatchable, so he goes on a hunt for a mate but the woman he finds doesn't meet any of the parameters he told the marriage agency that he HAD to have in a wife...funny, sexy, and super tropey in all the right ways. #alphas. #romantsy #paranormalromance. #keepers

mcipher Oh, sounds fun!! 7y
LeahBergen What a lovely setting. 7y

Linda is one of my BFFs, but that's not what makes me adore The Glass Kitchen. I loved the thread of deep magic tied to cooking from the moment the novel opens in Texas--right up until the heroine washes up on the island of New York, trying to drown her magic book...Tempest, anyone? #romantsy. #shakespeare #keepers. #womensfiction. #magicrealism. #escape!

Bostonmomx2 I really enjoyed that book!! 7y
LauraBrook Ooooh, this sounds fantastic! #stacked 7y
christineandbooks This reminds me of Sarah Addison Allen's books! I'll have to give it a try... 7y

I read past my subway stop yesterday (thanks to a @Jokila rec!). On one level, it's scary sci-fi that makes reasoned arguments about the likelihood of advanced civilization in the galaxy. Like the best in the genre, it combines wild creativity with a ferocious moral compass. But it's the unnamed, patient, super-intelligent interrogatory voice that fascinated me. In short: the format is as brilliant as the idea! #scifi #keepers #sciencefiction

Mc_cart_ny This was such a good book! I just got the second one and I can't wait to read. 😊 7y
Jokila #tfw your rec works out! ☺️🎊 I hope he can write book three really fast!! 7y
IamIamIam Lol, I just put this on the bookshelf from the Comic Con pile!! Thanks for the great rec!!! 7y

Boghunden I just looked at this yesterday, but decided against it. Seems like I made a mistake... 7y
Kmmsellers Great review! 7y
triskeleseeker Ooh I've got this one in my ebook tbr, just waiting...looking forward to it! 7y
DarcysBookBlog Loved this book! 7y
EloisaJames @Boghunden you must. Seriously. A friend tried to get me and I said no on the basis of the cover--I haven't been able to stop thinking of it all day. 7y
Boghunden @EloisaJames is it sci-fi or more like fantasy? 🙂 7y
EloisaJames @Boghunden I think of fantasy as dwarfs and dragons--so not that. It's sci-fi but it takes place on earth so it's more about us than aliens, if that makes sense. (edited) 7y
Boghunden @EloisaJames sounds like sci-fi to me :) Thanks! 7y
Debiw781 @EloisaJames This series is amazing! 7y
EloisaJames @Debiw781 I can't wait for the next one. Up up and away! 7y

White Hot | Ilona Andrews

Pickpick

I've read it twice and preordered the next--now what am I going to do??? White Hot is a fantastic example of urban fantasy: Uber powerful alpha hero, but slowly, the heroine is revealed to be even more powerful. Yes!!! Desirable in this world isn't about gleaming teeth but ferocious magic (ignore the cover, in other words). Read it!! #romantsy. #keepers. #urbanfantasy. #romance. #alpha

Rebekaaah Literally just about to start this! 👍🏻 7y
Chachic LOVED this one! A favorite read for this year. I had to go back and reread Burn for Me right after finishing White Hot. I should read those two books again back to back.💖💖 7y
EloisaJames @Chachic I did the same thing. Now I don't want to get out of bed because...nothing as good to read. Going to troll #romantsy 7y

Otherworld_Library Thanks Eloisa! Will try! 7y
CoffeeK8 This series is just amazing! 7y
BeckyLeJ What a great review, @EloisaJames! I was giving a copy of this one to my sister but now I might have to get one for myself as well! 7y
EloisaJames @BeckyLeJ you won't be disappointed!! I looked at Amazon--320 reviews, 5 stars! I didn't even know that was possible! 7y
Chachic @EloisaJames I know exactly how you feel! I was a bit lost after finishing Burn for Me and White Hot because I didn't know what else could be as good. Have you read all of their books? I was saving up their Innkeeper Chronicles and recently picked those up when I had a slump. 7y
EloisaJames @Chachic I've read every single word. Did you read the short story that preceded this series? Somewhat same idea but sci fi? I think it's called Silver Shark. I adore it 7y
Chachic @EloisaJames Silent Blade and Silver Shark! Yes, I reread both of them recently. If you happen to have recs similar to their writing style, would love to hear them.😊 7y
EloisaJames @Chachic I think Kresley Cole's Immortals after Dark is excellent too. But there's nothing like I's books that I know of. 😔 7y
Chachic @EloisaJames I'd have to look up Kresley Cole's books, haven't tried any of them yet. Thanks for the rec! 😊 And I agree, there's nothing like Ilona and Gordon's books. 7y
willreadforfeels @EloisaJames: This book is definitely making it to my top picks for 2017! I have reread this book about four times since it came out last week, and I've reread Burn for Me twice! Then I went and reread the Kinsmen books, Silver Shark and Silent Blade. I might reread it again tonight if I don't get to rewatch Wonder Woman. Nevada Baylor and Diana Prince have me obsessed. 7y
EloisaJames @willreadforfeels you and I are kindred readers! I did the same. Ilona and I are friends so I emailed her yesterday and suggested that the Silver Shark world would be so great to revisit! AND I asked if there's an ARC yet, and there isn't. #obsessedreadersunite 7y
willreadforfeels @EloisaJames: I started on my 5th reread of White Hot, on the premise that when you have a book hangover, hair of the dog that bit you is as valid a remedy as with alcohol! And if that turns out to be patently untrue, I'll happily come up with a different excuse for reading when I should be working. I've also stalked the Ilona blog for snippets and Rohan POV stuff and have read each relevant post a couple of times. #obsessedreadersunite #notsorry 7y
EloisaJames @willreadforfeels why why aren't there more writers like this?? I dove back into Indy-pubs looking for a miracle and didn't find one. 7y
willreadforfeels @EloisaJames: I also fangirl hard on Patricia Briggs and Mercedes Lackey but right now Ilona Andrews is it for me. 7y

Rivals | Jilly Cooper
post image
Pickpick

I am a hopeless Jilly Cooper addict. This series is a brilliant evocation of punning, super-rich, (mostly) upper-class British people chasing each other around bedrooms and race tracks. This one is about the race to start a television franchise--very different than anything in the US, so that was fun too. But basically this is witty toffee, and perfect for long plane rides and days at the beach! #keepers #romantsy

julesG Some British #braincandy? Sounds good. 7y
CarolynM Rivals is my favourite Jilly Cooper 7y
EloisaJames @CarolynM I think Riders is mine, but Rivals is close. 7y

Some old school keepers: Jo Goodman writes some of my favourite historical romances. My Steadfast Heart is great (but you can skip Tempting Torment). Julie Garwood's heroines in The Bride and The Secret might feel a little dated now, but I love how fierce they are. #romantsy #keepers

MarriedtoMrT I loved (and still do) The Wedding by Julie Garwood. 7y
BookThingo @MarriedtoMrT I don't think I've read that one. (I came to Garwood pretty late - just a few years ago!) I'll keep a look out for it. Thanks for the rec! 😊 7y

Pretty Face | Lucy Parker
post image
Pickpick

This #romance has a fascinating premise--the heroine is a gorgeous blonde with a porn star voice, type-cast as a TV sex-pot, desperate to break into serious acting. She's smart but people instantly think she's stupid--not true of this cover model. But then I have an anorexic model on a book about a curvy heroine, so I know how that goes! (Pleasure for Pleasure, if you want to witness the disaster yourself.) #romantsy. #keepers.

writerlibrarian This one is in my queue of books for March. 😁 7y
Chachic Loved this one! 💖 Can't wait to read more of @LucyParker's books. 7y
Vexingcircumstance I don't think she looks anorexic. She's about my size. That's a fairly normal size. She doesn't look unhealthy. That said, she def isn't curvy. I hate when cover art doesn't fit the description in the book. :/ 7y
See All 8 Comments
Laalaleighh @Vexingcircumstance yeah she's about my size too. Of course, curvy I am not (I wish) 7y
JoannaShupe Looking forward to reading this! I love Act Like It. 😁 7y
EloisaJames @Vexingcircumstance I guess it's in relation to how I see her! 7y
afbaugh I love Pleasure for Pleasure, but the cover always irritates me. I am curvy and that was my first romance that felt like I could be the heroine. I just wished the cover matched the actual characters. 7y
EloisaJames @afbaugh I'm sorry! I wasn't high enough in the hierarchy at that point to make a fuss about the cover. 7y

This is my absolute favorite Heyer! Sophy has lived her life abroad, and so she shows up in England with her mini-greyhound, a parrot, and a monkey--and absolutely no intention of obeying or listening to her family's autocratic alpha. Ha! She rules! She solves everyone's problems...even that of the said autocrat's really dreadful fiancée. #romantsy. #Georgetteheyer. #romance. #keepers. #regency

LitHousewife I have this one. I need to read it. It sounds fun. 7y
robinb This was my very first Heyer, and still my favorite! ❤❤❤ 7y
CoffeeK8 The don't know if I can pick my favorite! This is the top for sure but I also 💖Devil's Cub and Cotillion. (Which is really the gamut of heroes) 7y

Laura317 I need to re-read this one! 7y
balletbookworm My favorites are Venetia or The Convenient Marriage. (Haven't read The Grand Sophy yet ;) ) 7y
EloisaJames @balletbookworm I love Venetia too. I think that's probably the sexiest one. (Must reread) 7y
EloisaJames @CoffeeK8 no kidding! I hated Cotillion as a teen but now I love it (lifetime experience with men changes things!) 😀 7y
CrowCAH I haven't read and Heyer yet, but she is on the TBR list! 7y
MamaGina My first Heyer was The Foundling and I loved it. The Grand Sophy was a hoot too. Have you read any of her country house mysteries? I picked up several at a charity sale but haven't tried one yet ...sometimes a cozy mystery is just the thing🤓 7y
Christy2318 I still need to read a lot of Heyer but this is my favorite of the ones I've read. 7y
balletbookworm @EloisaJames for extra sexiness, there's an audiobook read by Richard Armitage (aka Mr Thornton aka hot Thorin Oakenshield 🌟). He has an excellent rake voice 7y
mischa Sophy was my first Heyer and is my fave. I used to reread it annually, but it has been a number of years since I picked it up. 7y
bookwrm526 I just started my first Georgette Heyer last night! 7y
EloisaJames @MamaGina I've recently reread them all. I still really enjoyed them but wow, anti-semitism that blew right by me when I was a teen. They are fascinating insight into the time. 7y
EloisaJames @balletbookworm I have him reading one book and he is truly sexy/wonderful! 7y
SeeMichelleRead I haven't read this Heyer yet but it sounds like i need to bump it up. 7y
LeahBergen The Baluchistan Hound! 😂 7y
Angieville This one is next up on my Heyer TBR! 7y
ScientistSam One of my all-time favorites, along with Frederica and a couple of others. Now I need to reread! 7y
flip58 My favorite Georgette Heyer changes as I age. My appreciation deepens. I read my first Heyer at age 12. I very quickly read all of her Regencies. Currently, Cotillion is my favorite. I have been rereading her for nearly 47 years. 7y
EloisaJames @flip58 I think I was around twelve too. They were the only romances at the public library. Thank you, Mr. Carnegie! 7y
flip58 @EloisaJames yes, thank you Andrew Carnegie! I would walk to the huge marble library in Springfield, IL. I was so sad when they tore it down. Happily they reused thee marble. But I did miss the catwalks and musty smell of old books 7y
Dragon Time for a reread 😀 7y
