Heartless | Marissa Meyer
Long before she was the terror of Wonderland - the infamous Queen of Hearts - she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen . At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king's marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to defineher own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

I‘ve purchased a few new books within the last month. And then a few after that. And a few more after that. What I‘m really trying to say is that I have a ton of books to show you in my latest book haul video! https://youtu.be/wRhaTedRRSw

#booktube #bookhaul #somanybookssolittletime #youtubeforbooks #bookloversunite #itisnthoardingifitsbooks #toberead #septemberhaul #librarybooksale

EadieB @Butterflyamore Here are the ones I have read:
Then She Was Gone - All of Lisa Jewell's books are good!
No Second Chance - I love Harlan Coben's books!
The Flight Attendant - found main character, Cassie Bowden extremely unlikeable and stupid.
Bonesetter's Daughter - Love Amy Tan books
Once Upon A River - Loved this one too
Beatown and US Against You - Loved both books
City of Falling Angels - Love books about Venice
Bring Me Back - Surprise end
3w
EadieB @Butterflyamore Recently required by me:
My Grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry - Fredrik Backman
The Bookseller - Cynthia Swanson
Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
The Dive From Clausen's Pier - Ann Packer
The couple next door - Shari Lapena
What She Knew - Gilly MacMillan
Magpie Murders - Anthony Horowitz
Redemption Road - John Hart
Happy Like Murderers by Gordon Burn - True Crime about Fred and Rosemary West
Perfidia - James Ellroy
3w
Butterflyamore I enjoyed My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She‘s Sorry. It‘s a sweet story. The Couple Next Door is a good page turner. I have What She Knew and Magpie Murders but I haven‘t read them yet. I think I might have Redemption Road but I am not certain. I‘ll have to double check. I do have a couple of his other books, though. 3w

EadieB @Butterflyamore Enjoyed your video. I am not much for the fairytale retelling books but I think I would like to read StepSister since you are enjoying it so much. I have 5 other books by Jennifer Donnelly on my TBR but I'm not sure when I will be reading them. They are: A Northern Light, The Tea Rose, The Winter Rose, Revolution and The Wild Rose.
With the 100 books for The Great American Reads, I read 75 of them and completed a Bingo Card.

Initially I picked three books for my September TBR pile. It seemed like a wise decision. I could select whatever my mood desired after that.

Well, mistakes were made.

I‘ve borrowed from the library and decided to do a fairytale bingo game from one of my book groups, which means I‘ve added quite a few to my pile!

TBR books not pictured: Sea Witch, The Perfect Child, and The Stranger Diaries.

Have you read any of these?

Book_ish Read and loved both Stepsister and Recursion. Gave both books 5 stars! 1mo

So this was 8 kinds of amazing! My love for Marissa Meyer deepens even more! This reminded me a bit of “Wicked”, but with the character building, banter, & truly realistic characters I‘ve come to love Meyer for. Her world building & symbolism is phenomenal, but it‘s her characters that truly make. Also, amazing intertextuality! “Alice in Wonderland”, Nursery Rhymes, & even Edgar Allen Poe! Just wonderful!

I went into this not knowing if it was a retelling, a spin off, an origin story, or something else...and I think in this case, ignorance was bliss and great suspense 😊 I loved how immersive the world was, and also enjoyed the dialogue. I plan to read more from Marissa Meyer!

I had such high hopes for this book and it wasn‘t what I expected at all. Very disappointing plot. The characters were interesting for the most part but some felt very flat and 2 dimensional. And honestly it wasn‘t sad or painful enough. ⭐️⭐️

The first part of the book brought out my inner child, even making me want to watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland again. Then I began to feel so incredibly sorry for Cath. Her mother was a horrible, wretched, selfish, person. I pitied Cath and felt saddened that she had no say over her own life. The ending seemed a bit rushed with her dramatic change in personality. That's why I gave it 4 stars.
And Jest. Oh, Jest! ❤😭

I absolutely love fairy tale retellings and think this might be one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland inspired ones! It is a fantastic tale of the how the Queen of Hearts becomes the wicked villain. The character evolution was amazing and so well done! I loved the world that was built, and all the nuances and quirks that carried over from the original tale. Such a wonderful read!

Rereading Heartless for my penultimate OWL #Magicalreadathon
I still have to read a book for Arithmancy. Do you have any suggestions? For those of you who don't know, to complete the challenge for Arithmancy, I need to read a book written by multiple authors. Currently I only have Obsidio, but I'm not really in the mood for Sci-fi.

As for #Tometopple I finished 2 tomes and I'm in the middle of HP & the Goblet of fire. 💪
I'll post soon again.

jenniferw88 Neil Gaiman? 6mo
OnePageAtATime @BooksAndTea97 what genre of books are you in the mood for? 6mo
BooksAndTea97 @OnePageAtATime maybe a fantasy (but nothing to complicated) or some lighter read, I'm up for anything.. It's just that when reading sci-fi I really need to concentrate to follow the plot properly. 6mo

3.5 ⭐️

It turns out that the Queen of Hearts wasn‘t always so nasty, but instead was a lovely girl with hopes and dreams and a love of baking. This book gives us an interesting twist on the tales of Wonderland we all know, seeing familiar characters from a different perspective, and it is equally wonderful and woeful finding out how and why they become who we now know them to be.
