The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye
The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye: A Lisbeth Salander novel, continuing Stieg Larsson's Millennium Series | David Lagercrantz
106 posts | 102 read | 2 reading | 51 to read
From the author of the #1 international best seller The Girl in the Spider's Web: the new book in the Millennium series, which began with Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Lisbeth Salander, the girl with the dragon tattoo, the brilliant hacker, the obstinate outsider, the volatile seeker of justice for herself and others--even she has never been able to uncover the most telling facts of her traumatic childhood, the secrets that might finally, fully explain her to herself. Now, when she sees a chance to uncover them once and for all, she enlists the help of Mikael Blomkvist, the editor of the muckraking, investigative journal Millennium. And she will let nothing stop her--not the anti-Muslim gang she enrages by rescuing a young woman from their brutality; not the deadly reach from inside the Russian mafia of her long-lost twin sister, Camilla; and not the people who will do anything to keep buried knowledge of a sinister pseudoscientific experiment known only as The Registry. Once again, Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, together, are the fierce heart of a thrilling full-tilt novel that takes on some of the most insidious problems facing the world at this very moment.

I was sorely disappointed in the previous book (#4) in the Millennium series. To me, it felt nothing like Stieg Larsson‘s original three, and at that time I swore I was done with the series. But I had a change of heart because I really did miss the characters of Salander & Blomkvist, and so decided to give this one (#5) a try. I was pleasantly surprised. This one was much better than the last.

The first time I listened to this I gave it three stars. After a second listen (during my Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series reread) I‘m escalating it to four stars. While Lagercrantz‘s books lack the beguiling personalities of Salander and Blomkvist which Larsson brought to his books, the story itself is tense, complex and exciting. As far as thrillers go, it‘s pretty close to the mark. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

While I enjoyed this book and found it to be a worthy addition to the Millennium series, I feel it lacked focus. Too many storylines resulted in a lack of depth for all. It definitely could have been better but was a fun read.

I think Lagencrantz (sp?) has ruined this series. If you‘re looking for a story that involves Salander & Blomkvist, eating sandwiches and good crime aspects look for another book... cause you won‘t find it in this one! (Side note; waaaay too many characters). 2/5.

I liked The Girl Who Takes An Eye For An Eye better than the previous book. This felt more like a continuation of the original trilogy.

I liked this this one (#5 in the Lisbeth Salander) better than the last one. It read more like Stieg Larsson's first three. A lot of storylines going at once.

#ReadingResolutions Day 23: Central to the narrative is a social scientific experiment gone wrong, #BookTwins torn apart (including Lisbeth Salander and her psycho twin), what life in prison is like, and the prevailing issue of otherness. The story remains readable. However, I found the differing timelines presented in different typography jarring and unnecessary. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-iNW

There were too many threads going on at once, which made it hard to follow and painfully slow for the most part. I‘m glad I persevered as the last 50 pages were better and got more exciting, but there was too much description and background and not enough action for me.

I‘ve enjoyed all of these books and I actually think the author has done a great job taking over an already wonderful series, however I feel the plot in this one lacked some of the excitement from the previous books. It wasn‘t a bad story but I felt it was just building and then it was over. I love the characters of Lisbeth and Mikael though and they shone through as always. Enjoyed it but probably didn‘t love it as much as the others.

Mostly unrelated photo of a golf shoe I bought in Minnesota. I attempted to listen to this audiobook during my drive back to Missouri a few weeks ago. Lost interest at some point. My loan expired with a couple hours left to go, but I really didn't care. Forgot I had even been reading it until I saw it on my Litsy profile.

I didn‘t have high hopes for this book so a So-So is a pleasant surprise. Having said that, I‘m unclear as to the main storyline as there were three going on at the same time, interesting as they were. The narrator wasn‘t endearing either: he gave every character an elderly person‘s voice! Still, it was a pleasure to be in Lisbeth‘s company again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Audible

I suppose this is technically my last #VacationRead, as I started it at the airport in Montréal and finished it today while at home! I‘m thankful that I took this rainy Monday off to have a day to relax before returning to work!! ??? As for this fifth installment of the Millennium series, I think it‘s better than the fourth (I‘m a sucker for #twins!) but still lacking the sparkle of the original books and relies too heavily on telling...

My new listen. Reviews on this are poor and I think it‘s down to David Lagercrantz‘s portrayal of Lisbeth Salander which lacks that je ne sais quoi brought originally by Stieg Larsson, but we shall see....

Pruzy I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I feel that Lagercrantz‘s take on the series pares down some of the chaff literally weighing down Larsson‘s books, which makes for a more enjoyable and fast paced reading experience. 2y
Peterfox123 Be very interested to see what you think bout this one. 2y

And done....Definitely missing Steig Larssons writing in the last two books but still a pretty good read.

cherinium I recently bought The Girl in the Spider's Web, but haven't read it yet. I've been really hesitant to venture into this world again with a new author. The trilogy was just SO good! 2y
Tianarose @cherinium, the trilogy is amazing, I found the 4th and 5th to be a little lacking Steigs touch, however I was so vested in Lisbeth and Mikael adventures that I couldn‘t resist reading them. And despite all that they were still good. 2y

I enjoyed this book but it lacked the sparkle that Stieg Larsson gave to Lisbeth Salander. I know it's got to be hard to take over for an author and I think David Lagercrantz should be commended. I just would have liked to see what Larsson would have done for Salander character. The research on the study of twins was very interesting and made the plot a lot more fascinating. Can't wait for the next book to see what Lizbeth and Blomkvist are up to.

#ReadingResolutions Day 6: I am a huge fan of the Stieg Larsson novels - perfect for the #suspense prompt today and really looking forward to reading this latest book in the series. I have a feeling The Trespasser of Tana French would fit the bill too. Love the edge and noir aspect of European #suspense novelists. Both are #ReviewCopies provided by my fave book distributor. 😍📚

I honestly don‘t know why I‘m still reading this series. I guess I just feel like I‘ve already invested in them, so I might as well keep going (this is also why I‘m still watching Grey‘s Anatomy-it‘s too late to turn back now). Anyway, this book is fine-if you liked the others in the series, you‘ll enjoy this one too 🤷🏻‍♀️ These new books aren‘t as good as the original trilogy, but it‘s fun to check in with the characters.

RaimeyGallant I feel like I would have to re-read them, because I remember so little. 2y

Book #5 in the Millennium series finds Lisabeth in prison where she is visited by Holger Palmgren. He delivers news from her childhood then he is murdered. Lisabeth is also protecting another inmate from a third inmate. Throw in a secret study of twins uncovered by Blomkvist which involved Lisabeth and Camilla... I loved the first three books of this series, but this one drug on for 250+ pages. This may be the last of the series for me.

I very seldom give a book ONE STAR but oh boy, this is this year's fortunate winner. I didn't dislike Lagercrantz's first #Millenium book but this was terrible. This had no plot at all and the writing was terribly CRINGY in some parts. This was supposed to be all about Salander's past but it is not. Also, is it just me or did Blomkvist seem unrecognizable??
I'm hoping to squeeze in one last read for 2017 because I am so disappointed...
