Not the best in the series, but I enjoyed it. I thought the crimes taking place in the ice cream factory was a nice touch. Stephanie gets to go undercover in two different factories. This is a fun, light-hearted read. Nothing deep here, just a good time. I still enjoy this series and am excited to read #24 next.

CarolynM I still enjoy this series. Like you say, it's just a bit of fun🙂 5y

1. I don‘t really have a “guilty pleasure book” because I will never feel guilty about reading any book. I just love to read, but one of my fave easy, fun series reads is Janet Evanovich‘s Stephanie Plum series.
2. Again, no guilt, but I love to watch (& quote) any of the 80s teen flicks, like The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Say Anything, etc.
3. Wendy‘s chocolate frosty

Wanted a fast airplane read, haven‘t read these for awhile. I was thinking that maybe someone finally got married or maybe the best character of Grandma had a larger part but nope! Can‘t read these anymore, same story still over and over and over and over.

stacybmartin @DGRachel @BethM right?!? It‘s the exact same story recycled over and over: Stephanie waffles between two men, has a car explosion, Ranger says Babe 28748827 times, Lula has some dumb idea, and so it continues on and onnnnnnn. I really need to stop reading them but sometimes you get desperate when everything is on the holds list! 🤣 6y
BethM I got through 8 about 2 yrs ago, went to the bookstore read the back of 20something, and called it. The Anita Blake series showed me when it's time it's time 😂 6y
BethM I hear ya about desperation though! 6y
rockpools 😂I've only read 2 of these, but that plot sounds pretty much spot on for both of them! 6y
DGRachel 🤣🤣 So true! They used to be funny, but after reading the same story 15 times, one becomes ready for a change. 6y
Audrey I'm so with you, yeti keep hate reading them. I keep thinking that Stephanie will make a decision and the series will end. 6y

As much as I love this series it is really starting to be very predictable. Okay it has been very predictable for a while now. I would like to see something different with the next book. It's still a pick for me though because it is a quick, easy, mindless read and sometimes you need just that.

As always, I enjoyed all the fun hijinks of Lula and Grandma Mazur. The reason I didn't enjoy the book more isn't because Stephanie continues to have no character arc (I actually think she's getting better at her job), but because while I enjoy the flirtation, in this book Stephanie is clearly with Morelli but sleeps with Ranger anyways. I'm not a fan of cheaters, even with the hotness of Ranger. It also makes me dislike Ranger, which is sad.

This was an excellent light read. It is humorous just like all the books in this series. Many people comment that it's too predictable but honestly these are light humorous reads and shouldn't be taken that seriously.

I thought this was ok. A fun way to spend a couple of hours. The crime solution felt a bit rushed but my main complaint is that I really wish Stephanie would decide between Morelli and Ranger or just accept she is sleeping with both when it suits. After 23 books her guilt and angst is wearing thin for me as a reader.
Having said that Lula and Grandma continue to delight though I fear I was reading it more for them than Stephanie.

Not the best Plum but not the worst. Janet has been kind of phoning these in for awhile now but it's still a fun way to spend a few hours. Plus Grandma Mazur never disappoints.

DGRachel My mom used the exact phrase to describe how she felt about Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum novels. So sad when you're left feeling taken for granted by an author. 7y

I wasn't planning on reading this one, but my father-in-law passed it along when he finished it. The formula still works I guess, they are still entertaining and still make me laugh...but some of the humor makes me cringe, and I just feel like moving on from this series. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterE

brutalbookworm I had to quit after the 18th one. I finally realized that her and Ranger were never going to be together so I had to cut it off completely. 7y

Finished this one on my walk tonight. On one hand, I feel like Stephanie's been in the same spot for a dozen books but on the other I can never resist. Lula and Grandma Mazur always make it a worthwhile trip. Add to that Lorelei King's fantastic narration and it's well worth the listen.

I am so on the fence on what to do. I think this is the 23rd time I read the same novel, but somehow I get a little enjoyment. I Kurds it is only one book a year, so probably will continue.

Suzze Everyone I know that has read it has said versions of the same thing. I'm on the waiting list at the library, but may take my name off. My sister said she's done. 7y
jessdean True. But for some reason I keep going back for more😆 Usually because I need something quick & easy to read in between the heavy stuff :) 7y
suvata Stephanie Plum got old for me at about book number 15. Still, I kept reading them all. Think I shall pass on this one. 7y
See All 12 Comments
DGRachel I think I stopped around #18, as did my mom who felt that JE was churning out the same tale with bigger fonts and bigger margins, taking advantage of her readers - charging novel-length hardback prices for short stories. 7y
BeththeBookDragon I quit at the one with the monkeys wearing metal helmets?? It's been awhile. It's a shame, I loved them at the beginning. I also think JE was more heavily edited at the beginning... 7y
BethM @BeththeBookDragon that was 7 or 8 which is also where I gave up. If I can pick up 23, read the back, and still know what's going on its disappointing. 🙄 7y
AmberB1 I have read them all and had the same reaction after around 15. I will say that I love how the newer books are getting up to speed with modern technology. In the early books and for a long time, the characters only had pagers. Now Steph has a cell phone (thank goodness). I was distracted at times with what felt like strategically placed jargon that didn't really feel natural. A "google that" here and an "Uber" there didn't feel natural at times. 7y
Dragon I made it to 19, but not sure if I'll continue 😀 7y
NovelGirl82 I keep reading them, just because they are a fun little easy read. I do think that 23 was better than 22, for me at least. The Lizzie & Diesel spin-off series is fun. 7y
MeganAnn I read the first 3 books in a row and then quit mostly for this reason. I've picked up a few others at garage sales and thrift stores since, but haven't read them yet. 7y
drbethandherkindle Totally agree, I only made it to #10 or so before giving up 7y
Dogearedcopy I only read the first three before I realized that the Plum universe seemed to be stuck in time; and that the Joe vs Ranger issue would never be resolved :-/ 7y

I can only enjoy these if I come to terms with the fact that Stephanie will never age or pick between Ranger and Morelli. I decided to enjoy these novels for the book/brain candy they are. Stephanie did seem to become more competent in her job in this novel and her car didn't blow up so there was some slight forward movement.

Got this off the hold list at the library. I use to so love these books, but I am really on the fence on these now. This might be my last one of this series.

EllieDottie I've only read the first one. I liked it, but that's all the farther I got! 7y
AlaMich I think I read the first four. They're entertaining but they get very samey pretty quickly. But I guess that formula has worked out pretty well for her. 7y
Ehbooklover I gave up on that series a couple of titles ago. I used to love them but it started to feel like I was reading the same book over and over again. 7y

minkyb I hear you and there are some that fall flat but I've been with Stephanie since the beginning and I would have a hard time saying goodbye! 7y
Sharpeipup I admit that there is no growth for the characters and the love triangle has grown tiresome but they still make me laugh. 7y
Reganw Same with me. I used to get excited to see a new one coming out but didn't make it through 21. Which is actually amazing - 20 books! The only other author I have a long run with is Kathy Reichs. All her books, every episode of Bones! (edited) 7y

I've long since decided to not care about the "love triangle" as I'm starting to feel frowny about the morality of her interactions with the two guys.
This was a little less madcap than usual. Steph is starting to be somewhat competent at pulling in her skips. Not to say there wasn't plenty of amusing moments along the way and I just enjoyed the unravelling of the mystery - my fav part of SP books these days. #romansty #osrbc
