Like many, I read these as a child (still own my copies from the 70's!) & am now revisiting them on audio. This was a tough one to get through, but I remember that it was my least favorite of the series. This is nothing against Alex Jennings, who was a good narrator. Just put a hold on Prince Caspian, which is read by Lynn Redgrave, so I'm looking forward to that! #readingwithmyears

Finished another story in the Narnia Chronicles. I liked the horses and the places we went in this adventurous story. I liked it to return to Narnia.

I somehow lost book 3 of Narnia at some point when I was an irresponsible young child and it never turned up. I have just been settling for a mismatched copy I picked up at Borders it appears in 2002 - they didn‘t have the same editions. Today at the used bookstore, I finally bought the missing book! Do you know how awesome it feels to finally be in possession once again of a COMPLETE set again?! After many years of suffering!

Hestapleton I felt that way about the first Harry Potter book! I left my new copy open in the sun and the binding split and pages fell out. Took me ages to get a proper replacement! 8mo
hgrimes @Hestapleton Oh no! That‘s the worst! I‘ve run into these editions of Narnia on a number of occasions, and each time I‘ve withheld because I‘m obsessive and second guess myself on which book I‘m missing. This time I just took a deep breath and bravely made the $3 purchase. 8mo
Hestapleton @hgrimes so proud 😂💕 8mo

hgrimes @IamIamIam yep! I agree - they‘re the best ones! The cover art is beautiful. 8mo
IamIamIam @hgrimes Everything he does is incredible!!! I have 2 copies of this and one has short stories written by various authors! Stephen King wrote one for Nightmares and Dreamscapes that's included. 8mo
hgrimes @IamIamIam Wow! I‘ve always loved his Narnia illustrations that I grew up with, and never thought to seek out his other work. These are lovely. Thank you for sharing! 8mo
IamIamIam @hgrimes Sure thing!!! The Narnia illustrations are so gorgeous and whimsical! I loved Jumanji and Zathura as well but Harris Burdick has a very special place in my heart! ❤ 8mo

This story is about a boy named Shasta and a horse named Bree. They run to freedom together until it is necessary to fight for it. They meet friends along the way who aid in their quest to alarm the others about pending attacks.

Adventurous tale about friendship and defending your land. Pictures are black and white, and there are chapters describing what each chapter will be about.

Over the desert and through the gorge, to Narnia we go!

This time, our story has some new faces and places. It starts in the southern city of Tashbaan and takes us on quite the adventure- royal families, Talking Horses, daring adventures, and a huge change of scenery from the woodsy Narnia we all love!

I liked how this tied in to the Pevensie‘s story, but gave some more dimension to this world. Wonderfully descriptive writing!

Liking this one a lot more than I thought I would! I set low expectations once I realized it was an adventure outside of Narnia with new characters, but the writing in this book is so descriptive that it really feels like I‘m fully immersed in the adventure!

I think I need a vacation in the Southern March. 🙃

Continuing my #SeriesRead of the Chronicles of Narnia.

Started the 3rd story last night in print, but continuing it today on Libby. My #chunkster with all 7 books in one large volume is a bit too hefty to carry around work. 😬

This was the most enjoyable Narnia book for me so far - maybe because it‘s a story I didn‘t already know. It seems to be a little more in depth than the previous books which I liked a lot.

Up next in my quest to actually read The Chronicles of Narnia.

Karkar Are you reading them in publication order or story order? 11mo
KathyWheeler @Karkar I don‘t think I am. I‘d only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before. I have this book that‘s all of them in one. It starts with The Magician‘s Nephew, then LWW, and The Horse and His Boy is up next. 11mo
Karkar Then I think that is story order. That is how I read them. It gave a better understanding to the LWW and how it all started for me. 📚❤️ 11mo

I found myself losing interest in the middle of this book but the ending made up for it. Predictable but well written and had me grinning from ear to ear. Not to mention Lewis‘ humor is amazing and more than once found myself laughing out loud. 3/5⭐️

For the books that were said to be the ‘least enjoyable‘ of the series, I‘m having a great time reading them. This one was cute, fun, and tongue-in-cheek. Battles are fought, and lessons are learned. Lewis has a great cast of characters, and although his stories are simple in presentation, their impact is quite amazingly unforgettable.

My son and I have been talking about what books we're looking forward to introducing to his son, when the time is right, and The Chronicles of Narnia is high on both our lists.

Neither of us can choose a favorite but, at least today, this one is calling to me most.

This is, hands down, my absolute favorite book in the series. It has been since I first read it 15 years ago. The book on tape dramatization was top notch as well. This book takes place during the 4 great kings and Queens reign. (Before they stumble back through the wardrobe and become children again) It felt like CS Lewis wrote fanfiction for himself and loved it so much he published it. Every writers dream right?

After re-reading this book, I fell in love with it even more. What's weird about it was it made me cry. I really loved the part where Shasta was riding through the fog with Aslan beside him. It really struck a chord me and made me realize of God's love. The Narnia series will be one of the first books I will make my children read. This was really one of the best book in the series.
