The Lunar Chronicles: Cinder
The Lunar Chronicles: Cinder | Marissa Meyer
A forbidden romance. A deadly plague. Earth's fate hinges on one girl . . . CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation. Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future. This is not the fairytale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.

I finished Cinder, and I‘m due for a dose of dilaudid, so I‘m going to call my #24in48 there. It‘s been a trying one. As I may have mentioned once or twice, I was doing this one from a hospital bed and it is TOUGH to read when you‘re medicated, your blood sugar is too high or, worse, too low, and nurses keep interrupting you. I‘m quite proud that I managed twelve hours!

I‘m really bad at picking favorites, but I‘m working on a ya book right now, so I‘m going with that one! It‘s slow-going because I‘m listening instead of reading, so a book that might take me two hours is taking me ten. #24in48

I liked the world building, but the plot was very predictable and the "big reveals" were not shocking at all. The edition I have also has a lot of bonus material, so the ending was abrupt since there were so many pages left. I miiiight give the next one's a try.

ElizaMarie I was iffy about Cinder too. Currently listening to Scarlet... it‘s pretty good so far 6d

Kicking off the weekend. I told y'all I'd be reading more Marissa Meyer. The local library really pulled through! I got all 3 (main) books in the series!

stephothebesto @readingjedi it's pretty good! I love sour beers and am excited that they're trendy these days. This is the description on the can, which cracks me up: This German Gose is bright and frisky, tart and saline, and dances on the palate with punches of peach. Thirst quenching beyond all imagination, Peach Dodo is the finest of liquids for a beach picnic or for making history. 1w
stephothebesto @Shley9225 woops. I guess #4 got lost in the shuffle when I was checking on Goodreads. Thanks for letting me know. 1w

Today‘s #colormepretty is #redwhiteandblue!

Two of these are Marissa Meyer and that‘s gotta say something. The Lunar Chronicles are fantastic fairy tale retellings, and the Renegades series brings new life to superhero books.

The Raven Boys is, again, one of my favorite series. Please, if you like paranormal YA, read these books.

Caraval is far from one of my favorite books, but I‘ve been told the trilogy gets better. We‘ll see.

Happy July 4!

The story is definitely different than the Cinderella that we all know. It is also book one in a series so the ending is not happily ever after. You will have to continue with the series to find out what happens. Some parts were confusing but sometimes when I am reading, I have distractions that interfere so that may be why the story had confusing parts.

I've been aware of the existence of this series for years, but had thought it would be more of a love story. However, this retelling is so much more than that. There's a great sci-fi aspect, some decent world-building, good character development, political intrigue, and a touch of romance. I'm disappointed in myself for waiting so long to start this series, but I'm also excited I now have a few more books to read in the Lunar Chronicles.

JohannaRose This series is probably one of my favorites! The books can get pretty long but man I loved them! I‘m excited for you that you‘re getting to experience then for the first time! Happy reading 😃 2mo

If you love fairytales and fantasy then do yourself a favor and fantasy then pick this book up. But please bear in mind this is the first in a series and it finishes on a cliffhanger.

I am SUCH a sucker for twisted fairy tales! In this futuristic fairy tale, Cinder is a cyborg abused by her stepmother in New Beijing, while the earth is plagued by, well, a plague and imminent war. There was one twist near the end that I saw coming, but it didn‘t stop me from devouring the book in one day. I‘m eager to see how other fairy tales fit in this series (Scarlett retells Little Red Riding hood)!

A quick, enjoyable YA adaptation of Cinderella in a post-WWIV future with cyborgs. Meyer telegraphs her moves and “surprises” way too clearly and early on in the novel, but maybe the target reader wouldn‘t recognize all of them? It was an enjoyable read, regardless. It‘s a good thing I already have the rest of the books in the series.

Dude. This book was fun! Soft sci-fi Cinderella set after World War III in New Beijing, where Cinder is a cyborg due to a horrible accident and now she works as a mechanic. Then Prince Kai shows up with an secret-holding android needing to be fixed. And there‘s a plague. And a colony of telepaths/empaths on the moon whose queen is looking to gain control of Earth. I first saw this book on shelves years ago, saw the cover, read the blurb and thought "So a retelling of Cinderella as a robot? No thanks." and walked away. Dumb. A family member recommended it a few months ago so I opened myself up a little to the idea. I finally read it and.... this book is awesome! It hints enough to the original fairytale to be recognizable, but has some great new themes with a scifi twist. It's an enjoyable story.
