I just saw an ad for bookcon and realized I don't have enough time to plan a trip out. I've wanted to go for a couple years now but get thwarted every time 😣 Maybe next year I'll make it happen!

Librarything provided free passes to the ALA convention here in Seattle last weekend. I went, not intending to get any of the free books there would allegedly be available. Although I was fairly restrained, I still picked up the books pictured. Did I say they were FREE?

arubabookwoman Oh I live in Seattle, so I brought them home in my car. I could have gone back for 2 more days, and they apparently put new books out all the time. But since we‘re moving soon, and I already have such a huge TBR pile I refrained. I‘m most looking forward to the Marlantes, the Hanif, and the Jian. @charl08 5y

everlocalwest So sorry for ghosting! With two conferences and a family vacation coming up I've been crazy trying to tie lose ends at the shop. I don't know that we'll be able to make the meet up, I'm sorry to say! I'm not sure what days/times we will be going down and I'll be bringing my staff so organizing around them. I'm bummed to miss you guys!! 6y

LibrarianRyan I am not going to Book Con. However I am going to Book Expo. Have have been to Book Con before. For me it wasn't really worth it, but please remember I had just spent 3 days at Book Expo. If not for that I would Have loved it. If you live close and can afford the tickets you should go. But be sure to take Book money. Not very much was free at Book Con dearly discounted yes. Or the few free ones I had already received from Expo. 6y

MrBook @theresidentromantic Expo is for industry folks--publishers, librarians, booksellers, media people, bloggers, etc. The Con is for the general public. Expo is way better 😎👌🏻. Are you going? (edited) 6y

LibrarianRyan @theresidentromantic @MrBook is correct, you have to be in the industry to go to Expo. They let as many librarians in as register but they limit the number of blogger tickets for sale. When I went to Expo in Chicago there was about 7000 attendees. Con that was open to the public has 20,000 I remember reading. I took 4 teenagers and they had a great time! 6y

LibrarianRyan @SilversReviews Con is similar except the floor space is cut in half, the attendance triples, and you have to pay for more books than not. I enjoyed it but preferred Expo. I can't afford to do both this year unfortunately. 6y

MrBook @SilversReviews Okay ?. It's an app that has chat rooms you can set up. You can have "channels" for specific conversation topics, you can chat with someone 1-on-1 privately. You can also share pics and videos. 6y
