pickAfter reading two depressing mysteries (Magpie Murders and All the Missing girls—great novels; it‘s just very depressing on human beings) it is nice to see a happy ending (ish) here! Yes the humans here in this book have experienced much cruelty from other humans but I love how they evolve and grow.

pickThis is actually one of the books I am giving my #feedareader buddy! Just finished reading it last night and it‘s definitely dark but insightful. A lot of characters but yet the author successfully makes the story not overwhelming and the characters are all unique with flaws.

This quote of “so what if you are thirsty? Always be a river for everyone” resonated throughout the book and Khan and his family‘s life. They were definitely struggling and thirsty for a good deal of their lives but they were generous in helping others (through money, time, and love).

pickGot this book as part of a office secret Santa and glad I did! While the ending was somewhat predictable, the plot did have its twists. What I really enjoyed was the meticulous detective work; there was no violence, gunfights, etc. I won‘t even say this is a suspenseful book. It‘s more thought provoking

pickThis is Celeste Ng's second book and while I like her first book better, this is still a great book. I love how multidimensional the characters are and all have moral faults. The book is again strongly character driven; so the plot is a bit weak. But, with such a strong character development, that overshadows the weaker plot. Great book overall!
Those all important life questions that many have not answered completely!
so-soI wouldn't suggest buying this book, but just borrow it from the library. When I want to buy books, I look forward to rereading it or rereading sections. This one...while it was a bit of a page turner and of course touching and sad, I wish for a bit more depth into the characters, especially Vivian. I would really like a chapter of Vivian's voice.
I did appreciate more emphasis on the sibling and family dynamics
I have an extra "Modern Romance"; it's pretty funny and covers a lot of relevant dating topics in today's world. It's interesting how he meant to make this a sociological research but it reads more like a comedic memoir.. (with all the cursing and personal anecdotes)
