The Daisy Children: A Novel | Sofia Grant
10 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 30 to read
Inspired by true events, in Sofia Grants powerfully moving new novel a young woman peels back the layers of her familys history, discovering a tragedy in the past that explains so much of the present. This unforgettable story is one of hope, healing, and the discovery of truth. Sometimes the untold stories of the past are the ones we need to hear... When Katie Garrett gets the unexpected news that shes received an inheritance from the grandmother she hardly knew, it couldnt have come at a better time. She flees Bostonand her increasingly estranged husbandand travels to rural Texas. There, shes greeted by her distant cousin Scarlett. Friendly, flamboyant, eternally optimistic, Scarlett couldnt be more different from sensible Katie. And as they begin the task of sorting through their grandmothers possessions, they discover letters and photographs that uncover the hidden truths about their shared history, and the long-forgotten tragedy of the New London school explosion of 1937 that binds them. .

Historical fiction multi generational story. It was interesting to learn about the Texas school explosion. I did enjoy the modern day story line. However there were several unlikeable characters and I just didn‘t understand where they were coming from.

Reviewed Friday on the blog, paired with delicious Pimento Cheese Deviled Eggs (link to recipe👇🏻). I enjoyed this novel set in present day & the past, starting with a real-life tragedy of the New London School Explosion in Texas. Dual POVs & timelines, lots of family drama, secrets & dysfunctional mother-daughter relationships, a little mystery & romance too. Not all of the characters are likable-but they're sympathetic & the story absorbing.

Tamra Yum! Will check the eggs out! 6y
ValerieAndBooks Ooh, I love deviled eggs and will try this out! The characters‘ names in this novel makes me think of Katie Scarlett O‘Hara (her full name) in Gone With the Wind! Coincidence 🤔?? 6y
kyraleseberg Great review and the recipe sounds amazing! We have a ton of extra eggs since our hens have picked up this summer so I'll have to try this soon. 6y
UwannaPublishme Now I'm hungry for deviled eggs 😋 6y

Today's lunch and blog post was this vegan Red Curry Vegetable & Cauliflower Rice Soup with Crispy Hoisin-Sesame Tofu. Full of summer veggies & Cauliflower rice subbing in for regular rice, it is tasty on its own but even better with the flavorful Tofu 'croutons.' Link to recipe below. Paired here with this #ARC that I am about to start for a book tour review this coming Friday. 📚🍲😋

Although it started out slow with some unlikable characters, I actually ended up enjoying this story. It tells the story of multiple generations of women with the perspective switching from the past to the present revolving around the Texas New London School explosion, family secrets, & dysfunctional mother daughter relationships. There's also a little romance too. Available to buy on August 7, 2018

I received this in the mail yesterday from Goodreads! A woman travels to rural Texas after the death of her grandmother and she learns more about her history and about the New London School explosion and the Daisy Children.

Planning to start this one tonight!
