Happy June and Happy Summer! I showed my mom my #Bookspin #Doublespin, and she said she votes for number 18. I told her that‘s now how this works, but she REALLY wants me to read The Island of Sea Women 🤣.

First, I want to say how gorgeous is this wrapping? 😍
Second, thank you so much for the chocolate & book @Mrs_B - it's my favourite brand of chocolate!
Thirdly, I have never heard of the book, but it sounds right up my alley - murder, witchcraft, sapphic romance, and historical - yes, please!
Thanks, @MaleficentBookDragon, for organising #jolabokaflodswap again this year!
Conflicted. If you like witch stories & slow build sapphic romance, you may love this story!
I received this in a sub box. I jumped in with no knowledge.
Not a fan of witch stories or romance. I didn‘t connect with the characters. I‘m not the target audience for this story.
Anne‘s dad died. She goes to close his estate. She meets witches & the story takes off with forbidden magic, love & murder. Well written just not my cup of tea.

And this is me with Francesca May.
1920s. Gothic. Sapphic. Witches. Sold and SOLD!!!
A slow burn sapphic fantasy with spooky, witchy flavor. A heavy Gatsby-ish feel to the atmosphere & the locale & a plot semi-reminiscent of Practical Magic, though definitely darker. The pacing is slow & I struggled with getting immersed in the story, but there was some decent suspense. The characters are not necessarily likable, so this may be a reader turn off. The world & magic system were was both intriguing & original. A good, creative debut.
I don‘t know what to write in this review.
On second thought, this is untrue, I could write page after page after page about this book. But I‘ll settle for this: This book is exactly what I needed right now and I absolutely love everything about it, the characters, the plot, the writing style; it couldn‘t be more perfect.

If I wish to fly through the air, I am free from my weight.
I stand on my tiptoes so I can press my lips to hers, a kiss so effortless it is like magic—no, better.
Regardless of the rain, of the harbour winds, of the discomfort of the streets of my childhood closing in around me, I finally feel like I‘m home.
“People die all the time because of decisions other people make,” I said. “That‘s not magic‘s fault. It‘s ours. We have to learn. We have to do better. We can do better.”
“So really, love, what is it you want?”
(…)
“You,” I blurted. “I want you.”
We were the witches of Cross House. The unspoken rulers of Crow Island. We sold desires, traded in dreams; we gave people what they wanted, regardless of what they needed. Nathan, Isobel and I were royalty—untouched by the law.
It was all a lie.
I went on holiday and haven‘t read further in this book for a while but the name of this part has me intrigued as ever! Also slightly terrified.
Our fates had been tied together since the first moment we met—because, magic or not, I had never wanted anyone or anything other than her.
Just a glance from Emmeline and I wasn‘t myself.
Or maybe I was more myself than I‘d ever been.
“I know.” I didn‘t know what else to say. There was nothing I could find that might help. I know—that had always been our code. It meant: I understand. I forgive you. I love you. I‘m sorry.
I‘ll do it for you. Trade my love for his. My blood for his.
It must be magic—there was no other explanation. Why else would I be so lost in her presence while feeling so whole?
Before you were only a mouse. Now you are growing fangs.
She had bewitched me by some magic, some witchcraft; I hadn‘t been myself since I‘d met her.
“You can‘t control the world, dearest,” she said. “You can‘t think for us, and communication is a two-way street. I know we don‘t always agree, but that‘s what it‘s like, to have a family. We understand each other even when we don‘t.”
This girl… Whoever she is, she has a darkness inside her and it glitters like broken glass.
I was debating which book to read and I‘m already sure I‘ve chosen a great one.
“Just a glance at Emmeline and I wasn‘t myself. Or maybe I was more myself than I‘d ever been.”

My April Goldsboro book arrived and I'm already in love! 😍📖❤️ That cover! Those shimmery gold edges! And the story itself is a queer fantasy set in the 1920's - I'm so excited to read it! #bookmail #goldsboro #goldsborobooks
Apparently I only get books when it rains … I randomly looked out the door & there‘s GSFF! Another bookstore that loves bubble wrap! 🎉
This book has stunning metallic gold edges. Signed & numbered. This is also on my TBR!! Looks great!!
