Third in his Rivers of London series. I liked it a little less than the first two. I don't know if it's because the plot was all over the place with no real villain or if the pace was off. It just felt like it was slightly off course for a Peter Grant novel.
Second time around I liked it more. Insights of the next books makes it better. Also, i enjoyed the architecture bits so much this time. #booked2019 #POCparanormal #fall

Cinfhen Nice choice!! I‘ve heard good things about this series 3w

Some have compared this to HP, but I don‘t think that gives justice to this unputdownable #OwnVoices YA book that veers away from the Euro-Centric elements common in the fantasy genre. Sunny is a great heroine, and I‘m diving right into the sequel!

Okorafor places the Akata series as #africanjujuism, a sub genre of fantasy. I definitely want to delve more into this sub genre!

Not bad, but not for me. The writing is beautiful, and the story is important, but the combination of the fantasy elements, and the vast number of different characters to keep straight, really made it difficult for me to follow this book. I also felt that the pacing was slow. Nonetheless, if you are a fan of this era historical fiction, and/or magical realism, this book is definitely for you. #booked2019 #POCParanormal

marleed I was on a 6 month library hold for this book yesterday but overnight they purchased 32 copies (the power of Oprah bookclub picks) so now it‘s available soon. I‘m not sure my head is in the right space for this right now so I suspended my hold for 90 days. 2mo

A good read 👍🏻 Marriages are full of secrets aren‘t they, big and little. Joe is a first class arse though isn‘t he.

Summer done - now I need ideas about POC/MC paranormal and public domain my remaining ones.

Cinfhen I “enjoyed” the movie but couldn‘t read through the book! Glad u enjoyed!!! For MC Paranormal I read 3mo
Cinfhen And any book on @SerialReader app is #PublicDomain 3mo
TrishB @Cinfhen it was a quick read so I didn‘t dwell on my annoyance! I‘ve read Kindred already and liked. Do you have to download serial reader to see what‘s on it? I‘ll search #publicdomain and have a look. Thanks 😘 3mo

Cinfhen Serial app is free as are all the books but u have to download the app 3mo
Cinfhen For public domain I choose 3mo
TrishB @Cinfhen thanks - I may have a look at serial app. Aww Little Women, I could read again as it was so long ago I‘ve probably forgotten everything.... 3mo
Cinfhen I loved it!! I had never read the whole book before. 3mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage You can always search the #pocparanormal hashtag. And here‘s a list from GR. Not all are paranormal, but a lot are. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/11395.Non_Caucasian_Protagonists_in_Science_... 3mo
TrishB @BarbaraTheBibliophage thanks 👍🏻 I‘ve checked the hashtag and not been inspired as yet (or read) I‘ll have a look at the GR list - I‘m not desperate yet 😁 3mo
Reggie I‘m shocked you read this!!! I‘m so glad you liked it, though. Yeah, the husband was such an a-Hole and I just felt so bad for the kids because subconsciously, they knew he was a prick. Also, its never too late to take a step in the right direction. 3mo
TrishB @Reggie it was a gift and I try to always read gifts 😁 I think you need to do a positivity post for me every day to turn my thinking around!! I thought what a waste of your life and you thought it‘s never too late, I need more of that thinking! 3mo
Reggie 3 years ago, I picked my Grandma up so she could stay with us for a week. The drive was 4 hours. When we left her house her new husband was so cute telling her bye and then he called an hour into the ride asking if she was ok. She talked him up so much saying he was the best husband she ever had. I said gah grandma what about grandpa? She told me that when they were younger, she would stay home and watch the kids at night and he would take off👇🏼 3mo
Reggie take off to the bar. She said, “Do you know how embarrassing it is to have your comadres (woman friend) call you the next day asking you where you were last night because compadre was here, dancing with a woman. She told me that when they worked the farm for a rancher she caught him more than once with another woman in the barn. That my mother and her siblings have a half brother they don‘t know that exist in a town an hour away. That even 👇🏼 3mo
Reggie though he was a good dad and a great grandfather, he wasn‘t the best husband. I never told my mother or anyone else that story. Lies, I told my brother. But we‘ve never told anyone in the family. I think about my grandmother and how she had an 8th grade education and what options there were for her out there. She had almost none. When he passed away she started living for herself. I see a little bit of her in Joan. Sorry for the long story. 3mo
TrishB @Reggie thank you for sharing. My mum had similar in that my dad just treated her like part of the home furniture and I had to accept my Dad was a good dad but a lousy husband!! She remarried 10 years after he died and had 3 years of being treated like number one. You‘re right - it‘s never too late and I wish your Grandma many happy years of being treated like a princess ❤️❤️ 3mo
Reggie ❤️❤️ 3mo
Cathythoughts Oh I read this one too for #booktomovie 👍🏻 I thought it was great 3mo
TrishB @Cathythoughts did you watch the film too? 3mo
Cathythoughts I didn‘t see the movie ... sinse I joined Litsy I never watch telly anymore .. only if a match is on I want to see . Did you ? 3mo
TrishB @Cathythoughts I‘ve never really watched telly (except the match like you!) so I haven‘t seen. Most films I have watched are generally when the kids have made me 😁 Charlotte made me watch Captain Marvel this week as she said it‘s the feminist film of the year! It was good fun and feminist 😁 3mo
Cathythoughts That sounds like fun ! I‘d watch a movie with my daughters too when they are home or maybe a cartoon with my granddaughter... but otherwise I‘d rather be reading. I hope you feel better & have a lovely lunch with your friend X 3mo
TrishB @Cathythoughts thank you 😘 3mo
Reggie @TrishB I‘m just throwing this out there but I think you would love this book. Not cause you need therapy but cause there‘s a little correlation of what was said here. Just have tissues handy. 3mo
TrishB @Reggie thanks Reggie- self help books are my worst nightmare so I have pretty much avoided this! But you never know, if an offer appears 😁❤️ 3mo

Great book! I love a good villian retelling, especially when I'm both angry at the main character and still somehow rooting for her at the same time. Xifeng is infuriatingly flawed in this Evil Queen (Snow White) retelling set in a fantasy kingdom inspired by Asian culture.

#fairytaleretelling for #Booked2019 . It could also work for #POCparanormal if anyone is working on the autumn prompts. I'll probably use the second one for that.

StephanieMarie Also either a book you meant to read in 2018 or #debutnovel for #pop19 I haven't decided which. 8mo
Cinfhen Lots of options 😍 8mo
StephanieMarie @Cinfhen yeah for sure! It fits more for popsugar too those are just the two I'm deciding between. 8mo

5 ⭐
This is so great. I love this world that Okorafor has created. This book is captivating, the characters endearing. Again, because there's so much world building, there isn't much of a plot and it resolves very quickly, but it's still a great story.

This is my #PoCparanormal pick for #booked2019

One of the best sci fi books I‘ve ever read. So well thought out and meaningful. Every few minutes I was like ‘wow a time travel book can make me think about THAT‘. Rufus was deeply disturbing and frustrating, but that‘s more a fault of history than the book, he was sadly realistic. My one criticism is that the white peoples accents sounded really odd to me in the audio, but maybe I just don‘t know these types of American accents.

Cinfhen Hoping to read this book next year for #Booked2019 reading challenge 11mo
Emilymdxn @Cinfhen ooh what prompt? 11mo
Cinfhen #PocParanormal does that work??? 11mo

Texreader Great book! 12mo
arlenefinnigan Would definitely work for #PoCParanormal, I read it for the #ReadHarder challenge of a sci-fi novel by a female author with a female protagonist. Loved it. 12mo
CoffeeAndABook Both the book & the bookmark are so *pretty* 🎀 I‘m sipping my morning coffee ☕️ & sending you a smile 😊 hope it‘s a good day 😘 12mo
Cinfhen I‘m really shocked @GatheringBooks it usually takes a solid month and that‘s if I‘m lucky!!! It‘s mind blowing how fast this one arrived!!!!! 12mo
Cinfhen You‘re not mean @TrishB you‘re smart!!! Now I‘m just pissed at my friend because she‘s insisting she returned it!! 🤬🤬😡#NotTrue 12mo
Cinfhen Hi @CoffeeAndABook I‘m good!! How are you??? Jet lagged ??? And thanks for the morning smile 🥰🥰🥰 12mo
Cinfhen The flip side of the bookmark says please share with a friend and it has a space to write a friend‘s name with a message!!! But it‘s too cute to share @TrishB @Velvetfur @Texreader 💕💕now who‘s the mean one??? 12mo
Cinfhen I was hoping someone would say this works for #Paranormal 🙌🏻💕 thanks @arlenefinnigan 💚💚💚 12mo
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen Yep, im STILL jet lagged, even after a week 🙄 why does it take so long? But the trip was worth it!! And being in Germany in December is one of my secret pleasures, dark, cold, wet & cozy & christmassy 🔥🌟📖☕️ ⬅️ this is supposed to be hot spiced wine 😉 So I‘m fine 🤩 12mo
Cinfhen Jet lag can take up to 2 weeks @CoffeeAndABook so just go with it!!! Glad you had an awesome time 💕 12mo
LauraBeth If this fits, I may read it as well! 12mo
4thhouseontheleft Definitely a 👍🏾👍🏾 for #PoCParanormal! 12mo
ElishaLovesBooks I read this and remember loving it! I think I want to reread it! 12mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage I was going to say it‘s more #genrebusting than #paranormal. Because to me, paranormal is more creatures and beings than time travel. But it‘s a fine line, and I‘d say go with the majority opinion. I hope you enjoy it! 😘 12mo
LibrarianJen I agree with @BarbaraTheBibliophage I think it‘s more genre busting. The book is about so much more than time travel. It could also be about civil rights, slavery, women‘s rights, historical fiction, etc. I feel you can‘t box it into one category. 12mo
saresmoore Less than a week?! That‘s gotta be a record! 12mo
erzascarletbookgasm Yay! My orders take between 6 and 8 weeks! Sometimes I forget what I ordered and when my books arrive, it‘s like surprise bookmail! 12mo
Cinfhen I know!!! I was shocked @erzascarletbookgasm @saresmoore but a book I ordered like 3 weeks ago still hasn‘t arrived yet 🤷‍♀️ 12mo
Cinfhen Lots of different opinions @LauraBeth so I‘ll read it and decide later on what prompt to use it for!!! I like having options @LibrarianJen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @ElishaLovesBooks if you read it again that would work for #pop19 too!!! (edited) 12mo
kellyann28 Jotted this down for planning my #Booked2019 list. Thanks ;) 12mo
Cinfhen My pleasure @kellyann28 😃 12mo
Reviewsbylola This is a fun one. I‘ve not seen this cover before! 11mo

Reviewsbylola Wait @Reggie has a podcast?! 11mo
Cinfhen No! I wish @Reviewsbylola 🥰🥰🥰 @Reggie was a guest on I think @ReadingEnvy last year 11mo
ReadingEnvy Such a good book. Reggie hasnt been a full guest yet (he's on the calendar now!) But maybe he mentioned it for best of 2017! 11mo
