I had a blast reading this book! It was funny, sarcastic and truly charming. Henry Tilney is just as swoon-worthy as Mr. Darcy, if not a tad more (gasp!) 😍

Cinfhen How many issues was this one??? I‘m always put off when I see a large number 😜 3d
Jovy @cinfhen This was actually shorter than most - 30 issues! 3d

A classic from the #1001books list. Really short but I didn't manage to finish it. I think it is supposed to be a kind of classic soap novel but I really couldn't keep track of all the character. Sometimes it seemed as if in every other sentence a new character was introduced or mentioned. Not for me!

#Booked2019 #PublicDomain

Cathythoughts I‘m useless with loads of characters ... can‘t keep track at all 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w

Enjoying this atmospheric tale with a delicious cup of David‘s organic serenity tea compliments of the fabulous @LeahBergen ( today‘s birthday girl 💓🎂💋) Having read Haunting of Hill House earlier this month, I think I‘m already more engrossed with Bram Stoker‘s story. #Booked2019 Thankyou #publicdomain My last book in my first book challenge. A reread , a brilliant story. I remember now what I loved , it is the study of contradictions - of what it means to be human - that I learned so much from. Based on Gauguin & how art “ heightens the poignancy that all beauty has“ sensual & spiritual.I‘m blown away by this one. This challenge had me revisiting 2 books I might never have read again 💔 challenge done ✅ 💃🏾

Cathythoughts Loved this challenge!! So glad I completed it. 👍🏻. Next up ... #booked2020 (edited) 3w

That's over. I feel unfair reviewing a book that was absolutely sensational in 1895 by today's standards and my own preference. I can see how this was an amazing book in its time. I'm just not into the classics. #Booked2019 #Autumn #PublicDomain

Cinfhen Sorry we tortured you 😜 4w
IamIamIam @Cinfhen It's okay! It's not like I chose to read Ulysses or anything!!! 😂😂 This was kind of like a literary mammogram. It's kind of annoying and painful but you can deal with it and maybe treat yourself to ice cream afterwards. LMAO 4w
IamIamIam @Cinfhen And I totally could have skipped it but I love you guys too much to do that!!! LOL 💜 4w

I think I'm just not made for books that were written before 1940. Guy goes 800,000 years into the future, there are cute people, his machine is missing and he has a tantrum. I think that's the gist so far. It feels like I'm listening to this in a foreign language... 🤨😖😴
#Booked2019 #PublicDomain

AthenaWins Ha! Yes. And it's usually super dry. I read From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne and man I'm glad that was a short one. I'm happy I read it, but it was a struggle. 4w
Cinfhen I feel your pain!!! Although I did enjoy 4w
IamIamIam @AthenaWins I'm totally zoning out and when I snap back, I'm so confused! Haha! 4w
IamIamIam @Cinfhen I had a hard time with that also but I think that's because everyone was so prissy... LOL, I read half of it and there was too much fretting for me! I know there was a war on and I was probably just being insensitive but... you know... LOL, I am in the middle of Monte Cristo in Serial Reader but the wait for the audio is, like, 3 months! 😖 4w

Finished this purple chunkster in the car (on audio) this morning, and what a ride it has been! Thanks for sending it to me @BarbaraBB 🙌 I loved experiencing the story unfold, and being sucked into the drama and intrigue. I wish Marianne had narrated more of the story, because I loved her voice, and some of the male characters got a bit too sexist (I know it is a product of its time, but it is annoying to read, still).

jillrhudy One of my very very favorites 1mo
ferskner I think that's something Collins is commenting on - men telling women's stories for them. At least that's how I read it, since he was pretty ahead of his time as a feminist. It adds an amazing layer to an already incredible book! 1mo

I didn‘t care for this. I found it wordy and difficult to read. It‘s presented as a story within a story, but then it never goes back to the first story which I thought was a strange choice. The narrator goes on and on about how beautiful the children are to an excessive degree that got really old really fast. And not much else happened. Maybe I‘m just missing something, but I don‘t think this was for me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

#booked2019 #publicdomain

Scochrane26 I think that‘s just how Henry James writes. I‘ve read What Maisie Knew, which I liked, but it was very wordy & confusing at times. 1mo

This book filled #translatedbookpublishedbefore1945 for #readingwomenchallenge and #publicdomain for #booked2019. My daughter loved the Netflix series based on this book a few years ago but I‘d never read the whole story. Absolutely charming characters and a sweet, happy story about the power of kindness and forgiveness. Loved it.
