My selection of books to read for #transrightsreadathon starting today. For every book read, I will donate £5 to my chosen organisation, Mermaids. This amazing charity supports children and YA.

https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/

I will commit to reading after the 27th to increase my knowledge of trans rights and life.

#transrights #transrightarehumanrights #bookstagramuk #bookstagram #tbrlist #knowledgeispower

AllDebooks I have no experience in this area. Ignorance is a dangerous thing. To be able to fully support trans people, I must be more aware of the issues.

And no, this doesn‘t violate the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects citizens from censorship by the government. Twitter is a private company enforcing its terms of use.

jessjess It's about time. Long past overdue actually 3y
ravenlee About f#*^ing time. 3y
Bookgoil I hear it‘s all social media even Twitch and MySpace 3y
Kimberlone Makes me laugh to think about how pissed off he must be. 3y
TheBookDream 👍👏👏👏👏🙌 3y
ncsufoxes About freakin time. Now he‘s trying to go on the POTUS account to post & they‘ve shut him down too. But 4 years too late 3y
AlaMich Whatever will he do with all his free time now? Since Presidenting isn‘t really to his liking. 3y
TheRiehlDeal @AlaMich He'll probably watch Fox News. Or golf. 3y
bookishbitch @AlaMich Well we all know he won't be reading any books. 🙄 3y
SconsinBookyBadger 45 is on Parler for now. Google Play removed the app from its store and Apple has given executives a 24 hour ultimatum to moderate the platform. 3y
Chrissyreadit It‘s about friggen time. But I‘m glad it happened. Now if only we could remove Cruz and hawley from congress... 3y
BarbaraBB @AlaMich He seems to have had a lot of free time during the last four years too 😉 3y
Crazeedi @EadieB 👏👏💗💗 3y
Bookwomble @EadieB Ignoring Trump's facism isn't going to make any place safe. 3y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Bookgoil I didn‘t know MySpace still existed 🤣🤣🤣 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB litsy is very positive. And educational. And a place for minds to grow with knowledge. This is history in the making and will be written about in books that will be out next year. I‘m glad to be in a space where truth is vital - and it‘s easy to scroll by or unfollow if someone does not like it. Maybe your definition of positive is different from mine - but I find interacting with educators and librarians and activists incredibly positive 3y
Chrissyreadit For the record- in case anyone did not know this about me- I consider democracy to be a verb- and discussions as well as criticism of leadership to be a civic duty and moral imperative. Especially when that person or persons are dangerous and demonstrating authoritarian and fascist behavior. READING taught me this! The best place to feel engaged are places where other well read people can participate in the discussion. I believe 45‘s misuse of 3y
Elizabeth2 @EadieB 👏💕 Thanks for that link! Love that! Love you! 3y
Chrissyreadit Social media is well documented in books and articles. Feel free to share any reading resources about that with me at any time. I love political, historical and non fiction books! And consider it Very Positive! #knowledgeispower @EadieB 3y
bookishbitch @EadieB So we should all just ignore treason in our country and "get along" to keep everything more positive and comfortable for you? Wow. That comment is privilege in action. Ignoring history doesn't make it "go away". And as a veteran I am ashamed to have had a president, and followers, that has acted this way against our country. (For so long, not just this latest bs.) You can always take your delicate sensibilities and scroll on by. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB no I consider litsy to be a very appropriate place for all discussion that includes Reading of any kind. Knowledge is power. Censorship is NEVER positive. Criticism of people in power is a vital democratic right. Education via information, satire, words and imagery to convey information is a gift. Do not tell people to go into hiding over their political beliefs. Thank you @BookishMarginalia for this post and @TheBookHippie @Soubhiville 👇 3y
Chrissyreadit ☝️@exbrarian @Susanita @Christine @rachelsbrittain @bookwombie @jessjess @ravenlee @Bookgoil @Kimberlone @TheBookDream @ncsufoxes @AlaMich @TheRiehlDeal @bookishbitch @AnansiGirl @BarbaraBB for your participation and contribution to a thread that does not tolerate ignorance and celebrates accountability for heinous acts. ❤️❤️❤️ 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB discussion of politics and religion is also educational and informative. @ChasingOm and Emily Dixon created diversify your shelf to highlight the vital importance of expanding views and awareness. @Chelleo has Blitsyswap to highlight the vital contributions of Black authors and Black Culture - all include politics and religion. 3y
bookishbitch @EadieB You want consideration for others? That is rich. People have died because of what 45 has done and his lack of consideration for others. You don't have to participate in the discussions. You can scroll past or unfollow people who are political. You can continue to live in your hole of denial. Don't tell us how to have consideration of others. I am considering those who are victims of 45 and his thugs. Are deliberately being obtuse? 3y
BookishMarginalia @EadieB @bookishbitch Good morning, Eadie! I‘m not sure which deaths and burning cities you are referring to. Could you point me to a source so I can educate myself? This is what I found when I researched the issue: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/06/22/who-caus... 3y
bookishbitch @EadieB And there we have it folks. Another conspiracy theorist who has drunk the kool-aid of the cult of 45. I am finished with this discussion because it is futile. Stop tagging me please. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB in fact my brother lives and works in Portland Oregon and could not figure out how the lies were being spread as he observed a mob attack being claimed where he was currently standing and buying food! It was very eye opening about the lies In Real Time! 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB and yet I shared my brothers lived experience above. Here‘s what‘s disturbing- an armed insurrection was provoked by the president to stop democracy in action. People died. Police were filmed actively helping the terrorists break into the Capitol, meanwhile over 4,000 people a day died from a virus and there has been ineffective handling of the vaccine roll out. So I‘m not sure how any thing other than that is offensive. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB and by actively engaging in discussion and information people can get a clear perspective of events and impact. Thank goodness litsy is a place for information and sources and interactions that recognize the fragility of democracy and vitality of diversity. It‘s like a bookstore - has everything plus a little cafe as well where people gather to talk- and just like a bookstore that sells games, funkos, toys litsy shares feelings + ideas ❤️ 3y
Bookwomble @EadieB Oh, Eadie, you don't get to dictate what I post and where ? "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Your insistence that nobody on Litsy should criticise the crimes of Trump is an evil of either omission, apathy or tacit complicity. I've no interest in debating it further. 3y
Elizabeth2 @Chrissyreadit I have a story too. My son works at a local retail establishment and was handed a flash bang shell on Thursday. The guy who handed it to him got it at the Capitol. He hates Trump and is a complete anti government Antifa nut. My son asked him what he was doing there if he hates Trump. He said he had to be there to be a part of the chaos. The groups he‘s in on social media all had plans to go and create chaos. “It‘s what we do.” 3y
Chrissyreadit @Elizabeth2 I‘m sorry that happened to your son. I am confused by the anti govt- that is typically a conservative “limit govt” and right wing approach, and antifa- that is against fascist govt. it sounds like a right wing anarchistic approached your son with a dangerous weapon he obtained from the right wing terrorists who invaded our Congress, after encouragement to conduct a coup by an authoritarian president. I‘m glad he is safe and hope this 3y
Chrissyreadit @Elizabeth2 helped highlight the importance of having an effective leader who does not incite mob violence. 3y
Bookgoil @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I believe Justin Timberlake bought MySpace at some point 😂 3y
ravenlee @EadieB please learn how to scroll. I have no further need to engage with you on this subject. 3y
ravenlee @Chrissyreadit thank you for your eloquence. 3y
Christine Thanks for the tag, @Chrissyreadit, and for your thoughtful engagement here. I love what a positive place Litsy is. Reading is inextricably linked to a passion for social justice for me. I appreciate how here on Litsy we can follow whomever we choose, and I tend not to follow those whose reading tastes or styles of posting don‘t appeal to me. I still see posts that don‘t appeal to me, so then I keep scrolling. ❤️ 3y
jessjess @Chrissyreadit I was asleep until now (it's 9:30 am my time) but I wanted to say thank you not only for your excellent points here, but also for carrying this discussion in general. It's incredibly privileged to think we can divorce the comfort and activity of reading from political discussion, especially when reading has always been a political act. 3y
eri.reads I also agree...4 years too late, but at least it has finally happened. Thank you @Chrissyreadit for standing up for democracy and not shying away from bullies. ❤️ 3y
eri.reads @EadieB Not calling anyone out Eadie. Simply a general statement. I don't think I've read any hatred here in these comments. I, for one, definitely don't hate the President. I do; however, disagree with many of the tactics and comments he's shared over the years just as many have those same views of Obama or Biden. I believe we should be able to peacefully debate these situations bc w/out the voice of debate we'd have no democracy. 3y
eri.reads @EadieB Yes that one is not nice or appropriate. I think some people have a tendency to lash out rn instead of calmly trying to keep things at a level where all can discuss. Everyone is feeling strained these days. Hopefully we, as Americans, can all get back to some semblance of unity and peace in the days/years to come. I have some great friends who are Trump supporters...that doesn't mean I disown them. We just need to find our balance again. 3y
eri.reads @EadieB You too Eadie, thank you! 3y
staci.reads @Chrissyreadit I agree wholeheartedly about the need for discourse and shake my head in wonder at people, especially readers, who don't want to engage in anything that feels "political." Our nation only works if citizens actively discuss, debate, and LEARN about the world around them. I applaud you for your convictions. Shame on any of us who haven't spoken up enough! That's how we got to this point. 3y
jessjess @staci.reads agreed. Litsy needs to have an "edit comment" action as I accidentally pressed enter before I was done! ? 3y
jessjess @staci.reads what I was going to say was that I agree with you. Discourse is what helps us become better educated, more aware and less willing to hold onto our views. 3y
Susanita @staci.reads I agree discourse is important. While there‘s no point IMHO in continuing to rehash the 2020 election we can move on with civility to whatever foolishness comes next. BUT the day anyone tells me what I can and cannot post on Litsy is the day I stop posting on Litsy. Just move on if you don‘t like it! 3y
SconsinBookyBadger Thank you @Chrissyreadit for the tag and carrying the majority of the discussion on your shoulders. ❤️ 3y
ncsufoxes The automatic need to blame another organization for what happened over the summer is following a false narrative and shows white privilege. The uncomfortableness people feel and the defensiveness are important feelings. They are important because if you take that feeling and grapple with it. It is hard to deal with those feelings but it‘s a moment of learning. Committing to being better and learning from others is more productive. 3y
ncsufoxes Thank you @chrissy for your continued vigilance and insight. As mentioned @ChasingOm has provided lots of great resources with #integrateyourbookshelf. I don‘t know everything but I continue to read and commit myself to becoming an anti racist. Robin DiAngelo‘s book White Fragility is a great way to start. Defensiveness is a hallmark of white fragility and privilege. 3y
Chrissyreadit @ncsufoxes I completely agree about Defensiveness 3y
jessjess @EadieB The reason you get such negative responses is because President Trump has, by his words, actions and policies, continued to double-down on marginalizing people. People are experiencing real-world impact and harm, not the hurt of white fragility or your feelings. To quote the words you slung at BookBitch, Trump has been a prime example of : “Your hatred has done nothing but made you a mean and nasty person.“ 3y
jessjess @ncsufoxes agree with your comment re: defensiveness. 3y
AmberWB @eadieB Being able to say that you “don‘t agree with your white privilege stuff” is a perfect example of white privilege. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB then unfortunately we will never agree. I recognize white privilege and systemic oppression and racism has a foundational problem along with voter suppression and income inequality. 3y
Chrissyreadit @AmberWB I would completely agree with you. 3y
AmberWB @EadieB White privilege is not making yourself feel inadequate. Additionally, someone can be an amazing person with a wonderful heart and still benefit from privilege. This is an excellent, brief explanation of white privilege that I think everyone can benefit from watching. https://youtu.be/vbPJfxRYmCg (edited) 3y
BookishMarginalia @EadieB I think I might not know enough about the issue because I just don‘t understand how acknowledging that there are systemic imbalances in our society leads to socialism. Being white and being wealthy opens doors and makes life easier; that‘s what privilege is. I don‘t think acknowledging that is nonsense; I think it‘s being honest. I know I have advantages I did not earn just because I was born to a family of means. That‘s just a fact. 3y
BookishMarginalia @EadieB @Chrissyreadit I agree with Eadie about not needing to agree about the issues in order to be friends and to enjoy reading together. That‘s the beauty of Litsy! 💜 In fact, when I feel less anxious, I might embark on a #PairedReading of White Fragility AND The Myth of White Fragility, just to see the different perspectives. (edited) 3y
BookishMarginalia @EadieB I feel very confident in stating that one thing we can all agree on here is that anyone who engages in rioting, looting, arson, murder, or insurrection should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Extremists from the far right AND the far left who use violence should always be condemned. 3y
SconsinBookyBadger @BookishMarginalia I like your idea of #pairedreading. As I was scrolling through the comments before I read yours the same thought entered my mind to check out books with opposite perspectives. I‘ll be looking into that myself when I‘m done at my job tonight. 3y
riversong153 Whew this thread has been enlightening. That is all. 3y
IMASLOWREADER 4years too late but it‘s progress to something positive i guess 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB @BookishMarginalia @AnansiGirl I need to consider my words deeply. At the moment I do not want to waste time on false narratives that continue to support systemic oppression. I have witnessed, and lived in places where it is blatant and observable. I did not need any books or media to inform me to know this is true. Do people really believe the majority of criminal activity is committed because people are black? That people “choose” 3y
Chrissyreadit To be uneducated and under work? Please!!! Feel free to have a conversation with me about going to an inner city school. My husband also spent 13 years in the Marine Corp and came out with Severe PTSD and works hard for his money but we are still struggling. I work hard too. I work as a counselor for children who experience open racism some clearly would not believe. My role will always be to advocate for equality, safety, health and education. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB I‘m confused I thought you indicated white privilege did not exist. I‘m very interested in seeing what happens, especially in police reform and voter suppression. 3y
Chrissyreadit @EadieB still not sure what your point is. That we need reform? Yes. Because of gerrymandering and income inequality? Yes. 3y
SconsinBookyBadger @Chrissyreadit I truly support your perspective and believe in the same causes as you do. I‘m sorry you‘re carrying the brunt of the conversation throughout this. My point of researching other people‘s perspectives on issues important to me is to challenge myself and help myself debate and carry on a conversation with people of opposite views. ⬇️ (edited) 3y
SconsinBookyBadger I haven‘t challenged myself enough for several years and often find myself struggling to hold a conversation in real life with someone with opposing views. This is strictly for educational purposes to help me take a firmer stand and be more vocal with social justice causes I believe in. 3y
Chrissyreadit @AnansiGirl I am not judging, just indicating I do not have a desire to engage in books that present lies as truth. I‘m grateful when people work to support people. 😘 3y

This is definitely a #herecomesthesun to save the day kind of vampire short story. In it, Kristen thinks “I can‘t believe #howfarIllgo.” She‘s a librarian, who after a vampire kills her boyfriend on a secluded mountain late into the day, has to spend the night in a dead elk carcass for warmth on some rocks in the middle of a stream. Side note: did you guys know vampires can‘t cross water? I had no idea. #MayMovieMagic #BeatleMaynia

Cinfhen Really??? Like the Wicked Witch of the West??? #WaterIsMyNemesis 5y
Reggie @Cinfhen I looked it up on the internet, because you know it never lies, but it says that beside sunlight, water in motion is the only other natural vampire killer. Who knew! #vampiresoflitsy are probably pissed about this post. (edited) 5y

RohitSawant This was one of my faves from the collection! 5y
RohitSawant Have you read "Paper Cuts," "Shadow and Thirst" and "We are all Monsters here" yet? Those ones really stayed with me. Can't wait to read your review of this. Speaking of, I should get around to reviewing it myself ? 5y
Reggie @rohit-sawant I‘m up to We are all Monsters here right now, but honestly I‘ve liked all of them except for the firefly interpretation and even then Seanan McGuire still writes the most beautiful 2 paragraph metaphor about the real impending storm and the one we all go through with puberty. Anyways, yeah, Paper Cuts was good. Vampires as books, with a Nazi intersection. It was pretty good. This book is definitely scratching an itch. 5y
