After several false starts, I‘m going to give #AmericanDirt another go. If for no other reason but to form my own opinion. But I do have some #LatinxAuthors on deck for clarity and balance. Always looking for additional recommendations, please. #KnowledgeIsPower

This is definitely a #herecomesthesun to save the day kind of vampire short story. In it, Kristen thinks “I can‘t believe #howfarIllgo.” She‘s a librarian, who after a vampire kills her boyfriend on a secluded mountain late into the day, has to spend the night in a dead elk carcass for warmth on some rocks in the middle of a stream. Side note: did you guys know vampires can‘t cross water? I had no idea. #MayMovieMagic #BeatleMaynia

Cinfhen Really??? Like the Wicked Witch of the West??? #WaterIsMyNemesis 10mo
Reggie @Cinfhen I looked it up on the internet, because you know it never lies, but it says that beside sunlight, water in motion is the only other natural vampire killer. Who knew! #vampiresoflitsy are probably pissed about this post. (edited) 10mo

rohit-sawant This was one of my faves from the collection! 10mo
rohit-sawant Have you read "Paper Cuts," "Shadow and Thirst" and "We are all Monsters here" yet? Those ones really stayed with me. Can't wait to read your review of this. Speaking of, I should get around to reviewing it myself ? 10mo
Reggie @rohit-sawant I‘m up to We are all Monsters here right now, but honestly I‘ve liked all of them except for the firefly interpretation and even then Seanan McGuire still writes the most beautiful 2 paragraph metaphor about the real impending storm and the one we all go through with puberty. Anyways, yeah, Paper Cuts was good. Vampires as books, with a Nazi intersection. It was pretty good. This book is definitely scratching an itch. 10mo
Megabooks I did not know this. I have the tagged book in my #Audible TBR. (edited) 10mo
TrishB I learned that in the Hammer films 😁😁 always good to know. 10mo
Reggie @TrishB I don‘t know why I‘m thinking Terminator but what are the Hammer films? 10mo
TrishB https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammer_Film_Productions the original Dracula films with Christopher Lee scared me so much when I first saw them! 10mo
Eggs Great use of media/books 10mo
gradcat I‘m stuck on vampires not being able to cross moving water...nice little factoid there. 😂 10mo

Hey all! This isn‘t technically book related so i hope it‘s ok. I just like to spread the love and share the word when it comes to this disease. Its technically rare, but alot of people die undiagnosed. Just wanna do my part. #cripplelife #marfanawareness #knowledgeispower

Ericalambbrown Welcome to Litsy! Hope you enjoy it here as much as I do! 😊❤️📚 13mo

#IN2019 Number 1 is I‘m hoping to read a lot more non-fiction this year. I‘m not getting any younger & a combo of my illness & meds causes a lot of “brain fog” which makes it hard to think let alone read sometimes. It feels like my IQ is dripping out my ears a point at a time, so it‘s crosswords, puzzles & stuffing as many new facts into my brain as I can to bandage up the IQ bleed! #useitorloseit #knowledgeispower #feedyourbrain

RealLifeReading Here‘s wishing you a happy and healthy 2019! 14mo
Lynnsoprano When I retired, my GP told me I was not allowed to let my brain turn to mush. Nonfiction has been my answer, too. 14mo

Some afternoon reading. Not the lightest subject but very necessary. #knowledgeispower

Jess7 Yesssss!!!! 2y
JamieArc This has been on my TBR forever and I swear I‘m going to get to it this year but the density of it intimidates me! 2y
Valeka @Jess7 🙌🏼 2y
Valeka @JamieArc I‘m trying to read small pieces of it at a time and rotating it with some lighter things I have on my reading list for that very reason - it‘s dense! 2y
JamieArc @Valera That is my plan as well. I‘ll just have to not freak out if it takes a month or two to finish 😊 2y

My pick for #BackToReading |Day 8| #BannedBookLove | is #AnimalFarm ?by #GeorgeOrwell | "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality. A razor-edged satiric fable that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible.

Jess7 Q. Why was #AnimalFarm banned? A. This novel represents the rise of #Communism in the #SovietUnion. After its publication, the novel was immediately banned by the Soviet Union and continues to be banned in #Cuba and #China. In its life this book has been banned at one time or another by as many as 126 countries. #BannedBooks #Freedom #KnowledgeIsPower #ReadABannedBook (edited) 3y
CindyMyLifeIsLit ❤️ this book, and get to teach it this year!! 3y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I will never understand why any books are banned, well besides pornography. I found out Winnie the Pooh was banned in some American States, because talking animals were an insult to God. Lol 😂 Winnie the Pooh! Has to make you stop & think! Oh wait that's why they ban some books, they want you not to think. 🤣😂 3y

Jess7 @CindyMyLifeIsLit I love it too! It is such a short, but important read! For anyone on the fence who didn't enjoy Orwell's other book #1984, don't let that deter you! To me, #AnimalFarm was a much easier (and shorter) read. Honestly, it didn't even feel like I was reading the same author. I #highlyrecommend this book to readers young and old everywhere! #Stackit #Stacked #BannedBooksOfLitsy (edited) 3y
Alfoster Such a fun one to teach too!👏👏👏👏 3y
britt_brooke @Jess7 I also recommend his memoir. 3y
britt_brooke @Jess7 I first read Animal Farm in 7th grade for school (too young) and hated it. I reread it at about age 30 and absolutely loved it. 3y
