Did you know (I didn‘t) that the cashew is not a nut? It‘s the seed of a cashew apple, classified as a “drupe.” The book, “A Tree a Day,” inspired me to research this - there is a page devoted to The Cashew of Pirangi in Brazil - it‘s enormous! #naturalitsy #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

Amiable I did not know this! Interesting info! 1mo
CBee @Amiable and that concludes the #weirdwords edition of “Cyd Investigates” 😂😂🤓🤓 (edited) 1mo

lil1inblue I learned something new today! ✨️🎶The more you know!🎶✨️ 1mo
CBee @lil1inblue yay! 😀 1mo
TheBookHippie I am loving this book! 1mo
Megabooks I did know this, and it‘s very cool! Like how the tomato is actually a fruit. Or mushrooms are sexual organs. 😳 1mo
Deblovestoread I just learned this yesterday as I caught up in my reading 🤯 1mo
peanutnine Okay this explains why I'm allergic to nuts except I can eat cashews just fine! 1mo
AllDebooks That's fabulous 👌 1mo
Jas16 I had no idea! 1mo
MonicaLoves2Read I didn't know that. Don't you love learning stuff from reading? I do! 1mo
dabbe Very interesting! I love learning new things! 😍 1mo
CatLass007 Cool. 1mo
CBee @Megabooks wait, mushrooms? Omg 🫣🫣😂😂 1mo
CBee @Deblovestoread I didn‘t read it for three months so I just started with July - that NY “resolution” didn‘t last long 😂 1mo
CBee @peanutnine oh wow! I actually read you shouldn‘t eat cashews if you‘re allergic to nuts which is odd. And even more interesting is that you CAN eat them! Cashews are yummy. (edited) 1mo
Deblovestoread @Megabooks Sat what now? I will never look at a mushroom the same again 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
CBee @Deblovestoread I KNOW 🍄 🫣 1mo
Megabooks “Therefore, a mushroom is more like a genderless fungus penis…” https://www.mycopia.com/blog/1120 Biology is Wild!! @cbee @Deblovestoread 1mo
CBee @Megabooks can I use “fungus penis” as an insult? Cause that‘s like, golden 😂😂😂 1mo
AnnCrystal 🆒 This is incredible 🤩👌🏼💝💝💝 1mo
Megabooks @CBee “quit being a fungus penis!!” Yeah, it works!! 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
CBee @Megabooks YESSSSS 👏🏻👏🏻😂😂 1mo
AmyG @Megabooks There‘s a fungus amoung us!!! 1mo

My #weirdwordwednesday pick! I remember discovering this word during a word game - maybe Words With Friends or similar - and always thought it was a bit silly sounding. This little googol mascot guy should have googly eyes, I think 😂 #weirdwords

CatLass007 Another great word! I was listening to Death Comes To Pemberley and decided to look up a word instead of just figuring out what it meant from its context. I actually should have stuck to my habit with this particular word because it was very difficult to find a real definition or even a picture. What on earth did the word jives mean in 1803? 3mo
BookmarkTavern I heard the word googolplex (10 raised to the power of a googol) first when I was in school, and that‘s how I learned about googol. 😄 3mo

CBee @CatLass007 jives? In 1803? Hmm. I have no idea 😂😂 3mo
CBee @BookmarkTavern I should have included googolplex! 3mo
CatLass007 I‘ve heard of gewgaws but not googols. “Jives around the prisoner‘s wrists,” was the quote in the book. Shackles. 3mo
CBee @CatLass007 gotcha. What are gewgaws? 3mo
CatLass007 Gewgaws are what I would call “thingies.” I‘ve never actually looked up the definition. As usual. 3mo
CBee @CatLass007 I looked it up 😂 Couldn‘t resist. “Gewgaws:
a showy thing, especially one that is useless or worthless.”
3mo
CatLass007 Okay, so I was wrong. Thingies are useful. 3mo
CBee @CatLass007 I agree! Thingies are very useful, especially when you don‘t know what something is called. “That thingie over there” and such 😂 3mo
CatLass007 Exactly!! 3mo

This word came up in my last read (Saltwater 🙌🏻🙌🏻). It would be so fun to ride one of these! 😊
Here‘s an article about some well-known funiculars around the world: https://www.treehugger.com/fabulous-funiculars-from-around-the-globe-4863745

RaeLovesToRead I've been on funiculars! There was a small one in Scarborough. The biggest I've been on (I think) was Lake Como. Do you have them in the US? 3mo
RaeLovesToRead Ok the ones in the article are enormous! I've not been on one that big!!!!! 3mo

CBee @RaeLovesToRead we do! Not sure how many, but there‘s one a couple hours from me that I might have to check out! 3mo
TheBookHippie I‘ve been on a few and I‘ve been on the Lookout Mountain one, seen the LA one. There‘s one at our zoo it‘s a riot ! 3mo
peanutnine A funicular was mentioned in my last read as well! What are the odds! These seem so cool, I want to ride one! 3mo
ImperfectCJ The article missed this one, which is the one that taught me the word. (Until then, I just called them all trams, which is clearly wrong.): https://www.quebec-cite.com/en/businesses/funiculaire-du-vieux-quebec 3mo
Bookwormjillk I rode one in Pittsburgh. Kind of fun and scary at the same time. 3mo
CBee @TheBookHippie if you ever ever ever get back down to Chattanooga, you better let me know. I‘m like two hours from there! 3mo
CBee @peanutnine small world! I sort of thought it sounded like a body part - like part of the spine or something 😆 3mo
CBee @ImperfectCJ oooo how cool! 3mo
CBee @Bookwormjillk I want to visit the one on Lookout Mountain now. 3mo
Bookwormjillk @CBee I bet that's pretty! 3mo
CBee @Bookwormjillk it‘s lovely up there! 3mo
