Unbury Carol: A Novel | Josh Malerman

#bookreport @Cinfhen

I missed my report last week due to my annual dance festival. So far this month I‘ve finished these three. All were good, but none were stellar.

I‘ve got 4 in progress 😬📚! Unbury Carol and Vassa in the Night are for my bookclub meeting next weekend. Our theme this month is Fairytale retellings. The Scent Keeper is a Buddyread and Problems for Owl Post, my postal Bookclub.

I hope to have lots of reading time today!

Cinfhen I‘ve been curious about The Editor but I‘ve felt it‘s probably a #BorrowNotBuy right??? 2w
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I really liked it, if you do audio it‘s good that way. There was none of the bizarre dream sequence/ magical weirdness that Lily and the Octopus had, just straight up fiction. 2w
Cinfhen You know I LOVED Lily!!! I‘ll look for the audio/ thanks 😊 2w

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How is Unbury Carol? 2w
Soubhiville @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m enjoying it, but I don‘t think it‘s as good as Bird Box, which I thought was the best horror I‘d read in quite a while. 2w
tpixie @Soubhiville I just started reading in @Faibka ‘s #Covertocover journal in which @Betty had you write us a little note!! That was a fun surprise!!! 🎈 I can‘t believe we are on Round 3 ♥️ You did a great job putting us all together!!!!! ♥️📚🥳 2w
Cailey_Mac Vassa was so fun! It was an acid trip of a book😅😂 2w
Soubhiville @tpixie that‘s awesome. I can‘t believe how you‘ve all held the group together. It‘s worked out marvelously. 📚. I‘m not sure if Owl Post is going to go for a round 3 or not. It‘s in discussion now. 😊 2w
Soubhiville @Cailey_Mac it‘s a wild ride! But it has to be, Baba Yaga and her chicken house are in it! 2w
tpixie @Soubhiville we haven‘t discussed it recently. But early in Round 3 we wanted to continue!! 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Soubhiville ikr!! I loved that book!! 2w

The roads are stilly icy and there‘s a three day weekend to finish my household chores and school work, so there will be plenty of reading time today. I finally finished my #CovertoCover book last night, and I‘m going to switch between audiobooks while working on the puzzle or doing housework. I also need read this #LitsyBookClub choice that I may have waited until the last minute to start.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I've tried to read Under the Volcano, but could not get into it. Audio is probably a good option. 1mo
Daisey @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I‘ve listened to some of it and I‘d have to say I‘m not sure I‘m absorbing much. 1mo
CafeMom I love puzzles, how fun. 1mo
Daisey @CafeMom I haven‘t put together a puzzle on my own in forever; it‘s too distracting from the other things I feel I need to do. Over Christmas I started on one with family and didn‘t get to finish it, so it seemed a good idea for this long weekend. 1mo

Had fun reading both Mr. Penumbra books. Also enjoyed reading Sourdough both for #LitsyBookClub & #CoverToCover now I‘ve got to find Robin Sloann‘s Kickstarter book, Annabel Scheme! 🥖 📚 🥖

Daisey Someday I have got to get around to reading more of his books! 1mo
tpixie Ajax is about 2 hours. It‘s a prequel. 24 hours was kind of fun. Light reads. Easy farming listens!! 1mo

This year, I‘m looking at my reading goals as more participatory. I will continue to set a 100 book goal on Goodreads, but the others are mostly about reading with others instead of a specific list.

I will also continue to track reading of library and owned books, but I‘m not setting any kind of goal.

#1001books #Reading1001

#ReadingResolutions #ReadingGoals #2020Goals

JazzFeathers Those all sounds awesome challenges. I'm attempting #ReadingEurope2020 too. 2mo
CafeMom Great goals. 2mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers @CafeMom Thanks! I‘m really looking forward to each of them, especially Reading Europe. 2mo

📖 Getting close to finishing Sauron Defeated with #FellowshipofTolkien

I hope to finish the books I‘m currently reading. I may or may not get to the upcoming depending on mood.

Cinfhen Looks like some good reads this week 🤩 3mo
JazzFeathers I finished Sauron Defeated yesterday night. Although the difficult parts, l really enjoyed it. 3mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I have about 30 pages left and hope to make time for them today. I‘m not sure I would say I enjoyed all of it, but I can appreciate it and am glad to have read it. 3mo

Saturday morning plans:
#HolidayRecipeSwap card finalized and dropped in the mail
✅ Coffee and another #CovertoCover book read
🔷 Catching up on Sauron Defeated with #FellowshipofTolkien
🔷 Making Christmas fruitcake while listening to audiobooks

JazzFeathers 👏👏👏 I should try to bake a fruit cake too 😆 3mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers It‘s a family tradition that I took over a couple of years ago when my grandma passed away. It‘s a great way to remember her and to get my holiday season started. 3mo
jewright So glad you still make the fruitcake! 3mo
JazzFeathers @Daisey Those family traditions are the best. I took up my grampa tradition of the Christmas menu. 3mo

I got up early this morning to make pumpkin scones for school, and I hoped to fit in a few pages of reading along with my own breakfast. However, by the time I cleaned up my kitchen mess and prepped my just finished #CovertoCover book to mail, it was time to leave. I did fit in a few pages tonight, and I‘m continuing to enjoy my slow progress through the versions of the story of Numenor.

JazzFeathers I'm really, really enjoying these evolutions of the stories. In yesterday's night commentary, Christopher theories that at that stage, his father was considering different ways to revise his Silmarillion, especially in light of the (then still) unfinished Lord of the Rings. It's fascinating and quite unexpected. 3mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers I made my way through more of this last night and did find it fascinating to consider. I love how Tolkien put so much of his thinking down on paper. 3mo

🔶 @bookriot
🔶 More, definitely greater variety of books
🔶 Fantasy, classics, historical fiction
🔶 not sure about the longest, but I‘ll tag a few from my #CovertoCover postal group: @tpixie @sammisho @EmilyChristine
