The Song of Achilles | Madeline Miller

A retelling of Homer‘s Iliad focusing on the relationship between Patroclus and Achilles. I was invested from the very beginning. Beautiful writing. Fast paced. Heartbreaking. A story of love and war. #booked2022 #Setinanancientcivilization #thinkgreek

This is why I love reading challenges, though I participate in few. Read for #Booked2022 for #thinkgreek as this is an Antigone retelling. I had to educate myself on Antigone before starting and it very much enhanced my reading experience. This is a heartbreaker and that ending is just wow. I absolutely loved this book and I‘m so grateful to this challenge for giving me the nudge to read it. I‘d call this a bit of a Romeo & Juliet retelling also.

Palimpsest Your cactus is beautiful 1y
CBee One of my favorites! I can‘t wait to read her newest 😊 1y

I‘m using this as my #ThinkGreek mythology retelling for #Booked2022… it‘s not a pure retelling but it definitely includes a whole lot of mythology and gods all together in this (absolutely terrifying) purgatory place. Ghosts, gods, demons, angels, monsters and epic battles—there is a LOT going on here, but it‘s definitely a well-written, fascinating story. I think it was bit longer than it needed to be, but otherwise I loved it.

This was a fantastic retelling of the myth of Achilles. I like the way she gave the secondary character Patroclus a voice which made Achilles humanity more present in the story.

Although the book for me came nowhere near Circe or Song of Achilles, it was still an amusing read. To consider the Trojan war from the point of view of a chorus of women and goddesses was original and cool! A light pick.

Thanks Cindy for sending me this one. It makes the challenges so much easier 😉🤣😘

Told from the point of view of Ariadne and her sister, Phaedra, this retelling helped to ground some of these stories for me and to give more emphasis to the women in the stories.

Swann brings the BC to the AD with this retelling of Greek myth. I haven‘t brushed up on my mythology in a long time, but you don‘t need to remember it to enjoy the drama of this extended clan in modern day, small town Texas. This novel proves that some stories are timeless yet still can have new life brought to them. The #audiobook narration is excellent!

Thanks for the rec @Cinfhen and @MallenNC 💜

sherrisilvera I have a signed copy from the indie store that recently went out of business by me after 44 years. Glad to see it's a good one! 2y
MallenNC I‘m glad you liked it! I‘m not very well versed in myths either but I liked the story. And the mythology added another layer. 2y
Megabooks @sherrisilvera I‘m sorry that store went out of business, but I hope you enjoy the book. 👍🏻👍🏻 2y
Megabooks @MallenNC yes! I think I remember the story of Artemis and Orion, but the other main storyline I didn‘t remember as well, but it seemed familiar. 2y
Cinfhen I‘m glad you liked this one!! I was riveted!! It would make for a great TV adaptation 2y
