Little Women | Louisa May Alcott

OMG this book is SOO boring. I can not believe that this is still a classic and how many times the movie has been remade. UGHH.

Overall I may not have enjoyed this book, but I did find it interesting. And parts of me see why others like it, and why people use it for character studies. For me, this will never be a book I recommend, but it will be a book I argue and debate.

LibrarianRyan Full, ie Long review on GR and LT. 4y
MaGoose I read this one eons ago, but remember not liking it all that much either. 4y
tpixie @LibrarianRyan I loved it years ago, but when I saw the audiobook was 11 hours, now I don‘t know if I want to commit to a book that I‘ve read that I know will be a slow moving read (because it‘s old)! Instead I‘m listening to (edited) 4y

LibrarianRyan @tpixie I wold have relished 11 hours. The free unabridged version from PRH was 18 hours. If it wasn't for a challenge, I would NEVER have finished it. 4y
valeriegeary I'm reading this for the first time... Trying to... I'm having trouble wanting to pick it up after I set it down again. Moments of it are lovely and then other times it feels so preachy and old fashioned. 4y
RvnclawWhovian I started this one and haven‘t picked it back up 😕 4y
LibrarianRyan @valeriegeary I can not tell you how many times I have picked this up and put it down. many, many, many times. I only finished it because it was free and for a challenge. 😓 4y
LibrarianRyan @RvnclawWhovian don't blame you 4y
ljuliel No offense to those that like it, but I think it‘s SAPPY. Thanks, Ryan, for speaking your mind. 😁 4y
LibrarianRyan @ljuliel always! 😃 😄 4y
Laughterhp I bailed on this book like 2 years ago 😬😬 and have no desire to pick it up again 4y
Scochrane26 I read this during a recovery from an accident. I didn‘t have much to do, & a friend was great & brought me dvds & books. Like many classics for me, it was just ok. I wasn‘t sure if I didn‘t love it because the book is boring or because I was already bored. I haven‘t seen any of the movies but do want to see the current one, mainly because of the actresses in it. Think this will be the rare case of liking a movie more than the book. 4y
Hooked_on_books Apparently Alcott herself wasn‘t a fan of it, so you‘re in good company! 4y
Librariana So...... I haven't read this... and I genuinely don't know if I even want to! I'm familiar with the story... and I guess in my mind that's enough to justify going and picking up modern retellings of this classic (and others!) ? I read the graphic novel "Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy" and found it to be ok, especially for a younger audience. I did go ahead and pick up 4y
Librariana We'll see how the ⬆️ linked title turns out. Is that something you'd consider reading, Ryan? A modern retelling of a classic or even a graphic novel version of such? @Hooked_on_books - Holly, I had NO idea Alcott felt that way about her own work! 4y
LibrarianRyan @Librariana I would read a retelling. And a GN. I love to see how they stand up to the original. 4y
Cinfhen I just read it and thought it was pretty good considering it was written in the 1800‘s! 4y
