Pickpick

An enjoyable historical (WWI era) mystery starring an aspiring female reporter and surprisingly, no romance.

Found this on an MMD list a couple weeks ago (“20 historical mysteries featuring feisty female protagonists” http://bit.ly/2MqFC9E). I‘m looking forward to reading more of the books she mentioned.

+1 for #ScaryScavengerHunt: Where a character dies ✔️

+2 for a mystery

Crazeedi Thanks for the link! Some interesting books listed there too! 2w

Phryne is a savvy woman who knows how to solve problems. Though this took me awhile to get into, once I got into the rhythm of the narrative, I was hooked. I‘ll definitely continue the series, and it really, really makes me want to wish the Miss Fisher series! #WhoDunItTheSequel

I mailed this out to you today, @bookwrm526 !

This is also my #FemaleDetective for #Booked2019 .

Nute Nice book cover art! 2w
Librarybelle @Nute I thought so too! 2w
MallenNC I have not read the books but the TV show is so great. Worth watching if only for Miss Fisher‘s costumes! 2w

Cinfhen I watched this episode on Netflix series / it was enjoyable 2w
Librarybelle @Cinfhen I forgot at least part of the series was on Netflix. I‘ll have to check and see if it‘s still available. 2w
MaureenMc @Librarybelle Sadly, Miss Fisher is no longer available on Netflix. (It just left mid-September, before I could finish the series! 😩) 2w
Librarybelle Darn! Thanks for letting me know, @MaureenMc ! 2w
BarbaraTheBibliophage Nice review. I‘m bummed to know the series isn‘t streaming anymore, though. 1w
Librarybelle Thanks, @BarbaraTheBibliophage ! It is a shame it is no longer streaming. 1w

#ChillingPhotoChallenge #day4 #BlackCat My library is in a bit of a shambles right now, so trying to find a book to fit this prompt was hard! Luckily, I remembered this Phryne Fisher book has Ember sitting on her knee. Book Phryne has two adopted daughters, one of which found a little black kitten on her windowsill. Now an official member of the crime fighting family, Ember is spoilt rotten. #TeamSlaughter #Scareathlon 2points #PointsTotal-33

1. Dead Connection was the first book by Alafair Burke that I‘ve read - happy to report that it won‘t be the last! Very much enjoyed it.
2. Blue
3. Booked a week away in Cornwall for later this month - yay!
4. I can snap my fingers but I can‘t whistle for toffee, which is really annoying because my mum is phenomenal at it!
5. Thanks for another amazing week here on #Litsy, all - lots of books added to my TBR!

Number 8 in the Phryne Fisher series, and this one is a bit of an homage to Agatha Christie, including a familiar character by the name of Miss Mary Mead😉 I do like Phryne, she‘s such fun!

I struggle to read more than a couple of chapters in the evening when I‘m working on my own writing projects, so in between manuscripts I tend to binge. This is my current read, and I‘m loving it!

This description of Phryne Fisher‘s destination in the opening chapter of ‘Urn Burial‘ made me giggle. Especially Dot‘s reaction after everyone else‘s.

humouress In the first chapter, within half a page, we get three characters called Lin Chung, Li Peng and Lina. Fortunately there is a whole cast list of characters (literally - they‘re listed at the beginning of the book) so these three don‘t get confused. 2mo
