On vacation at the Great Wolf Lodge. I‘m still making time to read. #noexcuses

Smrloomis I was surprised to find I loved this. Thoughts? (edited) 5y
Dyslexicon13 @Smrloomis I had heard it was good but didn‘t expect it to be as good as it was. I was blown away by it. 5y
Smrloomis Agreed 👍🏽 5y

The Song of Achilles | Madeline Miller

It was 30 degrees when I left this morning and it‘s supposed to be 70 when I get off work! I decided it was time to get off my lazy butt and walk to work despite that I have to walk with the students.

Anyways, I‘m listening to SoA right now because my therapist of all people wants to talk about Circe. He has a total crush on the narrators voice. He said I needed to read this one first though. #audiowalking #noexcuses #ItsGreatToBeAHawk

LibrarianJen I took a lot of mythology classes in undergrad so I‘m loving this version of Achilles. 5y
CoverToCoverGirl Great book❤️ 5y

#GetMovin #NoExcuses

I have zero excuses for not having read this book. It's been in my #TBR list for ages and I even have a copy of it I bought at the library bookstore for .50 cents. It's won awards, it's only 230 pages & it's from a diverse author. Yep, there are just no excuses for me not having read it.😬😆

Trashcanman 0/0=undefined. So you're OK 😊 6y
eanderson It happens! 6y
CoffeeNBooks I just started reading this book yesterday. 6y

MarriedtoMrT He‘s been called out on some horrible behavior toward women so now I think I‘m not going to feel guilty about never reading his stuff. (https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/mar/07/three-women-go-public-with-sherman-alexie-sexual-harassment-allegations) 6y
DebinHawaii @MarriedtoMrT Oh no! I completely missed this. I guess I have one very big excuse not to read it then! 😬😣 6y
Suet624 I will still read anything that Alexie writes. 6y
GeekGrl82 I was so moved by this book when I read it 4 years ago that learning about his behavior made me even angrier. I won't read any more of his books, but this one is just do damn good. 6y
Cinfhen It‘s another disappointment brought to light but it shouldn‘t diminish this particular book! Hate the author but don‘t hate the book....you can still read it, Deb. It‘s excellent 6y
Lola @Cinfhen I agree. This is a truly excellent book. All of this is so very complicated- I‘m still leaving this one my list, to be read someday, despite the current allegations (edited) 6y
Cinfhen That‘s another book that I 💯believe in despite the behavior of Diaz. It‘s a brilliant book @Lola 6y
fleeting Mine's also still brand new and sealed 😄 6y
ValerieAndBooks I would strongly recommend you read this in spite of all the news about Alexie. It gives the reader a lot to think about. 6y

TrishB 😂😂 this book gets a prize for how many prompts it fits! 6y
arlenefinnigan @TrishB I basically try to work out if I can work in this or a Moomins book, then look at the rest of my bookshelves. 6y
Cinfhen Had the same thoughts @TrishB @arlenefinnigan 😂😂😂Big game, Saturday!!! My guys are excited 😊 6y

Cinfhen Exactly❣️❣️❣️ 6y
CocoReads I‘ve got the Secret History of the Pink Carnation and haven‘t read it yet either! 6y

raelaschoenherr I read everything Lauren Willig writes! Pink Carnation is fun, but she grows a lot as a writer throughout the series. 6y
CrowCAH @CocoReads @readinginthedark @raelaschoenherr I love the Scarlet Pimpernel, so I picked up the Pink Carnation! When I get to it, sounds like I‘ll enjoy it!!! 6y
readinginthedark I love The Scarlet Pimpernel! Pink Carnation is more historical romance than adventure, but it‘s still good! 6y

#GetMovin #NoExcuses
This is the only book i have ever bailed on and twice and i have absolutely no excuses - im determined to try again - although i have heard readers should start with 'portrait of an artist....' first. Maybe I need a few Guinness's and a couple of jamesons first.

MayJasper Not exactly easy to read. I bailed. 6y
Minervasbutler I bailed a few times. Finally made it through with the help of two great "companions" - Anthony Burgess's Here Comes Everybody and Richard Ellman's Ulysses On the Liffey. Reading a chapter of Joyce and then a chapter of one or both of those great critics helped me make sense of it. 6y
Leftcoastzen I have read it more than once . Starting with Portrait helps .Good advice from @Minervasbutler some of it so Irish and of its time . 6y
andrew61 @Leftcoastzen @Minervasbutler Thanks for the tips - I'll definitely try again. 6y

A Place for Us: A Novel | Fatima Farheen Mirza
post image

I made #NoExcuses at book club tonight, as I bravely copped to the bail 😉Only one person liked the book, every one else hated it!!! And we finally choose our first half of next year‘s reads...Guess which one was my pick?!?! #BookClubPicks

riversong153 @Librariana I second this guess 6y
BarbaraBB Obviously 😉 6y
See All 26 Comments
Cinfhen Nope @Librariana @riversong153 @BarbaraBB But I‘m super excited to read that one!!! 6y
TrishB I think the SK? 6y
Kalalalatja But the SK is a chunkster, right @TrishB ? So it couldn‘t be that one 😄 6y
merelybookish Weight of Ink? 6y
KarenUK I‘m thinking it‘s A place for us....? (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Another book I‘m looking forward to @merelybookish but NOT the one I recommended 6y
Cinfhen The lovely @TrishB has guessed correctly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻and it‘s 870 pages @Kalalalatja ❣️❣️❣️❣️ 6y
Cinfhen The two I‘m not excited for are the Fitzgerald and 6y
Cinfhen Thanks for all the guesses 💕 6y
merelybookish I wouldn't be excited about Fitzgerald either. 😒 6y
Cinfhen The person who suggested the Fitzgerald also suggested tonight‘s book choice @merelybookish so I‘m already weary of her picks 😫 6y
TrishB It will fly by! I think it‘s a really easy read. But I love SK that much that I find it hard to offer anything independent- I‘m always grateful for another book! I haven‘t read that Fitzgerald so can‘t comment. 6y
TrishB A Place for Us sounds good 👍🏻 and The Weight of Ink - that title is awesome! 6y
ephemeralwaltz The SK is so good. It is easy @TrishB I couldn't stop reading!! 6y
Leftcoastzen Love the King, but I love all Fitzgeralds. 6y
Zelma What was the book you bailed on? 6y
LeahBergen I KNOW it‘s the Kadish. 😘 6y
LeahBergen Wait, what?? 😂😂 6y
Cinfhen @Zelma the bailed book was beyond horrible 6y
Cinfhen Hahaha @LeahBergen but I‘m all for the Kadish book!!! I‘ve been wanting to read the King forever and summer seemed like the perfect time to do it @Leftcoastzen @ephemeralwaltz @TrishB I‘m actually pretty pleased with the first 6 books selected 🤞🏼🤞🏼 6y
Reviewsbylola I would have guessed The Weight of Ink! You better love 11/22/63!!! One of my favorite books ever. Except I feel like you‘re never #teamsteph so 😬🤞🏻😬🤞🏻 6y
Cinfhen I totally have 11.22.63 on my list from you @Reviewsbylola and the fact that the ladies agreed to read King makes me soooo happy!! Turns out they all LOVED your other choice...so I guess we were all #TeamSteph on that pick (edited) 6y
