Oh. My. Days. 😳 This book is taking A LOT of reading! Really struggled around the 75% mark & briefly considered quitting but I am determined to get this thing read TODAY.

And because I'm quite probably insane I just bought Les Miserables for my Kindle - all 1000+ pages of it!

I like big books - but sometimes I think there's such a thing as too big 😂😂😂

runswithscissors007 I just had the same experience with The Fourth Hand. (Also John Irving). A slog. Not 100%sure why....Lordy it felt never ending. I believe in you! Also the ending of Owen Meaney was so out there it would be sad to miss it .(assuming you haven‘t read it before) 12h
Reagan I have this in hardcover, and it‘s so big! I‘ve picked it up a couple of times and just can‘t get into it. You‘re inspiring me to try again. 11h
EadieB My review: I had a hard time getting into this book as it took me forever to read. The print was tiny and the book was long. But once I got used to the story, I really began to enjoy it. By time I finished, I was really loving it and now it is over, I know I will be thinking of Owen Meany for a long time! I can see why it was picked for The Great American Read list and 1001 Books To Read Before You Die list - it truly is a great book! 10h

readingjedi @EadieB @Reagan @runswithscissors007 I just finished it! Having a quiet little sob now - it's definitely worth sticking with! 9h
Reagan @readingjedi Excellent! 6h
shanaqui My dad once recommended this book to me. He so rarely reads and he is so manifestly smart and interested in everything that I thought it would sure be a winner for me, but... I barely remember it?! Only him recommending it to me, and that I did read it. Gah. 1h

I planned to listen to my book today while at work. My wireless earbuds died yesterday and I didn‘t charge them so I grabbed a pair of wired ones this morning. I pulled the buds out of my bag to start my book and discover this 👆🏼 ... thanks for ruining ANOTHER pair of earbuds Isabella 😾🙄
Yes I do try to keep them out of her reach/view, these were under stuff on the table so she must have gotten to them a while ago.

Myhusbandhatesreading My cat has finally stopped getting into things but now it‘s our 30 lb puppy!! This morning I got out of the shower to toilet paper strung all around the bathroom and bedroom! 😂🤦‍♀️ 2d
OrangeMooseReads @Myhusbandhatesreading ahh pets, aren‘t they wonderful LOL 😆 2d
AlaMich As a kitten, our cat Ringo chewed through the mouse cable. 😹 2d

Still chugging along with this. It‘s starting to drag a little bit, still good but I kind of want Irving to get to the point. I listened to a couple hours of it yesterday while at work, love that my new job allows me to get my book nerd on while still working and getting paid 🙃 I‘ll get at least another 2 hours in today during my commute also love I only have a long commute 2 days a week 😊

Traveling for work, killing time with a $3 copy of THNH 🐻🏨🏍🇦🇹John Irving has been my favorite author since high school. His use of irony is (in my novice opinion) better than anyone else, his characters are lovable yet always have the most interesting defining traits, and he tends to leave you wondering about the influence of fate and the supernatural on his hum-drum families (I see that too in Owen Meany, Ave of Mysteries, etc)

Started this on the way to work yesterday (an hour commute). @readingjedi posted about it the other day and I was reminded that I‘ve had it for what seems like forever and never got around too it.
I also realized the movie Simon Birch is based on this book.

ljuliel My all time favorite book. I‘ve not seen the movie but I‘ve heard it was really botched and not done well at all. 6d
OrangeMooseReads @ljuliel I‘ve noticed the obvious name changes but it‘s been years since I saw the movie and this is my first time with the book. I didn‘t love the movie but I didn‘t hate it either, that opinion will probably change lol 😆 6d
Nerdy_Bookworm I recently picked up a copy to read, and then give to my grandmother because she absolutely LOVED the movie! 6d
OrangeMooseReads @Nerdy_Bookworm lol love when that happens. #spreadinglitlove 5d

This is one of those books that I have been meaning to get round to for ages but always gets passed over. Then I realise that I'm the only person left in the world that hasn't read it & I feel ashamed/inadequate/left out & I bump it to the top of Mount ToBeRead immediately! So tonight I finally start this one.

OrangeMooseReads 🙋🏻‍♀️ You aren‘t the only one that hasn‘t read it. I‘ve had the audio edition for a long while and have just never gotten around to it. Maybe soon. 2w
Scochrane26 I haven‘t read it either but have had on my kindle for a few yrs. 2w
Prairiegirl_reading I started it years ago, got distracted, and now I cannot find my copy. 🤷🏻‍♀️ so you aren‘t alone. 2w

Pickpick

This was a fab book. It had so many twists and turns. Just when you thought you found out, some information comes out and changes the story. I never guessed at all how it turned out!

Highly recommend. This story is about a school shooting and the underlying causes behind it. As a teacher this book above to me in a variety of ways. I felt compassion for the parents, the victims, teachers, and the shooter. I cannot tell you how many bullied kids I have seen. Heartbreaking.

Please tell me I‘m not the only one who does this: a few times a year (if I‘m lucky), I‘ll start a book & read a chapter or two & put it aside for awhile. Why? Because I can tell I‘m reading something special & I want to savor it & not rush through it. Case in point ⬆️ I read 40 pages of this just over a year ago & just picked it up again yesterday. I love it and am trying not to speed through it. Tell me I‘m not the only weirdo who does this! 🤓

marleed No your not! 3w

TheAromaofBooks I've been there!! I'm also a big library reader, so there have been times that I've checked a book out of the library, read a chapter or two and realized that I needed my own copy so I could underline and/or cry on it as needed! 3w

Graywacke I don‘t, but it makes sense. I often have trouble starting books, but usually just put them down for a few days and try again. But this also seems like a good idea. 3w
Chab256 I don't, but this is one of my favorite books of all time. 🙂 3w
LeahBergen I loved this book!! 💙💙 3w
ljuliel All time favorite book. I don‘t read good books in pieces. I keep reading til they‘re done. Then the next 10 books I pick up , I don‘t want to read, because none are THAT good. (edited) 3w
CuriousG I've read this book so many times I can't even count. I often dip in and out to enjoy just a chapter or two 3w
