This book was an absolute treat and one that I could have quoted from all day long! A literary mystery that flipped between two timelines, I found the storytelling clever and really well done. I also really appreciated the locally authentic descriptions of Brisbane, quirks and all, which just added to the experience. #ozfiction at its best!!!

JennyM @CarolynM I thought this was excellent! 2w
CarolynM Yay! So glad you enjoyed it😀 2w

Cinfhen Your tree looks beautiful and the book sounds fantastic 💚❤️💚 2w
JennyM @CarolynM @Freespirit @Jerdencon a really great read and her attention to local detail was just 👌- right down to the winds that bluster through the city every August 💨 2w
JennyM @Cinfhen we‘re starting to feel a bit more festive now with the kids finishing school yesterday for the year 🎄 🎅 (edited) 2w

JennyM @BiblioLitten I so enjoy reading by the tree at Christmas. The twinkly lights 🎄 2w

Mehso-so

This kind of, sort of, reminded me of The Hallmark Channel. The twist was very unexpected- I did appreciate that. Infidelity bothers me and there was a lot of it as part of the storyline. But it reads quickly. 2-2.5 stars for me. Will be sending this out in a few days.

BookwormAHN The infidelity part was the nuttiest. 2w

#Bookreport - finished the bottom three, as planned! All were 👍

#Weeklyforecast - starting the week with the recommendation by @BarbaraBB (We are called to rise). After that, it‘ll most probably be two from yesterday‘s library haul. I also have Looking for Alaska as my 🎧

CarolynM I liked The Fragments a lot. Looking forward to your review🙂 2w
JennyM @CarolynM that‘s next one up I think. I‘ve only heard good things so I‘m looking forward to it. 2w

JennyM @Cinfhen it was good but a bit predictable (edited) 2w
Cinfhen Hmmmm, that‘s how I felt about her last book I read 2w
CarolynM One of my book group friends, who I usually agree with, really disliked it, so you never know. Hope you will like it, though. 2w
JennyM @Cinfhen I would say so. It was a good enough read and it kept me entertained, but I wasn‘t wowed 2w
JennyM @CarolynM I read the first page last night and was pretty impressed so I‘m thinking I‘ll probably enjoy it. And it starts off in Brissie, so that always 👍 2w
Cinfhen Now I‘m curious about the tagged book that you and @CarolynM are discussing!! More info please 😉 2w
CarolynM @Cinfhen It's a kind of literary mystery about a lost manuscript, told over 2 time lines. As I said I really liked it, but my friend thought it was contrived and and not well written. 2w
BarbaraBB Looking forward to your thoughts on We Are Called to Rise! 🤞🏼 2w
Kalalalatja I‘m super interested in the Boyne book, so I‘m looking forward to your review! ☺️ 2w
JennyM @BarbaraBB I‘m about halfway through and, while it‘s heartbreaking, I‘m enjoying it very much. 2w
JennyM @Kalalalatja I‘ve been meaning to read this for a while - might roll over into next week, but it‘s on the bedside table, so I will get to it soon! 2w

Pickpick

A totally fun comfort read with familiar characters from the Murder She Wrote television series...will have to seek out more books in the series.

Ugh. I can feel myself falling into a reading slump. I went gangbusters on NetGalley this year but only with #cozymysteries. Now I can‘t stand them! Need to mix it up a bit, I guess. But with what? Blerg.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Time to change genres! How about something like 3w

Got a little library #bookhaul today - hoping one of these keeps my interest. I keep starting books and bailing halfway through even though I‘m enjoying them. Bonus #catsoflitsy Edie and Chloe in the background washing up after and finishing up dinner, respectively.

Owlizabeth I keep almost checking out The Plus One at the library - interested to hear your thoughts. (edited) 1mo
Crazeedi That happens to me in cycles for some reason. 1mo
mcipher @Crazeedi it‘s so annoying when you actually enjoy the book and it happens! 1mo
mcipher @Owlizabeth I started it but put it aside for a cozy mystery. I needed super fluffy fluff today 1mo

This is one of the two books selected to read by the November 2019 featured author in the Goodreads Cozy Mysteries group. Started it this morning and am 50 pages in. I‘m enjoying it so far, it really grabbed me from the beginning. #cozymysteries #pawsandclawsseries

I find cozy mysteries fascinating! I can‘t handle really scary, suspenseful mysteries, so cozy is right up my alley. I LOVE the humor - the puns are real, my friends! 😂 My friends are getting used to me halting all conversation to read a new cozy title out loud and then I laugh and laugh and laugh! Such fun!

The Chocolate Shark Shenanigans is the first cozy mystery I‘ve read and I‘m pleased to say it went well. [Review continues in comments]

What I like:

A quick read
Kept me engaged
Chocolate history and trivia peppered throughout
1mo
booksbrewsandbooze Things I struggled with:

Characters doing stupid stuff, especially when it came to police investigations (I‘m pretty sure this comes with the territory of cozy mysteries though - the amateur sleuth!

Lots of names/characters: I have the memory span of a goldfish, so I admit that I had to go back a few times to try and remember who someone was or to keep names/relationships straight

The villain: Scarily one dimensional and not sure how someone that evil would fit into society without people being more wary of them

Overall: I‘d absolutely read more books by author JoAnna Carl. The Chocolate Shark Shenanigans ticks many of the boxes when it comes to cozy mysteries. I would have liked to hear more about the chocolate shop business. There was so much going on in the book that it sometimes felt like that job was an aside.

The cover is so fun. Great colors and illustrations - campy and cute.

I didn‘t solve the mystery ahead of time, which kept the action going and there were twists and turns that held my interest all throughout. Now if you‘ll excuse me, I‘m off to buy chocolate dusted with sea salt!

Note: My friend received this as an ARC and was kind enough to let me read it. Thank you!
