An excellent winter read for me… historical fiction perfectly combined with magical realism, mystery, adventure and a bit of romance, all with Ivey‘s fantastic writing. I loved the Alaskan wilderness setting, the characters in the 19th century timeline, and even the more modern-day storyline.

My most recent read for #LGP2E, heading for Scotland next. Great choice, @KimM ❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Also my #doublespin for January.

TheKidUpstairs I've got this one on the shelf! 2y
sprainedbrain @TheKidUpstairs I think you‘ll like it! 😉 2y
KimM Wow it‘s still out there! 2y
thebluestocking I love this book. Such a great wintery read. 💙🥶 2y

I read a lot of dystopian (mainly YA) books a few years ago & may have burned myself out on the genre, but @MeganAnn had this excellent choice for #LGP2E & I enjoyed the heck out of it. You can definitely tell this is a female-led story written by a man😬, but I still loved Lynn, all of the action, & the backstory.

Sort of fun to read a book set in the post-pandemic, post-nuclear war frozen Yukon in my mid-pandemic stupid-humid Iowa.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

sprainedbrain This was also my #DoubleSpin book for July, and I think this is the earliest in a month I‘ve ever finished both my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin! @TheAromaofBooks 3y
Kimberlone I really enjoyed this one when I read it a few years back. I was hoping for a sequel, but never saw anything about one. 3y
sprainedbrain @Kimberlone it definitely seemed set up perfectly for a sequel, so I was surprised to see there aren‘t any. 🤔 3y

Kimberlone @sprainedbrain that‘s what I thought! 3y
Dogearedcopy Oh wow! I was wondering if #LGP2e was still going! This looks great (stacking 📚 🙂) 3y
MeganAnn I‘m glad you liked it!! @Kimberlone I would love a sequel too. The author has answered questions on goodreads saying that he‘d like to do a sequel someday, but nothing is in the works currently so he keeps it pretty vague. I hope he gets around to it someday! 3y
Kimberlone @MeganAnn good to know! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 3y
Chrissyreadit This book has a lot of mixed reviews but sounds like a book I would enjoy. 3y

My #BookSpinBingo card for July💥

My #BookSpin is Lucky Suit by Lauren Blakely, and my #DoubleSpin is The Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson.

MeganAnn Oooh! Is the #doublespin my book for #lgp2e?? Looking forward to reading your thoughts on it! (edited) 3y
sprainedbrain @MeganAnn it is! ☺️ 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! Looks great!! 3y
sprainedbrain @MeganAnn omg I started your book last night… I‘m hooked! It‘s a little eerie with her talking about the terror attacks and the pandemic that wiped people out. 😬 3y

Here‘s my March #bookspin list:

🔹A few library books currently checked out + some titles I want to read soon
🔹Mansfield Park #pemberlittens
🔹#LMPBC and #LGP2E titles to read and send out before the end of the month
🔹12-18 Trying something new listing genres in which I have numerous TBR books on my shelves. I‘ll use those for mood reading by choosing the most appealing book from that genre at the time while still getting a book off my shelves

kspenmoll Like your idea for your TBR shelves! 3y
LiteraryinLawrence Cool idea with the different categories! And I like “Books from Mom” as a genre. 😋 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Looks great!! 3y
ElizaMarie Ooo I like this idea of the categories :) This is great! Good luck with your bingos! 3y
Dogearedcopy Is #LGP2E still going? I haven‘t seen much here on Litsy. Even though I couldn‘t participate, I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the titles! 3y

What do you do when it‘s February and you‘re consciously trying to #ReadBlackAuthors more, but you‘re stressed and just want a trashy romance? I personally found a new-to-me, awesome author in Weatherspoon, ignored the questionable title, downloaded and devoured this super-sexy, sweet romance with an awesome leading lady in one Sunday night.

It‘s really 🔥🔥🔥, with solid writing and a great hook in the epilogue that led me to book 2.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

peanutnine I started with this one as well and found out afterwards that it is a spin-off character story from a longer series of hers that I now want to go back and read 3y
sprainedbrain @peanutnine oh my. Now I probably need to read that, too! I really like this author so will be on the lookout. 3y
MeganAnn I‘m feeling the same way! Want to read romances instead of the #lgp2e book and all the library books I should be reading... I started the tagged book so at least it checks the #readblackauthors box and scratches the romance itch 😆 3y

sprainedbrain @MeganAnn ooooooh. I still haven‘t read the first one in this series, but I‘ve been meaning to read Alyssa Cole. 3y
Prairiegirl_reading What about the romances written by Stacey Abrams, nom de plume Selena Montgomery? There are a bunch, I haven‘t read them but apparently they are steamy. 3y
MeganAnn @sprainedbrain I highly recommend her Reluctant Royals series - the one I‘m reading now is the last book. I‘ve loved every book in it so far! 😍 They are all available on Hoopla too if you use that. Probably not as steamy is the one you just finished, but they do have a little 🔥 Start with: 3y
sprainedbrain @Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve got her on my list, too! I go through phases when I need romance so like to keep a running list. 😉 3y
Liz_M I just listened to a code switch podcast titled “Black Kiss-story“ which refers to this list of Black-Authored Historical Romance Novels:

CarolynM Sometimes a little 🔥 is exactly what you need🙂 3y
sprainedbrain @Liz_M oh that‘s great! Thanks 😊 3y
sprainedbrain @CarolynM yes ma‘am! 😉 3y
Bookzombie I‘m pretty sure I have another one her books on my TBR list, but I definitely stacked this one and the sequel you posted too! 3y

I‘m going to try #bookspin for the first time! Here‘s my list:
Most of these are off the fantastic #newyearwhodis list from @BarbaraJean 📚 @monalyisha
Also added the #bbbbc read @InLibrisVeritas
My #lgp2e book which I need to start ASAP anyway
A yet to be determined retelling of Northanger Abbey for #pemberlittens @sprainedbrain
And a couple of books from my shelves which I would like to read soon to round it out.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! 3y
Suet624 Bookspin is so fun. 3y
BarbaraJean Oooh, I‘ve been thinking about trying Bookspin for the first time this month, too. I‘ve so overcommitted myself with book groups and buddy reads for January, and there are so many books on your #newyearwhodis list I want to read... maybe Bookspin Bingo might help me out! 3y

Here are my #5StarReads2020 ✨So many of the wonderful books on this list I read because of Litsy.

Northanger Abbey replaces P&P as my new favorite Austen book #PemberLittens
The first three are from last year‘s #NewYearWhoDis list by @4thhouseontheleft - can‘t wait to see what list I get this year! This is basically my list.
Binti was a gift from the lovely @MaleficentBookDragon for the #JolabokaflodSwap
Rumble was a #lgp2e read @Peddler410

Chrissyreadit I love your list! And so many of those are on my IRL TBR. I can‘t wait to be done with school and read more. 3y
sprainedbrain I love that NA replaced P&P! 🥰🥰🥰 3y
alisiakae 🙌🏽🙌🏽😍 Great 5⭐️ list! I read Good Talk this year and it will be in my list too! (edited) 3y

MeganAnn @Chrissyreadit many of yours were on my TBR as well! 3y
MeganAnn @sprainedbrain I completely identified with Catherine. She sort of reminds me of myself when I was young... raised in a small town with a close knit family, loves to read, believes the best of people, and naive about the rest of the world but ready to venture out into it. I very much was like her when I left home for college.❤️ We will see if my opinion changes after read the rest of Austen‘s novels. 3y
MeganAnn @4thhouseontheleft I‘m so happy to see that! It was fantastic! 😍 3y
Peddler410 I‘m so glad you liked Rumble 😊 I have Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy on my shelf — it‘s been there awhile, probably because of Litsy — and almost ended up in the weed pile. 3y
