I try to like science fiction/fantasy, but I just don't.

Really wanted to like this, but it's just not my jam.

A four hour audiobook that took me 2 weeks to finish.

Aims42 I love the hashtag, that‘s perfect! 2w

Bailedbailed

I just can‘t connect with the material at all. Sometimes I enjoy uncovering lives different than my own, but her reactions to her martial crisis and giving up her child for adoption just don‘t make sense to me. Also, some points were belabored enough to drive me batty!

I don‘t think this is a terrible book, but it‘s not right for me. #ItsNotYouItsMe

Seems like I chose the right #botm because I‘ve bailed on two others from the library!

Cinfhen Uh oh, I bought this one 😜 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen lol. 😜 you‘ll probably be able to relate to it on some level as a married person. It‘s just not right for me as someone who doesn‘t desire that or kids. Sometimes I can deal with books exploring issues of marital trust. Other times I just am so far from being able to relate to it, I just can‘t enjoy it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
Cinfhen I‘ll let u know 😚it‘s another book waiting for me in Florida 🥳 2y
MicheleinPhilly I just got this from the library. I‘ll let you know @cinfhen 2y

Bailedbailed

I‘m just not feeling this. The premise is kinda cool - that the NYC boroughs are represented by avatars, but 30% in, I know I‘m not going to continue with the series. While the #audiobook narration is awesome, I‘m just not connecting with the material. I can‘t push through another 11 hours. #itsnotyouitsme??

emilyhaldi I don‘t think this one is for me either 🙅🏻‍♀️ 2y
Megabooks @emilyhaldi no, I can‘t see you liking this. 2y
BarbaraBB I am kind of glad you bailed too! @emilyhaldi don‘t even try it 😀 2y

Cinfhen I bailed too!!!!! 🙈 2y
Cinfhen Now I need to find a different title for #AAM 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen Soubhi will count a bail towards aam. I think the point is to try new authors, but whatever your own goals are is up to you, obviously. 2y
Cinfhen I‘m still gonna try another but I‘ll ONLY #BorrowNotBuy ...I‘m trying to cut my book spending in 2021 😉 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen oh yeah, this is a library copy! She‘s too out of my wheelhouse to buy. 2y

I‘m up late, and I‘m trying to get into this for the second time. Her particular writing style is just not working for me. I can still return it, and it was rather expensive. Back it goes. #ItsNotYouItsMe 🤷🏻‍♀️

#itsnotyouitsme I have never enjoyed reading non fiction and if I had realised this was a non fictional biography of the author‘s family rather than a story about a hare with amber eyes I never would have picked it up.

The netsuke barely feature in this story beyond a couple of sentences mostly they lived in a cupboard here, few of them are described but based on this they are exactly the kind of item I would collect 👇

BookwormM What I did enjoy about the book was learning that Charles Ephrussi features in Proust‘s Swanns Way and that he was a regular feature of society. The family are Jewish and it was interesting the way literature and media were used to comment and read into this fact. I think it is incredible that the netsuke survived the Nazis and I appreciated them going back to Japan with Iggie. For me though this was a dry account of history I never “felt” it (edited) 2y
CafeMom I liked this book but it was a miss with my book club. 2y
LapReader Such a gorgeous book. So educational. 2y

Just swapped out Theft By Finding for this audiobook🎧🤓David Sedaris was wayyyy too dark ( I don‘t mind the words P*ssy, ejaculation, bosoms or crotch but it honestly became too much. Not to mention all of his inappropriate comments/jokes. I was only an hour in and it was 1983) Sorry, David #ItsNotYouItsMe

Megabooks Theft by Finding is near the bottom of my choices from him. I‘ve only read it twice, which is low for a Sedaris. This book, Minor Dramas, however is great! I read the print, so I hope you like the audiobook 💖💖 3y
Cinfhen The audio is great @Megabooks It‘s Julia Whelan 🙌🏻This is another book I think Steph& Brooke would love! don‘t you think ??? @Reviewsbylola @britt_brooke 💚💚 3y
Cinfhen And I think @JennyM and @KarenUK would like this book too!!! 3y

KarenUK Oooh thanks for the heads up! Just put it on hold at the library.... Sounds like just my cup of tea! ☕️💕😘 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen Stacking - thanks! And I warned you about the Sedaris. 😜 I liked it but definitely prefer his essays. 3y
Cinfhen I‘ve been listening all day to the audio / it‘s great @britt_brooke @KarenUK and the Sedaris was just not working for me!!! I also prefer his essays, these snippets he shares are really twisted ( yeah, I get it‘s Sedaris!!!) 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen 😙😙 I‘m happy you switched off and found a book that works better for you! 3y
Cinfhen Thanks @britt_brooke Hope you‘re all doing ok!!! 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen Hanging in there! Hope y‘all are, too. 💚 Extra thankful for books right now! 3y
JennyM Thanks lovely. I shall be looking this up and #stacking 😘 3y

It took me soooooo long to read this book. I should have DNF'd, but so many people love it that I needed to see what I was missing. Unfortunately, it was buried in so many metaphors that I could hardly find the plot. I'm sorry to anyone that loved it. #itsnotyouitsme

Bailedbailed

I'm bailing. There's nothing wrong with the writing, in fact I've loved other books written by these two, but this isn't doing it for me. YA is really hit or miss for me and I'm encountering more misses the older I get. 🤷‍♀️ #itsnotyouitsme #probably

Cathythoughts I‘m not a YA fan ... sometimes the only way to go is bail 3y
bookandbedandtea @Cathythoughts Absolutely! I have so many books I want to read and limited reading time. If it's not working it's gotta go! 3y

Bailedbailed

When you find yourself thinking, “I can‘t wait to finish this so I can move on to something else,” it‘s time to bail. Amber Tamblyn is a badass. No question about that. But this felt like a celebrity memoir regurgitating the events of the #metoo movement. What I wanted was a collection of insightful essays. Not to relive all the gross moments of the last few years, from a lens that was full of name dropping and unrelatable. #itsnotyouitsme

Bailedbailed

Ooooohhhhh... I'm sorry, y'all. Neil Gaiman just isn't for me. And life is too short for books I don't love.

I can appreciate his talent & can see why he is so beloved. Just not to my taste. #itsnotyouitsme

KathyWheeler As long as you understand why he‘s so beloved.😄 I totally get an author just not being for you. I have issues with Michael Chabon. 4y
SaturnDoo I am so with you about Gaiman. I have read 3 books by him and I finally said no more!!! 4y
CouronneDhiver Me either. I get it 4y
