OMG this book was so intense and also really good. I enjoyed it so much more than the other Joe Hill book I read (Horns). The characters were great, though the story felt a little long at times.

1st - Mark me down for 11 more points #TeamStoker #Scarathlon
2nd - This is my entry for “about a vampire” & “number in title” #ScaryScavengerHunt
3rd - Freezer Book for #BBRC #GrowUp cause this book is a terror!

Dracula | Bram Stoker

Even though I‘m #teamslaughter, I had my heart set on reading Dracula this October so I just listened to it this weekend during our epic road trip. Not terribly scary, but a more layered and developed story than I had anticipated! Really quite a good read and Simon Vance is always an amazing narrator. 5pts (I think) #scarathlon #bbrc #growup #freezerbook #readmyowndamnbooks

What to say about Evvie Drake? I kept thinking while reading this how human Evvie is - she‘s flawed and complicated, and there were times I could totally relate to her. The middle of this book is the slowest part. I liked this one. My #Newin2019 for #Booked2019 and my #Newin20192020 for #GrowUp #BBRC .

I finished the #buddyread for #teamslaughter! Didn‘t love the narrator on the audio, had some issues with language used (especially regarding the child with special needs) and the overall female characters but I did enjoy the surprise reveals and twists to the story. Carrying the “triptych” theme with a three act story was clever too. 11pts - black cover. #scarathlon #bbrc #growup #neverendingseries

kamoorephoto I‘m having trouble with the writing style, I guess??! The character? 1w
Sarahreadstoomuch @kamoorephoto yes, I know what you mean. Is it dated writing? Are the characters harder to like on purpose? Even Will, who I think you are supposed to be sympathetic but he still has conflicting character traits. Maybe not supposed to root for anyone? Well, John... but that‘s almost secondary. 1w
kamoorephoto @Sarahreadstoomuch That might be what it is: conflicting character traits, not being able to like the people, and also feeling wholly uncomfortable with some of these situations and settings too. I can imagine Decatur and Atlanta and it‘s feeling too triggering. I can also I usually don‘t have too much of an issue with that putting me off reading but right now it is 😟 1w

Wow. Wow. Wow! What a beautiful book. Lovely writing. Characters you care about. Unable to put down. Haven‘t gotten through a book that quick in a long time. So good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is my #BBRC #GrowUp New in 2019/2020 selection and a replacement book for my original #20booksby2020 (my mood and library holds took me elsewhere).

Book 271 10/3/19

Under Currents | Nora Roberts

Pickpick

I‘ve not read one of Roberts‘ stand alone novels for some time, but was so glad I picked up this one. I was hooked from the beginning with the horrors Zane and Britt face as kids. Flash forward years later to find under currents in their community. Darby, who recently has moved to the community, is also escaping a past. There was a tiny section that dragged for me, but other than that, it was a good Roberts novel and a good romantic suspense.⬇️⬇️

StayCurious Use this for BBRC - Grown Up New York Times bestseller I think is one of the categories 🙂 3w
Librarybelle Oh - thanks @StayCurious ! I‘ll look at the hashtag and mark it here and on the form. 😁 3w
Librarybelle This also works for #BBRC #GrowUp #NYTBestSeller . Thanks @StayCurious - I‘m glad we‘re #BBRC buddies! @LibrarianRyan 3w

Owlizabeth Okay, my one quibble? As soon as I heard “Mr. Bingley” I knew the stalker was her ex. After the pointed Mr. Willoughby conversation, I couldn‘t believe they didn‘t figure it out sooner!! *end rant* 3w
Librarybelle @Owlizabeth I know!! It‘s was an eye rolling moment for me! 3w
LibrarianRyan Yeahhh 3w
Lizpixie This was my first Nora Roberts. I‘ve always skipped over her thinking she was a romance writer but I won this book in an instagram giveaway and really enjoyed it. I now have two more of hers on audio & three on reserve at the library!👍 3w
Librarybelle @Lizpixie Hope you enjoy the others! Her stand alone books I‘ve read I‘ve enjoyed for the most part. The exception is High Noon - I just couldn‘t get into that one, for some reason. 3w

This was a really weird yet engrossing book. Part is historical accounts of Lincoln and the other is a historical fiction ghost story.

Took a bit of a reading break or slowdown, but just finished this and loved it! French is a #favoriteauthor of mine, and this standalone was so different than her others. Just wonderfully rich, excellent dialogue, perfect narrator for the audio, and has an ending I never saw coming. #bbrc #growup

I was very interested in the story of the schoolgirls taken by Boko Haram, and this does tell their story sort of. It‘s just hard with the way the journalist-author injects herself into the story and her cold, often far too slow narration on the audio. She is clearly a journalist and not one who writes or conveys information with regard to emotion. #uggghhh #bbrc #growup

LibrarianRyan Uggggghhhhhhh sorry. 1mo
Sarahreadstoomuch @LibrarianRyan it was going to be my “new in 2019/20” selection, but became the Ugggghhhhhh. Reality cannot be denied, unfortunately. 1mo

3 🌟 I will say right up front the story line is a 4 star read, the illustrations are a 2 star. Why do men feel the need to draw women, even fantasy women so scantily clad, with extremely large breasts and tiny waists. . A crazy adult has figured out how to spot fairies, and now wants their power, and will do anything to get it. There are places that this story can go. Now if only it had a better illustrator.

KathyWheeler That business with drawing women makes me crazy! My husband showed me a picture of one of the women in a Dresden Files graphic novel, and her breast and waist sizes were ridiculous. Jim Butcher always inappropriately brings in descriptions of women‘s breasts, but this was even more insane than that. 2mo
LibrarianRyan @KathyWheeler exactly. I purposely didn‘t choose one of those pictures. 2mo

Oldschool_millenial I grew up reading comics and I'm at the point where I shake my head and move on. Luckily my dad, a comic book/graphic novel illustrator, at the very least draws women with real proportions. He is guilty of drawing scantily-clad and/or naked women, but he tries to imbue them with dignity so that they are more than just eye candy. 2mo
