A comprehensive look at the policies and actions that have led to the current immigration crisis in the US. This is undoubtedly well-written and thoroughly researched, but it did lose me at times.
Still, many of the stories shocked me - how can a government deport teenagers to countries they left as babies? And the stories of children being separated from their parents at the border is absolutely heartbreaking.
This fantastic book closely follows the stories of hardship and determined effort to escape intolerable life threatening situations by four Central American immigrants and their families as well as the political ecosystems in all affected countries which push and pull immigration policy in one direction or another. It‘s an absolute must read for anyone who wants to grasp the how and especially the why of the ongoing crises in Central America.
A change of genre.
Let‘s see how this 1950s political novel is. I love the cover! My copy is very much an original with very brittle pages /binding.
I spent most of my time as a #longtimefed more or less in the realm of soft power. It‘s another topic I can‘t possibly do justice to in 451 characters, except to say I know whereof I speak when it comes to this area.

Then we humiliate Zelenskyy in the WH.*
I was influenced into buying the TikTok bookshelf. I love it! I‘m thankful my husband helped me (read: did it himself) put it together because it was complex. Thinking about getting another….its so nice that it doesn‘t have to go against a wall.
I could honestly repost Mulvaney‘s entire conversation, but I think I‘ll just highlight this. #mulvaney #mickmulvaney #thedivider #peterbaker #susanglasser #ukraine #russia #foreignpolicy #corruption #donaldtrump #impeachment #presidency #internationalpolitics #worldhistory #history #politicalscience
A long, quite involved audiobook about the state of immigration in the United States by way of Mexico and elsewhere in Central America. Blitzer goes back to cover a history of immigration, including policies and the political climate around the topic, and continues into the present day. He profiles individuals to humanize the topics of deportation, detention, and even parent-child separation at the border. ..to be continued in 2025 😱
