This was so fantastic! How have I not read it before? This was the last Austen on my list, mostly because I know the recent BBC adaptation so well. Austen surprises me again and again with her heart and wit. Mr. Woodhouse is my absolute favorite! I wish I found my family members‘ idiosyncrasies as charming.

A perfect way to imagine spending time in England. Next up: France! #backpackeurope #bookreview

Morr_Books I love that adaptation as well. Mr Woodhouse is a hoot! 6y
TEArificbooks My favorite Austen 6y
ReadZenRites When they are family members‘ idiosyncrasies, we just call them annoying. 😁💕 6y

sammisho Yas!!! Other people who love Emma! When I did my #emmareadalong, so many people didn't love it. Its my second fave after PnP. 6y
KatieCarpenter Love Emma!! 6y
Linsy @sammisho Really? I‘m surprised! It‘s definitely now one of my faves. But it‘s so hard to choose! For comedy, I‘d definitely pick P&P and Emma. But I also just love S&S and Persuasion so much!! 6y
Linsy @ReadZenRites Lol, good point! 😆 6y

Yes, Emma is vain, and shallow, spoiled and privileged. She is a snob, and sticks her nose in where it doesn't belong. Even Jane said she wrote an unlikeable character. But Emma is also kind and generous. She tries to be a good friend, she is a good daughter. She has a a good heart and the best intentions.
And Knightly, is perfect for her. He calls her out on her shit, and loves her despite her flaws. The best kind of love story.

Finished this reread the last day of April, so just in time for the #janeaustenreadalong. I must confess that while I was reading this I had the characters from the 1996 production in my head, together with the Clueless adaptation.

At its core the book is about 21 year old Emma Woodhouse who has decided never to get married, but she believes she is the perfect matchmaker for her friends. This off course leads to misunderstandings and drama.

Vagablonde My absolute favourite Austen. 6y
AnneCecilie @Vagabond I'm rereading the six Austen novels and have to wait with the ranking until after everyone is read. This did feel more like a novel, in that it didn't end as soon as there had been a marriage proposal that had been accepted. (edited) 6y
sammisho @Vagablonde Yes! Another Emma lover! So many other littens didn't enjoy it during our readalong! I was so surprised. It is my second favorite Austen 6y

Mehso-so

It had been almost 15 years since I had read this one and getting back into it reminded me almost immediately how much I am not a fan of Emma. She is unwise to say the least in her decisions to meddle and matchmake. She is shallow in many ways. But as I read along, maybe it is my added years of experience this time around, I judged her less harshly. Not my favorite of Austen's but still... ❤

theresidentromantic I may have to bail on Emma. I cannot get into this book! Maybe Sense and Sensibility will be better? 6y
CoffeeNBooks I'm so excited to join the Sense & Sensibility read-along! 6y
sammisho @theresidentromantic A lot of people rank SnS up there with PnP, and so you might like it a lot more than Emma. Emma is my second favorite Austen, and I have been really surprised by how many fellow readalongers have not enjoyed it! I totally scheduled PnP and Emma as the first two thinking that we should start with the best...shows what I know! 6y
sammisho @CoffeeNBooks Happy to have you! 6y
Faibka Thanks @sammisho ! Just finished P&P! Review to be posted soon and have S&S ready! 😆 6y
Eyelit Thanks for the reminder! 6y
AnneCecilie I hope to finish Emma today and will then be ready for S&S in May 6y
AshleyHoss820 April was INSANE for me! I am deep into Proust right now and I had to lay Emma aside for a bit! If I can finish both before May‘s over, I may jump onto the S&S train! 😄 6y
Caroline2 Thanks for the reminder, can‘t wait to start S&S! 👏🏻 😃 and yes, April was a crazy crazy month! I‘m actually really glad it‘s over! 6y
OriginalCyn620 I‘ll be reading Sense & Sensibility! 😀 6y
Pamwurtzler Thanks for the reminder! I‘m ready for 6y
sammisho @AshleyHoss820 @Caroline2 May already looks like its going to be just as crazy! If we could just fast forward to June please? 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m way behind too, and will probably be reading Emma in May and Sense and Sensibility in June at the rate I‘m going!😱 6y
readinginthedark I know what you mean! Maybe I‘ll be able to catch-up in May... 6y
Austen_Nerd I read Emma and looking forward Sense and Sensibility. When Mrs. Elton speaks it sounds like fingers on a chalkboard!! 6y
Bostonmomx2 I just discovered this readalong today. Found a free copy so thought I‘d join in. Can someone PLEASE tag me in a post with the reading schedule? I haven‘t come across that yet. Thanks!! @sammisho 6y

I‘ve finished Emma. I don‘t see it being a favorite, but it wasn‘t bad. Not great in my opinion though. Emma was a hard character to like. I loved Mr. Knightly and loved to hate Mrs. Elton.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Jen_Reads @sammisho I found this copy on my roommates shelves and commandeered it as my own! I think with this one I enjoyed watching the mini series more than I enjoyed the actual book. 6y
sammisho I also love the movie with Gwenyth Paltrow! 6y
rustoryhuf I find Emma a bit spoiled, but she does have some redeeming qualities. I too, loved the BBC Emma adaption. 6y
