mcctrish I think Charlotte did help #theleastshecoulddoafterthelavishmuddle 9mo
Ruthiella @mcctrish Agree! A little sad Mr. Beebe wasn‘t on board, but I can also understand his frustration at being used. 9mo

mcctrish @Ruthiella his reaction seems over the top to me but I think the main point is George and Lucy are so meant to be ( unlike the fiasco ) they don‘t need approval 9mo
dabbe Get over it, Mr. Beebe and Lucy's family! Reach a little more into that 20th century! 🤩🤣🤩 9mo
Bookwormjillk I thought that chapter was really sweet. I think Charlotte helped too. 9mo
Clare-Dragonfly I found the ending unsatisfying 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think Forster skips over stuff I‘d like to know more about and extends stuff I‘d rather get through quickly. 9mo
Morr_Books I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed all the comments y'all made throughout. In the last chapter, I thought the dialog with the Italian was a weird way to tell the audience that they were married. Also, I too believe Charlotte helped (aka redeemed herself a bit). 9mo
Bklover I would love to have seen a bit more of the in- between part. I loved this book, but it ended so abruptly. And I really can‘t see why everyone‘s so angry about them. If her mother loves her, wouldn‘t she want her happy? Oh, and I like how she mentioned coming in to her money next year, so we don‘t have to picture them poor 😉 9mo
Bklover Oh, has anyone read the appendix? Apparently Forster wrote an appendix in 1958 telling what happened “after”. I just read the summary. Didn‘t like it. It said only some versions of the book contained the appendix. 9mo
eeclayton @Clare-Dragonfly @Bklover I agree. Just like the missing Rome chapters earlier, we go from denial to poof-they-are-on-their-honeymoon. That said, I did enjoy the book, I just think some more chapters could have been added. 9mo
julieclair I don‘t think Charlotte actually helped, but rather chose not to hinder. And I would have liked to have learned more of Charlotte‘s backstory. 9mo

The Bashful Bride | Vanessa Riley

Mehso-so

A woman meets a man through a personal ad originally intended for her friend. She is Blackamoore and he is her favorite actor. She suggests elopement to escape an arranged marriage her parents want for her. He agrees because of his past as well as a passion for abolition. The female MC can be annoying due to constant doubts. Elopement isn‘t easy due to their differences.

Another dollar tree find. Told entirely in poetry from Mary Shelley‘s point of view. I know I‘ve read other books about her and Percy. It was alright. Quick to read due to the poetry. I‘m just glad to get some old ones off my shelf and tbr.

Pickpick

So fun fact to those who noted my distress on Tuesday I had heard this one!! Lol I realized it about 1/4 through it, but it was no less enjoyable the second time around. I do recommend this one, but only after you've read the original four and can see the similarities and the family pride. #romantsy

I cannot for the life of me remember if I've read this one. I've read all the others and the first few chapters have been familiar, but I have no idea if I'm rereading it or not. I don't actually care, I'm listening to it anyway, but not knowing is driving me bonkers. #ohitsonlytuesday

This is one of the rare times I will say I liked the movie better than the book. But I do love the #carriage art on this cover. I also enjoyed the subplot featuring Lydia and Wickham after their #elopement.

April Lady | Georgette Heyer

#Elopement (or the fear of it, at least) figures into the plot of these two Georgette Heyer novels.

LeahBergen @mabell Lady of Quality/April Lady - I‘ll probably mix these two up, too. 😆 6y
LeahBergen @DeborahSmall No, all of her books are stand-alones. She‘s like Jane Austen-Light. 😄 6y

Lydia and Wickham's story was reckless and disappointing for their time but Clark Gable and Carole Lombard's #elopement during the filming of GWTW was one for the books. A secret romance and marriage that eventually ended in tragedy but still one of Hollywood's great love stories. Although Gable went on to marry after his wife's untimely death, she was still the love of his life. #relationshipgoals #150PnPCoverParty
