"Graceful and exciting ... the best kind of 'escape' story." LIBRARY JOURNAL What seems a marriage of convenience... When young newlywed Lady Nell Cardross begins to fill her days with fashion and frivolity, the earl has to wonder whether she really did marry him for his money, as his family so helpfully suggests. And now Nell doesn't dare tell him the truth ... Is getting trickier all the time... He thought he was marrying for love, but between his concern over his wife's spending sprees, rescuing her impulsive brother from one scrape after another, and attempting to prevent his own half sister from a disastrous elopement, it's no wonder the muchtried earl can't see where he's gone wrong ... "Georgette Heyer has done it again ... It's the sheer fun of reading on a high entertainment level. For such an experience, April Lady is tops. It's downright delicious." CHICAGO SUNDAY TRIBUNE

Another delightful Georgette Heyer romance. It was fun and clever that the romance took place between a couple who were already married because you don‘t see that too often in the genre. A few good laughs and a sweet ending which left me happy.

Carolyn11215 I love Georgette Heyer! 5y
LeahBergen And now I feel like picking up a Heyer. 😍 5y
KerriNTurner @Carolyn11215 I‘m relatively new to her books, but absolutely hooked! 5y
KerriNTurner @LeahBergen they‘re currently my go-to feel-good books 😊 5y

April Stats. The little Black Penguin Classics changed my years reading plan a lot. I‘ve already updated my GRchallenge from 50 to 80. I wanted to read chunksters but I also promised that I will only read what I feel like, and atm it is shorter books😊

also only three MTBR books this month #mountTBRchallenge

Bought two new books but read them both, so at least nothing new for my MTBR😊

#Elopement (or the fear of it, at least) figures into the plot of these two Georgette Heyer novels.

Keepin' a pretty steady pace each month. Favorite this month was 'Killers of the Flower Moon', but I also LOVED Ove, Fortress, Brave New World, Roanoke, Lindbergh.... a great month! 💖

Really good month for me! I want to be better about reading more nonfiction in the future. It was super hard to pick just three favorites there were so many good books this month. Looking forward to what May has in store!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Wow!! That's awesome!! 😊👍🏻 7y
Literaryunicorn I am also really bad at reading non-fiction but I've been making a concerted effort this year. Doing better, and learning lots of cool stuff! 7y

Texreader I did miss it so thanks! Going to try to start fresh in April. March just got away from me. 7y
sprainedbrain @RealLifeReading Would you mind sharing what app you use to make your lists each month? They are always so pretty, and I can't figure out how to make columns like you do. 😃 (edited) 7y
RealLifeReading @sprainedbrain sure I use Font Candy. You have to split the text into two blocks. It doesn't actually allow columns 7y

Poor Nell finds herself deeply in love in what she thinks is a marriage of convenience with her husband. The husband unfortunately believes she married him for his money. When she runs up a bill that must be paid Nell doesn't want to tell her husband and risk him thinking the worst of her so a deception begins that quickly spins out of control...
