AllDebooks Yay, so thrilled you still love it. I hate rereading a book, then struggling to see what I liked about it. Well done on ✔️ off so many prompts 👏😀 1y
Librarybelle I really need to read this one 1y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 1y
Bluebird @Librarybelle me too! I‘m embarrassed to admit I‘ve not yet read anything by Daphne du Maurier. She‘s been on my radar since my college days but somehow I never got around to any. 1y
Librarybelle @Bluebird The only I have read is Rebecca, which is so good! I have a copy of My Cousin Rachel which I hope to read sometime this year. 1y
Bluebird @Librarybelle Those 2 and Jamaica Inn are the ones I keep hearing about. I am going to make a point of reading at least one before years end! Thanks to you and @jenniferw88 for prodding me to finally read Daphne du Maurier! 1y

PuddleJumper Brilliant! 1y
TheAromaofBooks I found Jamaica Inn to be a bit too depressing for my taste, but I'll be interested to hear what you think!! 1y
Librarybelle Oh! Jamaica Inn…on my to read list! 1y

jenniferw88 @TheAromaofBooks I loved it the first time round, but it was at least 12 years ago now and I know I like the Gothic genre. It helps that I have relatives in that part of Cornwall so have actually visited the inn! 1y
Cinfhen I liked Jamaica Inn 😁you‘re knocking out lots of prompts with just 2 books🙌🏻 1y
Cortg This makes my head spin! Good luck with your challenges 😄 1y
BarbaraBB So so many challenge prompts 👍🏽 1y
AllDebooks Well that's a good fit. Ss good as finding the last jigsaw piece. Enjoy!!! X 1y

I don‘t think I ever got around to posting a review for the first Pat book, so I‘ll review both now.

When we first meet Pat she‘s 6 yrs old and when the story ends she in her late 20s. She doesn‘t like change, love her family and friends and Christmas.

So there‘s not much happening in these books, but I loved them and Pat, Jingle and Judy.

Gaudy Night | Dorothy L. Sayers

Pickpick

During our vacation, we toured the Oxford colleges, including Somerville, Dorothy Sayer‘s alma mater.

That motivated me to read Gaudy Night, which describes really well the experiences of the college women at that time.

BarbaraBB Such a great trip! 2y
batsy Oh, fun! I love Gaudy Night. 2y
Librarybelle Oh! Sounds like a fantastic trip! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 2y
kwmg40 @BarbaraBB @batsy @Librarybelle @TheAromaofBooks Thank you! Oxford is great for book lovers. There are literary references everywhere. A Thames cruise was even more exciting because the boat was named “Pantalaimon“ (from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials)! 2y

Blandings Castle | P. G. Wodehouse
post image
Mehso-so

I hate to be curmudgeonly about a Wodehouse, but I didn‘t enjoy this audiobook. The reader, with a deep, ponderous voice, didn‘t fit the sprightlyness of the characters that makes Wodehouse fun. (Though his voice was well suited for McCallister, the gardener!) But I didn‘t care for the book itself either. Only the first half was dedicated to Blandings, and the other half are random and Hollywood-based stories.

mabell I liked my first introduction to Blandings, however; and my favorite story was probably Lord Elmsworth and the Girl Friend. ❤️ 2y
Librarybelle The wrong voice narrator can certainly make a book less enjoyable. I‘ve not read anything with Blandings - very interesting! 2y
mabell @Librarybelle I liked the Blandings stories, but for truly ridiculous humor, I still think Bertie and Jeeves can‘t be beat! 😄 2y

The Breast #1972

In May:

Libby1 Have you read much Gunter Grass? I might be going to Gdańsk (GG was born there) later this year and was interested in looking into his work. If you‘ve read his books is there one you‘d suggest to start with. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Libby1 Sadly, no I haven‘t read any of his works. 6y
Sarah83 @Libby1 Maybe you can start with this one 6y
