Jane Austen turns sleuth in this delightful Regency-era mystery November, 1815. The Battle of Waterloo has come and gone, leaving the British economy in shreds; Henry Austen, high-flying banker, is about to declare bankruptcydragging several of his brothers down with him. The crisis destroys Henrys health, and Jane flies to his London bedside, believing him to be dying. While shes there, the chaplain to His Royal Highness the Prince Regent invites Jane to tour Carlton House, the Princes fabulous London home. The chaplain is a fan of Janes books, and during the tour he suggests she dedicate her next novelEmmato HRH, whom she despises. However, before she can speak to HRH, Jane stumbles upon a bodysprawled on the carpet in the Regents library. The dying man, Colonel MacFarland, was a cavalry hero and a friend of Wellingtons. He utters a single failing phrase: Waterloo map . . . and Jane is on the hunt for a treasure of incalculable value and a killer of considerable cunning.

#JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong discussion post.
1️⃣ The ending! Jane saves the day!

2️⃣ Jane, always Jane.

3️⃣ "Think, clodpole!” (I really want to use that line sometime.)

“To meddlesome women,”

"I refuse to disrupt so completely the tenuous peace of my life. I am done with longing for a gentleman to save me."

4️⃣ Visit Carlton House with JSC. I love looking at houses. And prattling people are easier for me to ignore than angry ones.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 5️⃣ I've come to love Mansfield Park now that I'm no longer, as Jane would say, 'a green girl of sixteen.' Fanny Price has a quiet strength of character that I admire. She deserves better than Edmund but the heart wants what the heart wants.

6️⃣ History of Waterloo. That England's economy suffered with the end of the war. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ This is my 3rd time reading. I've always wondered how Stephanie Barron will end this series. She does her research and is brilliant at weaving mysteries around Jane's real life. Jane is about to turn 40. #Pemberlittens know her story ends at age 41. I plan to have a hanky ready when I read Jane and the Final Mystery.

But first Jane and Cassandra's trip to Cheltenham Spa in Jane and the Year Without a Summer. 📖🎩 👒

He raised his wineglass. Henry and Fanny lifted theirs. “To meddlesome women,” I said.

Throughly enjoyed my reread of Jane and the Waterloo Map. Looking forward to Jane and the Year Without A Summer on February 8th. 🥂🍾 #janetheyearwithoutasummer

My #janeandtheyear2020 - read one a month. Which left this one as extra treat for Jan 2021.

In this timeline Mansfield Park has been published & people have opinions. Has me excited to start reading @sprainedbrain #Pemberlittens.

Love how author weaves stories around real life. I'm excited for upcoming Jane 14. But knowing what I know about IRL Jane, she doesn't have a lot of time left. 🗺🥂🍾 #janeandtheyear2020andbeyond

#TBRtemptation post! Did you know there's a Jane Austen #cozymystery series? This is the 13th installment. Her banker brother, Henry, is about to declare bankruptcy & his ill health spurs Jane to come to his bedside. While there, the chaplain to His Royal Highness suggests she dedicate her next novel, "Emma", to the HRH. She then stumbles upon a dead body in the Regent's library who mentions the map,& the hunt is on. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?
