I‘ve always wondered this myself and totally agree with the above 😆 #themoreyouknow

The bagel, both the humblest and mightiest of all bread forms, is, unsurprisingly, of Yiddish origins. The word that names it comes from that language's word beygl. It is widely speculated (at least by those who do such speculation) that the Yiddish word is descended from the Middle High German word böugel, which is from another German word for ring or bracelet.

CBee I do love a good bagel 🥯 11mo
AmyG I didn‘t know that. Bagels in CO…. 🤢….but that‘s only because I came from the NY suburbs. 😂 11mo
dabbe @AmyG Cheesecake, too? 🤣🤩😍 11mo

dabbe Now you've made me hungry for a bagel with lox and cream cheese! 😋🤣😍 11mo
AmyG @dabbe I LOVE cheesecake and it still seems to be good here. 11mo
willaful My husband usually gets me bagels shipped from New York for my birthday. Anything else is just not the same. 11mo
dabbe @AmyG Thank God! 🤣🤩😍 11mo
dabbe @willaful May I ask which deli? Might have to beg my hubby to do the same. 💙🥯💚 11mo
willaful @dabbe It's called New Yorker Bagels.

They used to send calendars with the order, which were always a great source of hilarity to us, because they showed all these smiling models who you just knew had never eaten a bagel in their entire lives... 😂
11mo
dabbe @willaful 🤣🤣🤣 Trying to picture a gorgeous model holding a bagel with cream cheese on her chin. #surethatsreality 11mo
AmyG @willaful Exactly. Though bagels are excellent in Northern NJ so we bring them back when we visit. 11mo

Was persuaded by @batsy to hop into the buddy read for “The Once and Future King,” a book that‘s been on my TBR for a while. And thus begins this cautionary tale and a word of advice: Don‘t wait too long to read the books you buy. Because that portable, pocket-sized book with the tiny print you bought when you were younger will not be your friend if you wait until you are middle-aged to attempt to read it. #TheMoreYouKnow #YoureWelcome

Julsmarshall Lol! I feel this deeply! 13mo

Amiable @batsy I read chapter 1 and now I'm in. Darn it. 😃 (edited) 13mo
KateReadsYA This post is glorious 🤣🤣🤣 I need to read this one as well. 13mo
batsy @Amiable Yay! It worked its wily magic on me, too. Lol 13mo
Lcsmcat Yes! My copy is mass market paperback size and not only is the print a challenge, so is holding it open! 13mo
marleed Oh I so relate! Funny pic! 13mo
RaeLovesToRead Haha, oh dear! 😅😅 13mo
ravenlee This happened to me with my copies-I‘ve-had-forever-and-will-finally-read of Robinson Crusoe and The House of the Seven Gables. I suffered through the former, but I gave up on the latter and got a library copy. 13mo
quietjenn Yep! I saw your conversation with @batsy and found myself wondering if my copy was still around, but it is definitely a mass market with wee print, and I'm not sure I could do that for 600+ pages these days. 13mo
Amiable @quietjenn I may follow @ravenlee ‘s lead and head for the library. I already checked Libby and there‘s no digital version available there. 😖 13mo
Ruthiella I think its often less the font size for me and more the cheap paper and narrow margins. I‘ve had old paperbacks literally fall apart as I read them. 😆😭 13mo
LeahBergen 😂😂 I feel you! 13mo
dabbe 🤣🤣🤣 There is a larger print copy, but the book itself weighs about 5 pounds! 13mo
SamAnne 😂😂😂 13mo
CarolynM 🤣 13mo
BarbaraJean 😂😂 *Going to my shelves now to immediately prioritize all pocket paperbacks before my eyes get any worse* 13mo
Bluebird 😂😂😂😂 i found this same problem with my copy. I‘m now reading it via audiobook! I‘m afraid to look at some of the other books that have been languishing on my TBR shelves. 😬 13mo

Today I went and got my first manicure in more than a decade. I‘m a nail biter and have been my whole life. I spent the month of July, my birth month, trying to stop with the end goal being a fancy polish colour. I hate dirty nails so summer and gardening is a hot mess time to give oneself this challenge ( did you know soaking in polident gives you white nails? It saved me!) there will be many books and manicure shots henceforth 🤣🤣

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Love it!! 💅 when I was younger I bit my nails and I don‘t remember how I stopped, but somehow I did 🙌🏻 2y
Cortg Congrats! I‘m not a biter, but I hate any length so I‘m always cutting them super short. I love the blue! Enjoy 😊 2y
AmyG Perfect color for summer! 2y

mcctrish @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Covid has certainly helped in my case 🤣🤣 2y
mcctrish @Cortg I totally hear you about the length and truthfully I used to hate how polish felt on my nails ( not my toes for some reason) I am not sold on keeping them this long and I‘m not sure I can afford to maintain this professional elegance either 🤣🤣 (edited) 2y
mcctrish @AmyG whatever it‘s real name is 🤷🏻‍♀️ I‘m calling it swimming pool blue 🤣🤣 2y
LeahBergen They look great! And I‘ve never heard of that Polident trick. 😮 2y
mcctrish @LeahBergen my manicure person said she learned that in school, a lot of times the older ladies just wanted nail care, not polish but your nails yellow with age. So they‘d soak with polident #themoreyouknow (edited) 2y
LeahBergen That‘s good to know as I get into my own “older ladies” years. 😆 2y
mcctrish @LeahBergen I‘ve done it twice this month ( cooking and gardening and I don‘t know what else made a few of my nails disgusting ) 2y
Tamra I had no idea! They look fabulous! 2y
Cathythoughts Nails look great. Thanks for the tip 👍🏻😁 2y
mcctrish @Tamra it‘s a game changer 👏🏻👏🏻 and thank you 2y
mcctrish @Cathythoughts thank you so much and you are welcome, a little soak while you read maybe ? 2y

This was fascinating and more than I expected
Full disclosure I needed an audio book while I waited for a hold to come and I liked the cover. I‘d like this in poster form to remind me to maximize my breathing potential.
Fun fact: if you feel a panic attack coming on or are with someone who is do not take or say “take deep breaths” hold you breath instead. #themoreyouknow

Protege. A gift?
A precious gift?
(What a monster)
Would every child/teen fall for this you think ?
How can we instill from birth this isn‘t okay?
Why don‘t we ?
Did Grace even have a chance ?

Karisa Many kids and adults would be swept up by this type of director. Grace describes him as charming, rich, and powerful. Those types pull others in like a magnet by making them feel special 3y
vlwelser I feel like a kid might not know better but the parents definitely should. Maybe she was singled out because the parents aren't involved. 3y
AmyG @vlwelser I agree about the parents. If someone is grroming a child it would make “sense” they would take the parents into consideration. Who doesn‘t want to feel Special? 3y
See All 13 Comments
JaclynW GROOMING!!!!!!!! (vomit) This is sickening! I think SOOOOO many people would fall for this. People generally loved to feel special and this guy knows that and is using it to his advantage. The parents SHOULD know better,BUT...maybe they are also swept away....@amyg @vlwelser @karisa AND YES, we should be teaching kids to not NEED to seek validation outside of themselves. I think this is easier said than done. It really has to start early I ---> 3y
JaclynW think to be successful. I am betting that most of us would get sucked into this by SOMEONE (maybe not everyone), but someone in our lives could be so charming that we would do almost anything. Maybe teaching how the mind/emotions work would be helpful to kids (and adults). #themoreyouknow They are starting to teach in schools how advertising works and how to find factual news articles - so it could fit in with all of that, right?? 3y
Deblovestoread The parents failed. Their job is to protect the child even when it‘s hard. If they were willing to upend their lives to pursue this opportunity it was their job to see that she was ok every single day. 3y
DebinHawaii I don‘t think she ever had a chance. There were cracks in the family armor already & in a way, the parents were groomed too—set up in such a way that checked all the boxes to make them less likely to question Able‘s ulterior motives but they did fail her by not looking more closely & staying with her. 3y
TheBookHippie @DebinHawaii I wondered that too about the parents. 3y
kspenmoll Agree with all- she was doomed from the start- @DebinHawaii I do agree regarding her parents. Seemed they were also under his spell. I cannot believe they were not on set. 3y
rjsthumbelina @DebinHawaii I agree, the parents were definitely groomed too. Especially by being told that Grace would have Emilia looking after her all the time, which clearly wasn't the case. It's pretty common for sexual predators to try to win over the family even before really winning the kid's trust 3y
mollyrotondo I am very behind but I definitely agree with @DebinHawaii and @rjsthumbelina about the parents being groomed from the start as well. Able set it up so no one would have her back and she would rely only on him. He did fire all of her teachers who tried to guide her. 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick He was charming. Grace wanted fame. The parents wanted to focus on Esme. I'm most disappointed in the mom. If she was a minor model, she should know industry types can be dangerous...or she's a blooming idiot. Hollywood needs better laws for minors. Hell I think animals are better regulated than children. 3y
TheBookHippie @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was just thinking today I‘ve not read one Hollywood memoir with rape/molestation . Just astounds me. 3y

Another amazing book by Atul Gawande!!! We can always strive to be better. Through our medical history we have often thought that we had the best medicine, the best technic, the best treatment, and then along comes someone else who shows us a Better way. I hope I never get so stuck in my ways that I refuse to believe a Better way is possible. #AtulGawande #Nurselife #Better #themoreyouknow #putyourprideaside

A very interesting article about the rise and fall of the Know Nothing Party in the 19th century and its lessons for the modern Republican Party. #TheMoreYouKnow #HistoricalContext

https://apple.news/AS1QVEVJ8Q9-i5Hs6i5s5Ug

That-Bookish-Hiker Very interesting! I first heard about them after watching Dickinson on Apple+ which follows Emily Dickinsons life loosely and her father is running for senate and he mentions them. At first I thought it was made up but nope. Thanks for sharing! 3y
KathyWheeler The first time I heard about this party, I thought it was a joke, but no. 3y
Lcsmcat Thanks for sharing this. I learned about the Know Nothing Party in high school history, but only as a failed presidential bid. I didn‘t know that they had gotten people into state legislatures or the House. 3y

Today I Learned that the term "redneck" actually came from a 1920s coal worker's rebellion, and now songs like "Red Neck Woman" seem gross.
