As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story of the vanishing trail, then disappears himself. Abby has sometimes felt like an outsider within the community, but shes come to view Cutters Pass as her home. Loved the setting, plot was good, but the story just failed to really capture me. It was so slow to pick up that when the turning point happened I was just ready to be done with it. Not her best 😕

Pretty slow start but develops into a nice mystery. I thought it was a pick but then realized I had forgotten I had even read it within 3 days of finishing it. I can‘t even remember the ending. On the Book of the month scale, it would be a “liked it.”

I loved All The Missing Girls but cannot get into this book. The second one a I have DNF'd. She's just not clicking with me, lately. I'm not even going to attempt The Only Survivors. Probably, try to read them another time.

I didn‘t end up enjoying this that much but I did finish it so I‘m giving it a so-so rating. It took a long time for anything to happen. I think I may have liked it more in print. This was the most monotone narration I have ever listened to, and that made the book seem more plodding. Not the best by Megan Miranda in any case.

I‘m enjoying this book but as a North Carolina native my teeth are set on edge every time the narrator says Appalachian.

This book is set in North Carolina and here we say App-ah-LATCH-un. Not Appa-LAY-shun. I just had to get that off my chest. It‘s a pet peeve.

robinb Thanks for clearing that up! I've heard it both ways, but I assumed (wrongly) that the second pronunciation was correct. And I'm in the South and should know better! LOL 11mo
MallenNC @robinb It may not be universal across the South but this is correct in North Carolina. The university, Appalachian State, pronounces it my way. 😀 11mo
robinb @MallenNC In my thinking, if you‘re a native, it‘s correct! 👍 11mo
lauraisntwilder As far as I know, Tennesseans say it your way, too. 11mo

Finished up my #BookSpin book on our first evening of our getaway! 3 wonderful nights away for my birthday - it has even far too long since we‘ve had a family getaway that wasn‘t to our own cabin. Truly the best way to wrap up our first night was finishing up this Megan Miranda book! The twists kept me guessing and, though it was slow at times, I truly enjoyed how everything unfolded. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 @TheAromaofBooks

This is the first book from this author I‘ve read/listened to. I really liked it - I‘m surprised it‘s pick percentage is so low. The audiobook kinda felt like Siri was reading to me, but I really enjoyed the story. I will certainly check out other books by the author.

A disappointing mystery. By the end, I no longer cared who‘d done what, even with the surprise reveals of the last thirty pages. Abigail Lovett was “adopted” by and works at the Passage Inn in Cutters Pass, a town where, across three decades, six people have disappeared. Everyone, including our narrator has secrets and in a final confrontation Abby may be the “last to vanish.” A Reese Witherspoon read; we don‘t share the same tastes.

Miranda is a go to for me, so I‘m a bit miffed that this one didn‘t quite fire. It‘s a super SLOW burn which is not what I needed at this particular moment. The last 20% gets kind of juicy, but also a bit too convoluted. In short, it‘s okay, but missing the pizazz I was expecting.

I saw this title and expected an Agatha Christie type mystery with a pile of characters going down one by one. Ha, wrong! This one sits in the head of its MC, Abby, as she unfolds a 25-year ongoing mystery. And again, I really suck at guessing the culprit.

10-8-22: My 100th finished book of 2022! Cutter‘s Pass is a small town with a strange past. Over the last 25 years several people have gone missing while hiking the Shallow Falls Trail. Abby, an outsider who moved into town 10 years ago, works at the inn and gives hiking tours. When the brother of a missing man comes to town looking for closure, Abby gets pulled into the mix of lies and secrecy only a small town can harbor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

I usually listen to Miranda‘s books and not really like them. I physically read this one & I enjoyed it very much. You really feel for the protagonist Abby as she runs the inn and tries to figure out how so many people have vanished from her town. I liked the reveals at the end. Not the most engaging book but a decent read. It will make me want to try future books from the author.

Bren912 I really enjoy her writing too! 1y

Is anyone who they say they are? Why do people keep disappearing from Cutter‘s Pass? Is no one safe? Abby, still considered and outsider after 10 years, is finally going to get some answers or else. But is someone trying to implicate her or disappear her, too? She‘s not taking no for an answer. I love Megan Miranda novels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Abby was drawn to a mountain town in NC where people have vanished about 10 years ago and she stuck around, even though more have disappeared. Overall, I enjoyed this book, racing through it and not wanting to put it down. That said, it has some big plot holes and some of the ending is a bit of a letdown. But since I found it so engaging, I‘m giving it a low pick.

3.25 stars -The book was okay. The "character development" was more revealed about the character. There were many unanswered questions about Georgia at the end, even though the disappearances were mostly wrapped in a neat little bow, which felt underwhelming. The narration was good though.

I hadn't read any Megan Miranda books until this year. Now, I've read all six of these & really enjoyed them all. My favorites were All the Missing Girls, The Girl from Widow Hills, Such a Quiet Place, & The Last to Vanish the most. She is a great thriller author especially if you aren't into blood & gore. This newest book from her was definitely ⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me. Twisty & tense with great scene setting.

Bette Nice pic ❤️👍📸 2y

A Low So-So

(I‘m not going to lie…I zoned out while listening to this and I don‘t believe I missed anything pertinent; since it was so slow and boring. The ending was sorta decent but not enough to carry the whole book. I wasn‘t going to listen to this Author‘s books anymore….but I read a review where someone said this is her best book yet, so I thought maybe it‘d be different. It wasn‘t.)

MyNamesParadise I feel the same way about her books. I‘m on the holds list for it at my library. Disappointing to hear it‘s not any better. 2y
AudiobookingWithLeah @MyNamesParadise IKR...Right after this book, I listened to The Last Housewife by Ashley Winstead...that one was so much better. 2y

This book remind me of those movies where the heroine is about to open a door while the audience yells don‘t. People have been disappearing form the lodge where Abby is the manager but she just starts to realize something is wrong when a missing reporter‘s brother shows up. Also I didn‘t need the author to repeat over and over that there was only one good spot for Wi-Fi. Slow moving and not a likeable one in the bunch

LKK526 I should have said Abby workrd there for 10 years (edited) 2y

Enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it. This novel is a stretch - different, slower, and less “twisty”, but still intriguing with an entertaining character dive into Abby Lovett, who I liked as the protagonist. I totally relate to the town because my bro is a major hiker - one built for hikers but the people who live there are insular and secretive. I found that plot angle engaging and enjoyable and accurate in portrayal. ScrappyMags.com
