The Wicked Girls
The Wicked Girls: A Novel | Alex Marwood
The Edgar Award-winning psychological thriller that asks the question: How well can you know anyone? On a fateful summer morning in 1986, two eleven-year-old girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, they will both be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside vacation town when her investigation leads her to interview carnival cleaner Amber Gordon. For Kirsty and Amber, its the first time theyve seen each other since that dark day so many years ago. Now with new, vastly different livesand unknowing families to protectwill they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden? Gripping and fast-paced, with an ending that will stay with you long after youve read it, The Wicked Girls will appeal to fans of the Academy Awardnominated film Heavenly Creatures and the novels of Rosamund Lupton and Chevy Stevens.

This was my #bookspin for January, and I was able to make it work for an older #TBRTarot prompt(June 2023–book that begins with a prologue).
Per the synopsis on the back: “On a fateful summer morning in 1986, two 11 year old girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, they will both be charged with murder.”
I found this to be a dark, twisty and at times sad book.

Disappointing. After reading the Next Door Neighbor I thought this book would be much better than it was and when they killed the dogs I was completely done with it and didn't care what happened to the girls.... I finished it and was just blah... Marwood is a talented writer but this story just went round and round, was like watching paint dry. Note to all authors: never kill the pets. Never. 🐾🐾📚

Meh. I skimmed a lot. I wanted to know the end, but not so much that I wanted to read every word.

It‘s cold. But I don‘t have to go anywhere. So I‘m under a gazillion blankets. I put this book down awhile ago and forgot about it. It didn‘t really grab me. Maybe I‘ll finish it today.

I spent the afternoon audio-cleaning my kitchen. Even the inside of the freezer is sparkling. Taking a break from the audiobook, to charge my phone, and diving into this one.

Thanks to #TeamDracula, I bumped this audiobook up on my TBR! I enjoyed it but I think I would recommend the print version because some of the transitions between perspectives were a little confusing here... but the story itself is fascinating and I think will lead to good discussion! And, as always, it‘s great background for #AudioColoring

I wasn‘t sure if I was going to like this book in the beginning. I was a bit confused about the characters from the past and present of the story. I got the hang of it and I‘m glad I stuck with it. I liked the 2 main characters and really enjoyed the ending. It was pretty moving for me considering it‘s a thriller.

Teipu That bunny is awesome! Looks slightly creepy. 6y

Waiting in line at the movie theatre for my bestie- we're going to see a free advanced screening of 'Home Again tonight.
So I figured I'd start my book club selection while she arrives. 🤓

🤓📚🤗❣ #LibraryHaul #BookHaul #Thrillers #ForTheLoveOfBooks #BookClubPick

Very pleased with my Labor Day weekend library haul which includes my book club's latest read, 'The Wicked Girls.'

But the one I've been anticipating the most of these has to be Nicci French's latest psychological thriller- her Freida Klein series is one of my top 5 favorite thriller series.

This book immediately sprang to mind as a really good thriller based on a crime committed by two young girls and what happens to them as adults- i must read more by the author as it was definitely a page turner.
I was also going to give a shout out for Alex by Pierre lemaitre who is a really exceptional heroine with a nasty side.

Update: Comma splices have added to the hardship.

I've been trying to read the book for three days. There are so many fragments that it hinders the reader from enjoying the book. I'm trying not to bail but lord it's hard.

Just finished this one for a book club, and it was mediocre at best. It was fine, but not especially gripping. I didn't care about any of the characters, and none of them developed at all. I also saw the ending coming a mile away which was disappointing.

The book I'm currently reading takes place by the sea. It's like the line from Morrissey's song, "It's the costal town they forgot to close down." It takes place around an aging fun fair.
