The Haunting of Brynn Wilder
The Haunting of Brynn Wilder | Wendy Webb
From the #1 Amazon Charts bestselling author of Daughters of the Lake comes an enthralling spellbinder of love, death, and a woman on the edge. After a devastating loss, Brynn Wilder escapes to Wharton, a tourist town on Lake Superior, to reset. Checking into a quaint boardinghouse for the summer, she hopes to put her life into perspective. In her fellow lodgers, she finds a friendly company of strangers: the frail Alice, cared for by a married couple with a heartbreaking story of their own; LuAnn, the eccentric and lovable owner of the inn; and Dominic, an unsettlingly handsome man inked from head to toe in mesmerizing tattoos. But in this inviting refuge, where a century of souls has passed, a mystery begins to swirl. Alice knows things about Brynn, about all of them, that she shouldn't. Bad dreams and night whispers lure Brynn to a shuttered room at the end of the hall, a room still heavy with a recent death. And now she's become irresistibly drawn to Dominic--even in the shadow of rumors that wherever he goes, suspicious death follows. In this chilling season of love, transformation, and fear, something is calling for Brynn. To settle her past, she may have no choice but to answer.

This story was set during the summer but with those fall vibes of haunted place. Brynn was in a grief process and was invited by a friend to spend the summer in Wharton. But there were rumors that the place she decided to stay, is haunted. As a expected Brynn started to feel, see and hear things which seem to be connected with her present and probably other lives.
What I like about this author is that her stories are so atmospheric ⬇️

Gissy It is a slow pace story, character driver. It is a gloomy, sad story but I don‘t know I liked it. The narrator in the audiobook adds this melancholic tone.
Apparently this is a second book of Daughter of the Lake but it didn‘t bothers me. I think this author has this distinctive way to write similar to Darcy Coates, in that slow pace, atmospheric stories, well, at least similar to me.

THE HAUNTING OF BRYNN WILDER by Wendy Webb - I was completely bewitched by this story, it kept me engaged until the very end. The cast of characters are charming, and quirky, it really makes this book feel real. I think no matter what genre you are comfortable with, this book would be enjoyed by all.

I quite liked this.

There are ghosts/visions, and mysteries, and romance.
But it is mostly about a woman spending summer in a close-knit place, making connections with other summer residents and townsfolk, and learning to overcome her grief and move on with her life.

I did guess one (and a half?) of the twists but it was still an enjoyable read ☺️

As usual I am sticking with the one roll.

My #Roll100 for August will be The Haunting of Bryan Wilder

I got this as an Amazon first reads a while ago. Unsure what to expect as the blurb promises a gothic horror vibe, but litsy reviews suggest a hallmark romance 🤣

Either way, I‘m sure I will enjoy it!

First off the title is somewhat misleading. She is haunted and there are ghosts but it's more supernatural/magical realism romance than horror. After her mother's death Brynn goes to Wharton for the summer and meets Dominic, a man with his own secrets.
This would of been a four star book but the very ending was a too cutesy.

Brynn needs time away for space to grieve and get ready to return to her job as an English professor. She spends the summer in a tourist town on Lake Superior. While staying at a B&B, she meets some wonderful people that she loves like family. This story is about grief, new beginnings, romance, and strong friendships. It was a slow moving story, but it grabbed my heart. The ending stopped me in my tracks (literally) and filled me with empathy.

Another “okay” story. It was much more about the love story than any haunting... I was in the mood for a scary book and this was not it haha

I went into this book thinking it would be an eerie ghost story, sadly it wasn't exactly that but I am definitely not disappointed. The whole book had such a strange yet beautiful atmosphere with a lot of mystery and a magical summer romance. The plot was beautifully written and I loved the way Alzheimer's was portrayed by one of the characters. I didn't expect the ending to go the way it did, and I absolutely loved it! Such a great book overall❤

I feel like this book is described as a gothic mystery but it‘s actually more of a romance. It wasn‘t terrible but definitely not what I was expecting or wanting.

Companion book to Daughters of the Lake. This creepy, romantic, and also sweet tale set in a small town was a nice mellow read. I'm glad I finally got to this tbr.

And because I cannot resist a bad pun: Eerie book set on Lake Superior (bah dum ching!)

Yesterday my husband and I visited our friends (safely). It was my husband‘s first time ever holding a baby so I had to document it.

I started the tagged book on our friends‘ enclosed porch while naps and shopping were happening. Their dog wanted lots of pets and I happily obliged 🥰

The ending was not at all what I expected when I started reading this book. There were lots of unanswered questions and disjointed timelines but I loved the story. It kept me reading and wondering how things were going to work out. I would have benefitted from a little more detail in parts but I enjoyed the book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
