One of my favorite easy read series right now! I really want the author to focus more on Private I! I think we can sideline the episodic family drama?

Once again a plot convenience irked me. They‘ve lived thru so much & the parents have emphasized certain rules, yet a panic attack & anxiety means you ignore everything & do w/e you like? Get help, take meds? Get yourself together? I also felt the ending wrapped a little too quickly.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Only one book left to read in the series! I enjoyed this one, wasn‘t my favourite but still worth the read. 📖

Another pulse pounding book by Rachel Craine. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The antagonist in this book really takes it to another level. I‘m now moving on to the sixth and final book in the series. It‘s really heartbreaking that Rachel Caine passed away from cancer. I would‘ve loved to see more books in this series. #SeriesLove2023 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

“On the surface, Gwen‘s life is good—two children approaching adulthood, a committed partner, and a harrowing past dead and gone. But that past is attracting the attention of someone invisible…and unstoppable. Trouble‘s just beginning. So is the body count in this backwoods Tennessee town.”

I‘m sad to know that Rachel Caine can‘t write more of this series. But I also think Gwen Proctor‘s story may have been tapped out anyway. How many more Internet trolls and nasty people can come after her and those she loves? This is a great escapist series that moves fast and grabs you by the ba🏒🏒s. If you like a good thriller, give this a go!

Bookzombie @Seekingtardis I have only read the first two, but this is a series to check out. 🙂 3y
Cinfhen What‘s the backstory?? Why is/was she being harassed?? 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen The author passed away from cancer. The character is the former wife of a serial killer who deals with trolls that think she was in on the murders. I wasn‘t sure which she you meant - sorry if my post was vague! 🥸 3y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Seekingtardis I agree with @Bookzombie - this is a good series that helped me out of some slumps! 3y
Cinfhen Got it/ sad she passed away with the series unresolved 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Yes it‘s so sad. I‘m half tempted to see what fan fiction is out there for the series. But … too much to read and too little time! 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

A fine finish to the saga of Gwen Proctor & her battle for peace, safety & redemption. It was also the author‘s final book before her death last year. I would‘ve loved to know what became of Gwen, Sam, Lanny, Connor & Co; where they were headed, how they healed & grew. But this was a fine finish, nonetheless. Couldn‘t give it a full five stars because the ending fell a little flat & sudden (but given the author‘s health, it‘s ok).

CBee Yep, the author‘s note broke my heart 💔 She seemed like such an amazing lady. 3y
MoonWitch94 @CBee Oh I sobbed! She did seem like she was a fine lady. Billy Joel was right: only the good die young :( 3y

I loved this series despite a few campy aspects. I'm sad it's the last one The plot of this one is def derivative, but it's only the last few chapters where that gets annoying. Otherwise a great book and one of my fave things about the series is the dev of the main characters. Maybe I identify w parts of the family story (not the serial killer part) so it appeals to me. Overall I def recommend this book, esp if you have read others in the series.

So good. This is the fifth and the last book in the Stillhouse Lake series. But it‘s as great as all the others. Rachel Caine died in November, before it‘s publication. And I cried when I read her optimistic letter at the end. Heartbreak Bay is a fitting title. I loved this family and I will miss them.

Mrs. Rachel Caine was an amazing storyteller and one that I will sorely miss. I loved reading the nail-biting adventures of the Proctor family and I'm personally at peace with the resolution of this book. I just wish Mrs. Caine could have seen it published before she passed.

Jeannineth 🥲I only read the first two in the series. Sorry to hear of her passing. 3y

My #stack for this weekends #24in48 #readathon I doubt I‘ll get through them all, but I‘ve got a variety of genres to pick from, including Fantasy, Myth Retelling, Crime short stories, plus a few NetGalley titles like the new books by Charlie Jane Anders & Rachel Caine. Who else is ‘thonning this weekend?

jessjess I'm hoping to get good reading time in since it's set to be - 36 C out 😂 3y
Lizpixie @jessjess wow. We‘re looking at 30C plus here with 90% humidity!🥵 3y
jessjess @Lizpixie oh I wish!! We don't see +30 until May or June and definitely not with the humidity! 3y

This is the last book in the series as the author lost her battle with cancer last November. A car is submerged in a pond with 2 little girls in the backseat. The mother has vanished but Gwen and Kezia will search for her. There are 3 POV‘s & we learn a lot more about Kezia. Full of action, suspense and good twists. NetGally

Elizabeth2 @EadieB that‘s amazing! I need to train myself better on audiobooks. I can‘t do even the simplest of household chores with one going because I lose track of the story. I have found that I can do puzzles or color while listening, but I can‘t fold laundry. 🤷‍♀️ 3y
EadieB @Elizabeth2 yes concentrating on the audio books does take training. 3y

This was an “uncorrected proof” from NetGalley - my first book from NG, woot! Yet another rabbit hole to get into 😂 Anyway - this one was good, but let‘s just let these people rest, mmmkay? I mean, how are they not completely bonkers by now? Good 5th installment in the Stillhouse Lake series 👍🏻👍🏻

TEArificbooks Yeah! So glad another one is coming out. She has such pretty covers too 4y
CBee @mdm139 agreed! Comes out in March 2021 I think. 😁 4y
LibrarianRyan Did you hear? The author went to Hospice last week. She‘s been dealing with cancer for a few years now. 4y
See All 12 Comments
CBee @LibrarianRyan oh yes, I know 🙁 I follow her on Twitter and have kept up with her cancer journey. She is one of the bravest people. A hashtag was started on Twitter - #weloverachelcaine ❤️🙁 4y
LibrarianRyan @CBee yeah. Me too. It‘s sad. But I love her spirit. She talks about going to hospice and is all now I have time to write. Wow. That‘s strength. 4y
CBee @LibrarianRyan I know! Like a burden has been lifted and she can rest now, and do what she loves most. Sometimes hospice can add months to your life (former hospice nurse here), so I hope that‘s the case for her. Then again I wish her cancer would just F*** off too 🙁 4y
tracey38 Wow, I didn't know she has cancer and went into hospice. I am glad to hear she has a good spirit and another book coming out. I'm currently reading the fourth one as an ebook during my breaks at work. 4y
CBee @tracey38 she does. It‘s so bad - a rare sarcoma. 🙁 She seems like such a lovely person and she is SUCH a prolific author. 4y
tracey38 @CBee so sad. I've read several of her YA books and then, as I mentioned, am on book 4 of the Stillhouse Lake series. I enjoy her books. I work at a cancer center. Cancer just sucks all around. 4y
CBee @tracey38 I don‘t know how you do the work you do 🙁 4y
tracey38 @CBee it can be tough but when you see patients beat it, it's such a happy time. However, it seems we've had a lot these last few monthswho haven't and that is really hard. 4y
CBee @tracey38 that‘s rough 🙁🙁 4y
