The Leaving
The Leaving | Tara Altebrando
Eleven years ago, six kindergartners went missing without a trace. After all that time, the people left behind moved on, or tried to. Until today. Today five of those kids return. They're sixteen, and they are . . . fine. Scarlett comes home and finds a mom she barely recognizes, and doesn't really recognize the person she's supposed to be, either. But she thinks she remembers Lucas. Lucas remembers Scarlett, too, except they're entirely unable to recall where they've been or what happened to them. Neither of them remember the sixth victim, Max--the only one who hasn't come back. Which leaves Max's sister, Avery, wanting answers. She wants to find her brother--dead or alive--and isn't buying this whole memory-loss story. But as details of the disappearance begin to unfold, no one is prepared for the truth. This unforgettable novel--with its rich characters, high stakes, and plot twists--will leave readers breathless.

This was an amazing read. I was so excited when I finally got a chance to read this book. One thing that stuck out about this book for me, was the importance of remembering. Even if we don‘t want to remember something that happened, it‘s important to remember, and learn from it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So far, so good. What I have so far is that, six children were taken when they were in kindergarten never seen again until 11 years later when only five of them show up as 16 year olds with no memory of the past 11 years. You would say that if you enjoy si-fi/ mystery books then this would be a good pick for you. And I feel like the tone and of this book would be sad and depressing.

MissYaremcio I love the format of your picture! Make sure you include all elements of the assignment in your post (you were missing the pacing)! 4mo

3.5/5 ⭐

While I enjoyed reading this book . It was a little bit of a disappointment.

So much more could of happened with a story like this. They were so many possibilities and potential but I feel like everything was wrapped up too "nicely".

It wasn't bad it kept me reading and I was curious to know what had happened to the six kids. It was still interesting.

This was an okay story. It had an interesting premise, but nothing much really happened. Only two of the missing kids were written about, the other three popped up randomly. Max, the kid that doesn‘t return, his faith just seems to be a last minute thing and a boring way of explaining what happened to him. Could have been so much better.

This is my current read also from my #BookOutlet haul; It is about 6 kindergarteners that went missing 11 years ago without a trace. Then, 5 come back, without any recollection of what happened to them or where they were, or even any memory of the still missing 6th kid, Max. Luckily for him, Max‘s younger sister refuses to believe their memory loss story, and goes digging for the truth, hoping to find Max: dead or alive. #tbr #mystery

Sooo I live in the fingerlakes (aka wine country) and there‘s always something new coming in town. Recently a new brewery that also offers wine came in to Geneva,NY. Webe Brewing is seriously picturesque, and in the corner is this beautiful sitting area with an electric fireplace. My first thought was “I could drink and read my book here”.😂📖🍻

This book was amazing! Imagine disappearing when you‘re 5, only to return home 11 years later, remembering nothing! It is categorized as YA, but I wouldn‘t have guessed that...great writing and I plan to get her other book!

2/5. this book took me forever to read (meaning five days). i have never been a fan of love triangles. i love mysteries, but i hate young adult ones- the characters are always so concerned about falling in love rather than finding out where, in this case, a character‘s missing brother has been for eleven years. i was disappointed also by the writing style, which i thought was unnecessary. it was an okay book, but by all means, not a masterpiece.

I guess YA novels just aren't for me anymore, unfortunately. This one wasn't bad but it didn't give me the excitement & suspense I was hoping for. The ending was also very quick with little build up.

The premise had me greedily reading every second I could, but it was difficult to suspend my disbelief for some of the explanations. A lot was left unanswered and scenes/plot points seemed to be added just to add more drama. I also HATED the style of Scarlett's chapters where words are formatted in a way that reflect their meaning (i.e. The word "looping" in a circle). Overall, an interesting premise, but the execution was lacking.

Kaylamburson Actually, after lots of ranting in my Goodreads review (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2084692972), I realize that I hated so much more about this book than I initially thought. More between a pan and a so-so than a pick. 3y

Six kids go missing and eleven years later, five return with no idea of where they've been. While that is enough for a compelling read, Altebrando also has thoughtful things to say about how our memories shape who we are.

RaimeyGallant Are there supernatural elements in this one? 3y

So-so because the concept was interesting but there wasn't enough mystery or suspense. The whole story just unraveled quickly and then boom it was done and none of it felt very earth shattering, there was just no sense of urgency. Also the characters were two dimensional at best. Oh and I disliked the writing format. Too choppy. Eh, after reviewing all that I'm starting to lean toward 'pan'!
