Falling in Love Montage
Falling in Love Montage | Ciara Smyth
Two girls embark on a summer of montage-worthy dates (with a few strings attached) in this hilarious and heartfelt lesbian rom-com that's perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Jenny Han. Seventeen-year-old cynic Saoirse Clarke isn't looking for a relationship. But when she meets mischievous Ruby, that rule goes right out the window. Sort of. Because Ruby has a loophole in mind: a summer of all the best clich movie montage dates, with a definite ending come fall--no broken hearts, no messy breakup. It would be the perfect plan, if they weren't forgetting one thing about the Falling in Love Montage: when it's over, the characters have fallen in love...for real. Ciara Smyth's debut is a delightful, multilayered YA rom-com that will make you laugh, cry, and absolutely fall in love. --Misa Sugiura, award-winning author of It's Not Like It's a Secret and This Time Will Be Different

After reading Not My Problem I really, really wanted to read Ciara Smyth's other book. And even though I prefer NMP (which shows that Smyth has now more writing experience), I totally loved this one as well. Again, I wanted to read and read and read. I loved watching Saoirse grow and learning about her situation. The more the story progress, the prouder I grew of her. Now I'm waiting for the next novel by Ciara Smyth.

I don‘t believe in love at first sight or soul mates or any of that guff you see in the movies. You know, where you meet someone in an impossibly coincidental way and you lock eyes and true, everlasting love ensues.

The Falling in Love Montage is a complex story about family, forgiveness, and moving on. Saoirse felt so relatable, the way she can push people away and when they leave it feels like you were right all along, the way she can hurt people with her words. And you can instantly feel for her.

This was a bit more intense and elaborate than I expected, but it was still pretty wonderful. I wanted kinda a beach rom-com, but this went above and beyond, it had depth, it had drama, it had lovable characters who developed very nicely. Good suggestion for pride month!

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I really liked this too! I agree the marketing makes it out to be a lighter read than it actually is. 2y

An outstanding contemporary #YA #audiobook about a lesbian teen, Saoirse. She meets Ruby, a girl staying in her Irish town and rom com aficionado Ruby convinces Saoirse to embark on a tour of rom com tropes. Saoirse is determined to keep the relationship not serious. Why? A recent BFF-turned-girlfriend break-up, a resulting friend breakup, and, most of all, her mom living in a care home because of early onset dementia that Saoirse might inherit.

Meh. I felt like I didn‘t understand the characters or connect with them. The sex flirting at the beginning was weird figuring they just met like two seconds ago, & the fact that they stopped doing that after they got to know each other felt weird. Character development maybe? Saoirse‘s mom has genetic early dementia & She knows that she‘ll have it too. So, when she meets Ruby she decides for one summer she‘ll do all the cliche rom-com things. 3⭐️

This was exactly the joyful sapphic vibe I needed to start 2021 right. All the fuzzy feels. I was delighted to find that's there's a heavy sprinkling of family-relations and how to navigate those which were seamlessly woven into the main plot of Saoirse and Ruby's falling in love-montage. Adored it.

Fiction. This story could quite easily happen in real life. The two main characters are humans and live just like anyone else. There love story can happen any day and the people seem like you could see them on a everyday street. The setting is a place with shops and homes near a beach lots of places like that around the world. They have everyday cloths and cars nothing that we don't have nowadays it references real movies a lot things we could see.

A ya queer Romance about two girls who want to have fun without the emotional baggage that goes with being in a relationship. Obviously that‘s not as easy as it sounds.

This is the time I ended up with for #24B4Monday. I'm about 200 pages into Midnight Sun (it's a bit of a slog for me) and 30% into the tagged book. Not sure if I'll continue with the former.

I got up early(ish) this morning, and I'm all ready to go to PT so I'm squeezing in some reading before I have to leave. This book is cute so far. Didn't know it takes place in Ireland until I started reading it.

Looks like Litsy ate my review. This book was good, but I wasn't invested in the romance and Saoirse's abusive, neglectful father really overshadowed the story.
